Submission Text Full Submission Page

Some times, things can be improved by more than 15 seconds.

And that's excatly what i did: Improve my previous submission by more than 15 seconds.
Mario is trying to save Yoshi and world history, for Bowser has a time machine, and he stole relics from the past and captured Yoshi!
Here's the basic info:
  • Used FCEUX 2.1.5
  • Goal: beat game as fast as possible.
  • BIOS: USA Version of Mario's Time Machine
  • It took me 2 hours to make this vid.
Enjoy. -YoungJ1997lol

DarkKobold: Judging

YoungJ1997lol: I'm cancelling because DarkKobold said,
"I don't see this movie as publishable. There are essentially only 3 layouts for the turtles in the pipes, making the run extremely redundant. Additionally, only 2 hours spent on a movie is probably still too short ."

YoungJ1997lol: I uncancelled because of the new judging rule.

adelikat: Claimed for judging

adelikat: I must demand a bit more work in order to be published. I've detailed my comments here. Rejecting this movie, I hope you take the time to improve this movie.

This is definitely an improvement over your previous run. However, I don't see this movie as publishable. There are essentially only 3 layouts for the turtles in the pipes, making the run extremely redundant. Additionally, only 2 hours spent on a movie is probably still too short You are getting better.

At least the NES version tries to look like a Mario game and kept the platforming element. The SNES version doesn't have any legit platforming other than the ability to jump back onto the ground you were standing on and had a surfing game with slightly catch music. IMO the NES version looks more entertaining than the SNES version, but I think it's still leaning towards bad game choice. I'll vote after watching. I'm going to give this a no vote now that I've watched it. The game is borderline poor game choice IMO, I think you may be able to manipulate the koopa patterns better so that you get the fastest pattern, and even on the patterns that weren't the fastest ones you didn't do much to keep the viewer entertained.

I think this speedrun is better. This honestly isn't so bad of a game choice IMO. But it isn't optimized enough. I honestly feel that this game deserves a better reputation than what it has so that submissions of this game could be more optimized. No

Sure, why not. Not an official encode, and as such, it's not optimised. I hope you have a fast connection. I have to agree, though. This isn't too interesting, it gets repetitive soon. I'm not judging if this is optimised enough or not, but it definitely looks like a bad game choice to me. Not voting since it's gruefood'd already, but I would have voted no.

Ok, now that game choice isn't the issue. Anybody got an opinion on its technical quality?

The technical value seems doubtful if you actually took 2 hours only.

Tanks Worked like a charm ! Well, for a 2h movie, i don't see any major mistakes. Maybe a possible improvement might come from a better turtle manipulation but right now, it fits as a vault publication... Yes under the new rules

Thanks for the encode, antd! Wow, this game is bad. I should have known Nintendo didn't make it. As for the run, it looks pretty good. Sometimes, you run off of slopes instead of jumping off of them though; does that waste any time? If the poll asked me if the run was entertaining, I would say No, but since it wants to know if it should be published, then sure, as long as it's not too unoptimized.

Honestly, I think this is definitely vault-worthy, but as for Publication....I don't think it'll make it.

I don't know. Haven't calculated the speed.

The main thing I noticed is that the last few screens look way more optimized than the first, showing you improved your strategy as you went along. For instance, on the first screen you hit the top koopa (the only one that matters in terms of speed) far to the left of the platform, causing mario to have to run all the way to the left to pick up the item then run back. Later you wait until he is at the edge; a more refined strategy. As a test I did a short WIP of the first screen. I think I could squeeze out some more frames but this gets into the pipe 59 frames faster than this submission. I think this could use a bit more optimization. I'm not demanding perfection, but I do at least want there to not be a noticeable (to an average user) improvement in quality as the run progresses. I think the first levels need to be redone with the strategies used in the final levels.
