WIP (to CN2) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/317547009/ringless2.gmv (I'm stuck with the CN2 zip, looks like I got lucky in my first "run") Edit: ARRRRRRRRRGGGH !!! How can I do this fucking zip !!! I don't understand anymore ! Someone, please, help me..... :X TASMOVIEEDITOR KEEPS BUGGING !!!!! Edit 2: Spliced. problem solved.

Awesome, it's solved! Congrats skychase! The purist in me would have preferred to be able to avoid shields and invincibility too, but we can't have it all our own way :P

Sorry to say this but: actually these are WIP, you will submit in TASvideos? If so, sorry to say it but this does not seem to have the real quality of a TAS. I would recommend not using the technique of Knuckles, to make an immediate brake, only brake with normally. I think that it would look better. Knuckles in Sonic 2 has not the same advantages as in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, even crawl on the ground is disadvantageous. I would use this only in the sprites that do not affect Knuckles with the delays and really is faster than braking. Furthermore, I note that you do not use many re-recordings, if you want it I can take a little the work in areas where you would unravel.

This test run is more like a base to improve or give ideas for better TASers future runs. Everybody who wants to make a real good no-ring run is more than welcome. (Seriously I wanted to bring back Mike89's project to life after seeing Felipe's perfect run, that was awesome ^^)

I use this run more as a learning tool, I won't submit this. When this one will be finished, I may start it all over again to beat these times, then maybe restart again until I'm satisfied. (But that's only if nobody else works on improving this with me, if better TASers get involved, I may just search for new tricks) It may not look good enough for now but some of these tricks are still kinda hard to pull off, and my times are alot better than the first WIP. What bugs me in this is that with Knuckles, I have to wait few more frames before doing a spindash because otherwise, he'll jump instead, and I must spindash often because Knuckles run really slowly, that's just ridiculous ><' Finally, I seriously don't think my routes' are the fastest. I'm looking at maps on Sonic Center all the time but there's so many paths and tricks I don't know...

oops yes I meant AR1 not MC1.
Ok, since I was at MC1 when I got that info from you I just made the ending in that act similar to how you explained it.
I feel like AR1 would be a much better place to do it, especially with the way tails made his entrance in my run. of course I don't know what you have in store for us in that level :P I guess level endings aren't that big of a deal anyway.

New gmv: Completed http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/574365226/ringless2full.gmv Thanks to Marzojr for his MZ3 skip. Edit: With some improvements sub-20 is probably possible... Soooo with better routes, more tricks and precision... (we seriously need a new HTZ2 zip) Oh and I'm fucking bad at doing spindashes in OOZ1&2.... Improvement time ! ^^ Feel free to help, I'm not gonna achieve such a task all by myself...

Very surprising to see all levels being possible, the game loves throwing you into Rings! I love these runs that show more of the game: some tricks used were really amazing (ARZ1, HTZ2...).

There looks like there's a lot of optimisation to be done (eg. falling directly on the button at the end of Wing Fortress, spin dashing out of the end of the Death Egg etc...) but it's awesome to see that a no-ring run is possible considering how many of them are in places you normally would run right through.

The test run is awesome and of course there are things that could be faster like wall climbing. But the wing fortress button is a breakable that requires a jump. Landing with your feet from a glide won't break it.

that glitch is applicated in Sonic 2 Any%. I'm surprised that you can use the zip in MT2 without receiving damage.

The any% use the lava as a shortcut, with Sonic center maps, I found another way into the wall ;P I'm now searching for MT1. Oil Ocean Zone 2: 42sec (instead of 57sec) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1582135059/ringless4.gmv I used a zip, still sloppy, but faster than the last one. Edit: Saved 10 sec (in-game time) in CP1. Hey, already 1min 07sec of in-game time saved with 2 levels, I must find a new shortcut in HTZ2....

Not a new glitch per se, but just making sure people are aware that you can get slope glitch in Wing Fortress, because I think it might be faster to use for the boss? Plus I'm wondering if there is a way to skip the ending cutscene, prolly not but I thought I may as well inform people who know what to do with it. Video of the boss with slope glitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_kXlkL8aso I forgot to record how you get slope glitch, it's by spindashing on the second to last booster pad thingo...or maybe you could do it on earlier ones, thats just the one I used.

There isn't: the entire cutscene is controlled by the Tornado's code, even the transition to the Death Egg. In order to trigger the transition, you need the Tornado to be in an internal state that can only be reached by going through the cutscene.

1. Obviously, this glitch is faster to meet the boss. 2. This glitch was discovered by my a long time. Only that so far did not know that could be effective with Sonic, because I thought it could not use spindash. 3. In the most optimal route known, there is a moment where you can apply this glitch and be used in battle. What worries me is that I'm not entirely sure this is an improvement. From where can be applied, could not use spindash or some other sprit to remove the anti-gravity glitch. If you could use in the last pushed, if it would be an improvement.

Actually, using that glitch will save time. Very nice find to tell the least. I wasn't able perform the glitch using the last booster - in which case it would save even more time. I also couldn't pull of the spin dash in the boss room at the same position that's shown in werster's video, but I found a way that was equally fast. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/788675394/Sonic%20the%20Hedgehog%202%20%28JUE%29%20WF_glitch.gmv marzojr, would you mind checking out why the glitch might not be possible to trigger on the last booster, and under what circumstances the spindash can be used in the boss room? :)
