Others may disagree, but I think this should be done like that Kirby's Dream Course TAS: Highest score in the Pokemon Report is priority 1, Time is priority 2. You can do many tricks to make you go faster through levels (see SDA run), but getting perfect pictures on every pokemon seems like it just has to happen.

There's already a thread for Pokemon Snap here which has plenty of discussion on what kind of run should be made.

Calm down... if you want to know it that much, I wonder why you didn't try yourself... No, Pokemon Snap doesn't emulate properly with Mupen64.

That glowing light on your keyboard right now is probably the caps lock. You don't need to worry about turning it off though. I'm pretty sure it's an LED and those things last a really long time.

So as I understand it, the big barrier to making a Pokemon Snap run is that the Pokemon Signs (or whatever they're called) don't register properly. Would it be possible to get around this with Lua scripting (writing directly to the RAM)? I realize that would technically be against the site rules, but I think they can be bent just this once, plus it would be well worth it. Since the pokemon signs don't add to your score, it wouldn't appreciably affect gameplay. Just a thought. Edit: This is in response to BrainStormer's post below, but I'd rather not derail the thread, so I think it's more appropriate here: http://bash.org/?835030

Actually, I used shift for all of these...You're seeing stuff man... EDIT: This is in response to bobo's edit above: It's not as if I'm not aware of the caps lock key feature, but using it or not is a choice; posting smart-*** comments on people's personal choice of using it or not trying to seem smart by taking their thoughts a step further when they clearly have no idea on what grounds they're standing on to go into that further step because everything they just said in that step further is an assumption and nothing else is what I was responding to...and am responding to......................................................................................................................................................................................................................

I'm giving this topic a mini-bump because no one has responded to my previous post and I have a new question. Could we emulate the Wii Virtual Console version of the game?

As long as it uses a gc controller, yes. edit: looks like it does, so there should be no issues. My laptop (2.2 ghz 3 core phenom II cpu) is getting 10 fps on the title screen though. As long as you can deal with that though, it'll work fine. Make sure you use the more-save-fixes branch of dolphin though, as it fixes apparently every last desync issue with gc controller recording. Links to that can be found in the dolphin thread (do not use the versions found on the official site).

Our Wii emulation is so much better than our N64 emulation, that emulating a Wii to run a N64 emulator is better than running the native N64 emulator. That's sad... Now, I tried running it here. On my laptop (a 2.3ghz i5-2410M with a GeForce 540M) it run really fine: 30 fps, though it seems this is the target fps for the game. (I did use one of these optimized builds though) However, I had no audio (I'm using HLE, maybe LLE solves this issue. However, I only have the necessary files from my wii on my desktop) and when I got ingame I couldn't move the camera. No graphic issues as far I could notice though.

The Ocarina of Time / Master's Quest bonus disc that came with Wind Waker contains a pretty good N64 emulator that has been used by pirates to port N64 games to the GameCube. I don't think a run on such a hack would be accepted, but maybe it could be used for a test run if nothing else works?

HLE will cause desyncs, edit: and audio doesn't work with LLE either.
it run really fine: 30 fps
You need to disable dual core and idle skipping while tasing. You will not get 30 fps. LLE audo is also obviously a lot slower. Also, the camera works just fine for me.

Looks like this game is broke in dolphin too. You cannot mark any photos to show to prof oak.

Maybe someone can do a test run and play it on an actual console.

Forget the emulator, just use droid64? That would be kind of interesting to see. And it might be possible to do it in dolphin, then manually add the buttons to select pictures to show to oak, and then just convert the .dtm to .m64 to playback with droid64. Someone do it.

Are you referring to the fact that we now have N64 console verification? If so, I think that's a great idea.

I thought dual core works now.

uh, kind of. It doesn't break save states like it used to, and it doesn't seem to cause desyncs (though i haven't tested that extensively), but at least some times it causes problems while dumping video. Recording with dual core on and then playing back with it off usually works fine, but not always. At this point i'd still leave it off, just to be safe, especially since it doesn't really make much difference in most cases (i've only seen ~2 fps gain from it in some games). If you find a game where the performance difference is really significant, and you're not just frame by framing everything anyway, you may want to give it a shot, but i wouldn't expect it to work 100% perfectly. Idle skipping is the one that really makes a big difference, and that definitely needs to be off. Also, i tried using the zelda emulator, and it boots up, but it doesn't work. It skips past the pidgies without forcing you to take a picture of them (like what happens on the vc version without...ignore format changes? or one of the graphics hacks, i forget which, which then prevents you from moving the camera, etc. Also, there was still no sound, marking pictures was still broken, and the picture previews shown at the end are all black.

It seems this game runs just fine in dolphin when using its software renderer. Of course dolphin's software renderer is absurdly slow (i get 1-4 fps in this game), but hey, if anyone really wants to tas this game, it should be possible!

Software renderer? good luck to whoever does this.

I really want to see what the best scores possible are, even if the game itself is a bit boring. :)

Has anyone tried running this in BizHawk? I would do it myself but... meh. Edit: I lied. I just did it myself. Couldn't use the analog stick, pictures were black and couldn't submit them to Oak. Oh well.

I haven't played that game in quite a while, but isn't the game playing with the D-pad? Well either way even if it does it won't really help the black pictures
