Does the value update in real time with Dolphin? How exactly does MHS not work with Dolphin? Can someone find the speed values as well as the characters facing angle values in Cheat Engine or MHS if possible? I tried with MHS, but can't find any of the addresses. I would try with Cheat Engine, but I don't know how it works. According to this thread, it's apparently possible. When I open Dolphin in debug mode, it's extremely slow, and I have no idea how it works. Also, can I not find the addresses in MHS because I only searched for float type values? I'm not very familiar with finding memory addresses, so I don't know if that would make a difference.

So, while trying to be entertaining in Iron Gate during the elevator descension, I accidentally found a method that skips it entirely without the need for the Jet Engine (hover boot things)...which is a huge time saver since there's 2 elevators that take quite a bit of time in IG. Mapler deserves credit too because I wouldn't have known about the trick used if it weren't for one of his theories on skipping the elevator. Edit: On our dtm from last March, we got to the checkpoint after the elevator at 45:77. On this new dtm using the skip mentioned above, we're getting 24:19 at the moment and it's still fairly improvable. If we're able to pull it off again with the second elevator (99% sure we will), I assume this trick will save roughly 43.5 - 44 seconds in Iron Gate.

To explain the sequence of events: Last time we started this, I figured out you could walk on the slopes of the elevator areas. This allowed a number of neat momentum tricks, including being able to build large amounts of backwards or forwards speed. Many failed ideas later, I concluded that you would need to be able to land on the side walls briefly in order to reach the small ledge in front of the door. In a week or two of testing, I failed to accomplish this, and gave up. In 20 minutes of dicking around, SP did just this. And reached the door. The only thing that makes me feel better is that he's the one who needs to optimize this ridiculous trick.

What did I just read? This is amazing! I always tried to land there and never succeeded, man I really need to stop leaving ideas behind just because they didn't work non-TAS. I guess it's time to write them down to test later, I had 2 ideas for Weapons Bed, one worked non-TAS but the other is too hard for me, but since you guys are working on the story mode TAS there's no need to talk about these, unless you're willing to do something there now.

Indeed. Anything you can think of, we will test. if you have time, I can even stream those attempts so you can tell me if I'm doing it wrong or possibly think of new ideas.

So, once you post the video with the trick, how long do you think it'll take sonicguitar to beat it in real time?

I don't think he'd do a no-upgrade run of Iron Gate. Otherwise I'd only give it a week. Maybe 6 days.

The length of the video with the trick + the length of his reply video, probably.

Well, the 2 ideas for Weapons Bed are these: The easy one is doing a hoverjump from the boxes that appear at 0:13 in Dennis's TAS with Sonic directly to the platform, this will save some time. The hard one will only be useful for a mission 3 run, it consists in doing the same hover jump everyone does non-TAS to reach the chao platform and then pass between the walls to get it, but instead of going where non-TASers go, aim the hover jump to land above the wall or in the box at the closest corner, this would save a lot of time, but I've never been able to do it non-TAS. These are my ideas for now, I'll take a look at some stages every now and then and if I have any idea I'll post it here.

We got it down to 22:37 and it looks great! I'll upload an encode sometime in the next couple days =)

I guess I might as well inform the people here that me and ptorflaxendrosis (www.youtube.com/user/ptorflaxendrosis) -and anyone else that wants to help out- are doing a full game hero story TAS. Right now we just have the boarding part done on city escape and it is .13 seconds faster then renebalow's m3 TAS (which was the fastest boarding section ever done not counting m5 because of the extra jump) so anyone who wants the help out (especially on the mech levels) just contact me or ptorflaxendrosis on youtube (www.youtube.com/user/itspersonnal)

Wow! The trick is awesome! I never expected it to be as impressive as it really is! Hey Andy, it's great to know that you guys could improve the damned board section, I'd never touch City Escape to TAS it just because of that.

lol yeah ptorflaxendrosis did the boarding part. I've only done about up to the first check, but I missed a ring (because I want speed shoes here) and now have to redo it :(

Can I just ask that you make sure the Air Shoes actually save time? I was always a little skeptical about that.

here's a fun fact actually, speed shoes do nothing at the last check because the BGM changes at the truck part and somehow cancels out the speed shoes, weird isn't it. but as for using them anywhere else I'm almost certain its faster, but you're right I really should test first, I'll go do that soon.

IMO it's pointless to have a "Hero only" or "Dark only" run because a full game any% obsoletes that category. Just throwing that out there...

Yeah, we're doing full game. We wanted to start with Dark story because most people wouldn't expect it.

I would love to help out this full story TAS SP, are you guys still looking for new tricks or have you started the "real" thing yet?

Since both stories end in credits, you could still do Hero and have it be submitted. Honestly, that'd be the biggest help for full-game anyways so that route planning is done by the time we get to it. We started with Dark because it's influenced less by the lack of upgrades at the beginning. we're edgy. That gives us more time to finish testing Hero, but we wouldn't need to if you guys go through and do it.

I'm fine with doing some levels, but I hate mechs and I don't want to the the luck manipulation for hunting missions if its going to be done again in your TAS because that kinda puts my efforts to waste because you will clearly be going for a slightly better time if we do it first. That said I would like to help out with this TAS if that's ok with you guys and I will try to find some tricks to be used in hero side or dark side under story mode conditions and maybe even do a few single levels in story so give you guys/ us a time to beat.
