About

This one was planned before Metal Slug X,but I choose a wrong route,so I stopped this one at first. This is the longest Metal Slug because of the universe autoscoller scene. And the biggest difference between X and 3 is the smoke cannot do damage.
If you want to see another route's run.Watch this. [dead link removed] It is a run before Mission 4 that choose the main route

About Missions

Mission 1

Go up and avoid lags.Using 2 Armors to fight with boss

Mission 2

Get a C,and using zombies' blood 5 to kill the aliens.

Mission 3

Select a shorter route and using L and H fight with boss.

Mission 4

Getting fat to manipulate enemies' appearence, and Marco must wait for Fio to manipulate mosqito's movement. So there is no influence.Manipulate luck in the boss battle, get L in the left.

Mission 5

Heave luck manipulation.Getting useful bombs. Alien brain battle getting 3 L. Getting an S before the 3rd door. Last boss it can manipulate luck to get bombs. But if do that,I must stop attack to manipulate it appaar. Cannon smoke of Mehicle Slug cannot do damage to the boss.So I get out of Mehicle at first.

Summary

All of the items is determined before the enemie's appearence, and it is according to the frame and HP. So I have worked on this for a long time.

Thanks

mtvf1's lua script that can help me find the random memory address. Sonikkustar's route suggestion.
Have fun now.

Nach: Getting this to sync was a pain in the neck, but it works. Nice run of the craziest game in the series. Good response, accepting as first run for this game.
sgrunt: Well, since this is syncing for me, and no one else seems to be up to the task...

Voted yes. I found your take on the autoscroller spaceship part very entertaining, though I can see other people not finding it as interesting as I did. I also loved how you finished off the end boss, I never thought melee cancelling would outdamage both flameshot AND shotgun. I suggest frame 47453 as a screenshot. :D Edit: The run didn't sync all the way, but I saw enough that I thought I was able to vote. It desynched about 15 seconds before movie end.

I can't get it at all syncing past the second (Zombie) stage.

Hooray for the best part of the series finally being TASed. x2poet, you are a TASing machine, thank you! Will vote after watching an encode, but your previous runs did not disappoint at all.

If you're having trouble getting FBA to accept your archive, or sync, make sure you ROM images match:

The first screenshot is the best - the most dreadful ;)
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Is it so hard to sync? I haven't experienced desync yet. At least who I send the file to all sync to the end.

Holy gigantic amount of anus. This run....I mean this run....HOLY CRAP! I loved everything about this movie. The execution, the planning, the carnage, the speed, and most of all....the hard work you have done to this run. The final mission has to be my favorite part out of all the whole run. Just slamming the UFOs & barriers with manipulated missles was so awesome to see. Forget what I said about Metal Slug X. THIS needs the star. Extreme Yes Vote with sugar and toilet paper. Very Very Very Very VERY nice job x2poet.

There seems to be periods during the spaceship phase where there are no enemies, is the entire spaceship phase a fixed duration? If so there is no need to kill the large asteroids quickly. Could you then sacrifice a spaceship slug earlier and farm the midboss for 99 bombs for one player?

Can you see one alien didn't drop the bomb? After that one,it would be 1 bomb from 2 alien. If you manipulate one drop, another cannot drop. So 200+ frames getting 10 bombs would be slower than 4 Frames 60 damage by knife cutting or 20 damage by pistal. 1 capsule's missile can do 400 damage.it 4 times to 1 grerade. Getting 99 bombs would be less useful than 25 missiles. An floating bombs cannot exist for long time.5 in the screen is the max.So it cannot wait for so many bombs and give up the capsule. Only the first 2 big UFO can drop bombs. If getting 99 bombs.about 50+ bombs would be used for killing the 3rd big UFO and the giant UFO.How many bombs and guns after this? Using the gun to kill large asteroids would take a lot of lags, and kill it out of the screen would be better than using L and H If give up the capsule,it can get different items from the big stone, just like S. But S can only add 10.The others are nearly the same. So using the Capsule Slug to the end is the best.

Oh,I just encoded myself and get desync. I hate FBA's desync. The fbm can play syncing to the end without recording AVI. So,I'm afraid that encoders must find some savestates before the desync you experienced.

I managed to get it to sync so I have a watchable encode, but it's not really up to the standards of the site so don't go getting mad me for it. :D Edit: http://www.gamefront.com/files/20397627/mslug3_TAS_by_x2poet.avi Edit 3: Link updated.

Since some have complained that site is too slow, here's a torrent: http://tracker.tasvideos.org/mslug3_TAS_by_x2poet_fixed.avi.torrent Edit: Replacing torrent with the new file available from the post above, smaller and frame rate is now correct.

It downloaded @1.3mb/s for me ... Anyways, this run truly shines during the last mission : The fight with "the fake" Saddam Hussein, the space side-scrolling part, the last boss. It was so intense. I didn't like the part at the beginning of the last mission though (the Jet/Helicopter part), You killed everything before it even shows up and I found it boring (IMO). Easy YES vote !!

An excellent TAS, very entertaining, good stuff in the autoscroller in the spaceship and nice job keeping the player scores close for the end. Big yes vote, eagerly waiting for more if you plan for any.

If shows more, there would be more lags. And there is no space to show any tricks. Thanks for the downloadable encode.

By more, I think he meant he would like to see you TAS other games in the series: 2, 4, 5, 6, and so on.

The torrent desyncs. Anyway, voting yes because of awesomeness. Pity about those auto scrollers, but it's no big deal.

That's one way of looking at it. Another way of looking at it is that it's an awesome game, which was later remixed into an even more awesome but different game.

2? Is X the optimized one to 2? Is 2 acceptable? And 6 must wait for MAME-rr.

X is a remixed version of 2. X remixed some of the music, and redid a lot of the artwork. The maps were altered a little bit in a few places. The enemy placement in X is very different from 2. They even moved some bosses around and brought in a boss from MS1. X also added on some new weapons and changed weapon placement around also.

Sure, it's a different game. They may have a bunch of similarities, but they're not the same game. You'll need to rethink your weapon management strategy for effectively playing 2. For those that didn't see it above, there's an improved torrent available: http://tracker.tasvideos.org/mslug3_TAS_by_x2poet_fixed.avi.torrent
