Man... I love Hip Hop. Been listening to it since I was a Baby Fist. I listen almost daily to artists like Busta Rhymes, Kanye and Jay's new fine album, Dipset! Dre, DMX, Method Man, Royce Da 5'9, cypher from Royce, Joe Budden, Eminem and Busta. I would love to know who else out there like Hip Hop and Rap. Haters begone! Feel free to discuss who is/was the greatest Hip Hop and Rap artist of them all. Throughout most of my life, I have had little to no respect for the genre of rap and hip-hop. I've hated most of it. However, about six months ago, one of my friends from Ukraine, who is an enormous rap fan, started linking me to an incredible number of different songs. While I disliked most of it, to my surprise, I did find songs and artists that I really enjoyed. Having grown up in the 80's MC Hammer's U Can't Thouch This has special nostalgic value. (Ok, the song was released in January 1990. Still feels very 80's nevertheless.) On the other hand, listening it today, it sounds quite hammy (no pun intended). Many dance songs of that era have the same effect (but aren't rap/hiphop per se). Some songs by Eminem are cool too.

I love hip hop as an idea... I'm not a huge fan of a lot of it in practice, especially what goes on the radio. Sampling, street art is great. Selling cars and hating on women, homosexuality really turns me off. I'm mostly in it for the beats but once in a while a rapper will blow my mind (for example, the link AngerFist shared at the beginning, Busta totally tore it down. Much respect.) I like extremely few rap songs. Weak riffs, monotone sounds. The song AngerFist posted is a good example of this. Heh, "Army of the Pharaohs" is one of the main bands my hip-hop loving friend linked me to to get an appreciation for the genre. The problem with them and that particular song is that while I like half the MCs, I can't stand the other half. I am a fan of Vinnie Paz, though.
