(Sorry for the delayed reply.) Progress? I got up to 5-MM, but I lost any motivation to continue. As such, I haven't actually done anything in several months. I really should start working on it again... I dread some of the levels coming up, though.

Come on, you are one world from being done. :) That is, if you don't plan to do the plus world and expert levels.

(Thanks.) I decided to work on this, and completed world 5. About 15 seconds were saved over my previous run (58 seconds over the cancelled run, 1:30 over the currently published run). I'm not at all certain that 5-MM is optimal, but I'm moving on. Only world 6 is left, but I don't have much hope about improving most of the levels. About the plus and expert levels, I'm leaving them to a 100% run. The plus levels are too much of a hassle, and the expert levels require 100% on everything else to access.

Any updates at this point? You're really close to finishing off the game, and I've really been anticipating this improvement for a long time.

Please keep on working on this. You're nearly done, and the 45 minute run could seriously do with an update. I saw the 5 worlds you did, and I haven't come across anywhere that could be better (I used to practice speedrunning this game, the old run missed a few shortcuts I found myself). q:

just noticed this thread… I’m not sure if they’re comparable at all, but Prenz is crazy on this game and his scores are here http://www.cyberscore.me.uk/game/22 I know this game has quite the version differences… earliest US release being the best as far as abusable glitches go, I believe

Now besides the any% of this game, I remember that there was a 100% version but sadly the 100% run of the game was repetitive and cancelled as a result of that. To try and avoid that, hows about for Mario vs Donkey Kong an any% tas and the PLUS mode tas? (so use a save game with 100%, I can provide one just PM me). Since 100%ing is just "demonstrating the same tricks".

It doesn't fully work like that. You also need a movie file that would generate said save game. If the 100% TAS was submitted and rejected that TAS can be used to generate a save game. It would then be better to use the TAS to generate the save game which you base your TAS on as well.

Spikestuff, Your submission does NOT need to play to unlock Plus mode. It just needs a movie file that does to prove that you got to a legitimate state.

Note that often, the game will sync with any old 100% save (you can test by downloading a few 100% saves of the game and seeing if they all work). In that case, just get anyone who likes the game to do a 100% and record it for you – it doesn't have to be optimised – and use it as the verification movie, hexing the TAS to start from the resulting save.

I need help (same with exile). I need some ram for this game for Mario's movement as we need the speed.

X Speed: 03003524 signed 2byte Y Speed: 03003526 signed 2byte I am not sure about calling the Y Speed for Speed. It has some really odd behavior, the value you set Y to in cheats will "launch" Mario to that height, then he will fall down again before it "launches" him to that height again... it will repeat infinitely, if you exit the level boundaries, the game crashes. The X Speed is also a tad odd, as the acceleration speed is always -8, even when you are going right... which is "positive" speed. Explore their behavior in RAM Watch to fully understand what I mean. Apply cheats if necessary (just remember to turn them off before you start TASing). PS: It took me less than 15 minutes to find these, so it's quite quick if you know what to look for, let me know if you want me to guide you through the process.

The speed value is strange. Spamming jump with the low ceiling in 1-3 for instance is faster than running. Spamming jump shows 259-0-259 speed. While running is 272 every frame. But at the end of the platform spamming jump every 2 frames is 14 frames faster than running alone.

Triple jump doesn't work. But I wanted to try it...

Then there are something more at work than just this, since I don't know the game I cannot really explain it, I was just bored and saw the wish for speed values, so I searched them out.

the low ceiling in 1-3.2 has a similar effect. 1-2 frames are gained each time your head hits a ceiling. It is still a helpful value. Allows exact same backflips without guessing. I'm working on 1-4 right now. Jumping after picking up a key saves 2 frames.

Back from the dead? Starting over. I was only at 1-4 or so. When you fall onto the ground and need to change direction, jumping is 6 frames faster than turning around normally. Picking up a key and needing to turn around, jumping saves 2 frames. I am not sure yet how clipping through the edge of a ledge works. So far I have only done it while holding the key.
