Hello! This is my first post on this forum. I have read the rules of the forum, as well as the FAQ, and I look forward to interacting with you all! That said, I present a work-in-progress TAS that I've been making since yesterday. This is a TAS for the 1991 Game Boy action game, Fortified Zone. So far, this run includes the first two stages (the game has four stages total.) In the game, you take control of two commandos, one male (Masato Kanzaki) and one female (Mizuki Makimura,) who are tasked with destroying an enemy base somewhere. You can swap between them at any time, and both have their own respective strengths (Masato can have 5 shots onscreen and use special weapons, but is slow; Mizuki is fast and can jump, but can only have 2 shots onscreen and can't use special weapons.) Their mission thus far is made far shorter through, among other things, abuse of the invincibility time granted by pausing and unpausing the game to dodge things in situations you normally can't, as well as clipping errors letting you pass through perpendicular walls separating hallways. It was recorded on VisualBoyAdvance 1.7.2 re-recording v19.3. It currently stands at 7916 frames (00:02:12) with 136 rerecords. Comments, criticism, and suggestions are welcome! Given that this my first TAS, and it's a work-in-progress, it may be a little rough around the edges, so I'd love to hear any suggestions on improving the time in these stages. Anything to make sure it's optimized! EDIT: TAS updated. Same link as above. It now goes up to Stage 3! 20575 frames (00:05:43) with 485 rerecords. In this edition, Mizuki destroys a lock with flatulence, grenades demonstrate their ability to punch through indestructible walls, and a dragon gets more than it bargained for. Did I mention that this is the point where the game stops trying to make sense?

I watched the whole thing, and so far it looks very good for a first time TAS. One problem is I never played the game, so I can't comment on any aspects of playing the game, strategy, etc... Keep going, this TAS so far kept me interested and I would like to see more :)

Hi, The Green Herring, and welcome to TASvideos! I watched your WIP, and it wasn't bad. Your description helped me spot a a couple of the glitches, which were interesting. Overall it looked decent, but I'm sure you would benefit from doing another run after this one is finished so that you have a template to work from and to work frame by frame to optimize. Speaking of which, did you make this using slowdown or frame by frame? If not, the next one should be, it always helps out. I think this is a good choice of game to work with for a beginner, since it's going to be short and sweet. I think having the walking through the wall glitch is the make or break for this game. It's not interesting enough to make a 10 minute movie, but a 5 minute would be definitely worth the time. Post another WIP, or a finished movie, and I'll be happy to take another look.

Thanks for the comments! Today, I'm going to work on Stage 3 more. I should be posting the next version of the WIP here very soon. Unfortunately, you can't use the corner clipping glitch on Stage 3 in a way that saves time, and you can't use it at all on Stage 4. This is because it only works on walls that are one unit wide vertically, and most of the perpendicular ones in Stage 3 (and all of them on Stage 4) are two units wide. So far, however, I managed to save time on Stage 3 anyway by exploiting the grenades' ability to punch through walls. You'll see how I do that not too long after the stage starts. In the first two stages, I didn't use slowdown, but I did use frame-by-frame for things requiring precision (the corner clipping stuff) and when I wanted to pound out shots with Masato as quickly as possible without resorting to autofire. If you're wondering about some of the other things: * I walk in a strange path at the first jeep battle in Stage 2 to make it shoot early and allow me to walk up to and blast it easily. * I wait a moment in the room with the locked door and those pistol guys so that the third pistol guy walks into my bullet. Otherwise, he'd stop to shoot at me and I'd miss (obviously undesirable.) Stay tuned for further updates! EDIT: TAS updated! See first post.

I did a WIP, and finished the 1st stage in just 40 seconds. Using a glitch that allows me to go through walls, skips the most of the stage. Link to video
