Given you 2 round the zombie dragon, this is a non-issue. you'd spend longer powering up a lavaman for exp.

Ryu in the Trygon form (Flame+Frost+Thunder) should be able to take the souped-up Lava Men out in one Frost Breath, as there's no way to resist breath attacks in this game.

I will NOT be pursuing the lavaman experience trick. An icicle does at most 50 damage when the foe is fully charged, and it takes well over 10k frames to kill the beast. Not worth it

btw, someone said before that giving a claymore to beyd transforms the weapon into a flare sword. Outside the volcano, is it worth getting it?
No, it's weaker than the Claymore. Then again, if what weapon Ryu has for the Lighthouse to the Volcano doesn't matter, then get it since you'll just get the Barbarossa in Junk Town after.

He currently buys a Flare Sword in Urkan Tapa to help defeat the Dragon Zombie and Huge Slug more quickly later on.
If you get rid of the Claymore altogether, then Scylla, Charybdis and Gaist will absorb all damage you do to them, and Mikba will also take slightly less. If you can find a way to beat S/C with the Flare Sword (I guess you could just equip the Broad Sword, but the combo will take slightly longer), then you could try buying an AshurasSword in Syn City, but you would have to get it before Rei goes in and wrecks the place. It might just be faster to buy the Flare Sword in Urkan Tapa, but the AshurasSword is both slightly stronger and a lot less heavy than the Claymore, so it might save some extra time here and there before you leave on the Black Ship.

balio and sunder are out. I was able to kill them in three rounds (minus garr's coutner attack). Against emitai, my luck made me save about 800 frames, which I didn't lose by getting the other widsom fruit
I do believe that item dropping is based on actions taken during the battle. I just finished fighting Pooch. After waiting only for a few frames, I was able to obtain a vitamin, and I didn't obtain anything when I fought a few frames before
at least 7 hours; I already trimmed 351 seconds from the first full run. Depending on how things go, I might be able to trim another 5-10 minutes, especially if I don't need Meryleep
Yes against bosses. It can be useful on some bosses but if you can already beat them faster without it then maybe you should just stick with the current strategies, unless if you wanna just show off with it. It can be useful on the Elder if you can get EX turns on him.
No need to get meryleep. Mi fights, using the same strategies as for the complete run, were less than 1k frames longer. PLus, I could still get an EX turn against myria
