I didn't find this much more entertaining than the SDA run. I guess playing a 3d game on an emulator without proper support is why it's so unoptimized. The shooting wasn't too bad, but the driving/route was terrible.

I loved the way he used the dodo in "Bait" and "Espresso-2-Go". Impressive flying.

Could you list them, please? By the way, a moderator should split this topic.

As much as I enjoyed watching the TAS, it's clear how unoptimized the run is. The author (or authors, I don't even know) didn't seem to be very familiar with the game as he did optional missions, but skipped phone missions for some arbitrary reason. Still, it's a nice appetizer for how mindblowing an optimized TAS will be.

I couldn't get this game to sync a while back when i tried to TAS it. I wonder how he did it. The reason for some of the unoptimized parts might be if it has a lot of desyncs, which makes it hard to TAS (he also waited all movies... probably intentionally, but i think they can be skipped, which would make it much faster). I've seen several other japanese PS2 tases on youtube too, so maybe we should have a subforum for PS2 games soon, if it's possible to make TASes for PS2. Or do japanese people have some magical powers that prevent desyncs..

Some things that needs to be noted... First: He is doing an "all story missions" run Some mistakes just in the first minutes: • He takes a doubtful path to the safe house • He drives the wrong way around after leaving the safe house to grab his first mission (he has to turn the car around) • He picks up the baseball bat for the second mission, totally unnecessary • He does not get out of the car when picking up Misty from her apartment (makes her run instead of walking slowly) • He has the bat equipped when he doesn't need it • He doesn't run at all times There's even more but I haven't watched this video for a few days and I am not planning on seeing it again.

I checked a couple of video on Nicovideo but couldn't learn how they made this GTA3 TAS. I'm pretty sure they used Hourglass. Are we sure this is the PS2 version rather than the Windows version? They might have used Hourglass on a PS2 emulator.

AFAIR the windows version didn't have lock-on / aiming rectangles as seen in one mission. The resolution might be a hint; if I was playing the windows version I'd turn it way up. I couldn't find anything else that would indicate the PS2-version though, but my knowledge of the game is limited to a few playthroughs years ago.

It has to be the pc version. If you compare the loading times with this PS2 let's play, you see that the TAS loads way faster. And afaik you can use the lock on function on pc as soon as you use a controller as input. So i guess its hourglass;-)

If you look at his channel, he has other TASes, like this Biohazard 4 (Resident Evil 4) TAS where he specifically writes that he used pcsx2-rr, so he probably used that in GTA3 too. I also thought hourglass could only run simple games...

It's the PS2 version if you know where to look and the texture differences between the PS2 and PC version, you will see it's the PS2 version. The loading times could be an emulation glitch or a hack, could also be a difference between game versions. The runner used a Japanese version of the game while the let's play doesn't.

I'm pretty sure is the Japanese PS2 version. Which begs the question, HOW!? I put this on googlecode some years ago. But it proved to have very poor syncability (none). Also it was a very dated version of pcsx2 so it became increasingly pointless to develop it. Mainly though, it didn't run GTA 3 or Vice City at all :( Thus I had little enthusiasm. Bottom line, I really really want to TAS this game and I would love to see this guy's TAS submitted and published at TASVideos. I tried contacting him but got no reply :(
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

Maybe he used sparse savestates and recorded to AVI and edited it all.

Could be that, that's how the first TAS of Super Mario Sunshine was made.

This is a really bad TAS of the game. I wouldn't want to see it published here.

Link to video I was considering YouTube dumping this post but then I realized it's not nico. Um. Yea, so one exists... 3 years ago, doesn't skip stuff but good overall.

Ehhh, not really good, even for its time. Aside from obviously not skipping cutscenes, driving/paths look really unoptimized, it doesn't manipulate traffic, never sprints on foot for some reason, does optional missions, and probably a host of other things I'm not even noticing...

It's the same TAS as the one linked in the first post...
