Baxter: This movie is full of entertaining TASing that is not present in the 0 or 120 star runs that allow BLJs. There is nothing wrong with choosing restrictions and goals that may appear slightly arbitrary, in order to show off an aspect of the game that is underrepresented in the published TASes or significantly different in some other way. This movie does this well, and is therefore accepted to be published alongside the 0 and 120 star runs.
How exactly this run should be labeled, or what restrictions would be superior is up for debate, but it does not negate the above judgement.
I don't think I've ever laughed out loud in amazement for a TAS as much as I did for this one. Yes vote, and I think it might be able to take the star from the other run of this game.
So, did HSWKs turn out to not be that useful?
Great job, all of you! I've been looking forward to this run for quite awhile (evidence of how much effort went into making it), and it did not disappoint. Plenty of novel-to-me strategies and unexpected shortcuts all over the place. Way better IMO than just accelerating to lightspeed and phasing through all obstacles.

Excellent job on the run, it was very entertaining throughout the entire thing! I was certainly surprised by the glitches you you used, since most of them I don't often see due to them being exchanged for a BLJ.

Amazing and very impressive run! Some stars, like Blast to the Lonely Mushroom are brilliant strategies! Fantastic job to all of the authors.
Big yes vote!
Fantastic, awesome, and incredibly impressive.
I love how this run shows how ingenious you can be to get some of the stars. It didn't seem long seeing all this.

Magnificent! The first Sm64 TAS I've seen that wasn't a BLJfest, and it didn't disappoint. Plenty of good tricks and strategies that were shown off that wouldn't have been under a BLJ goal. And the freshest TAS of SM64 in quite some time.
Big yes vote.
Excellent run. Easy Yes vote.
I was kinda paranoid toward the end that you were going to HSWK up the Endless Stairs and get the Bowser in the Sky star for the 70th. If you'd done that, I'd've turned the emulator off and voted No instantly.

I said "Wow!" at the very first star collected, and it only got better from there. I feel it's also different enough from the 120 star run that you all get a Yes from this long-time lurker.

This run made me say "Holy crap" at least 10 times. While BLJ's are mind-blowing, it is incredibly impressive on a whole new level to see Mario blast through these obstacles with crazy accuracy and momentum preservation. Tick Tock Clock was probably my favorite map, given how brutally obstacles were skipped with precise wallkicks.
Also, let's break Bubble Bobble's record for most authors in a publication ;-)
Absolutely a Yes vote.
EDIT: When I watched this on emulator, it paused right after the movie ended. I want to disable this, but I can't find the option in Mupen0.5 to disable the pausing.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically.
Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.)
Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html)
Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature!
Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
The pausing is a bug in Mupen. There's no way to avoid it; you'll just have to unpause if you want to see the game's ending. Encoders get around this by extending the movie file to when Mario touches the star, at which point pausing has no effect.
No vote for abusing forward speed slightly and not using the J rom. I found this run to be very impressive. The optimization and route planning for what stars to get is great and looks like it took a lot of work.
Star 3 in SSL was awesome, really didn't expect that! Nothing's (I think it was him) star kick into HMC still gives me a laugh also. Woah, the HMC star 4's route was sick. Lastly I thought manipulating the enemy onto the blue coin switch in WDW was clever (I've had that happen while messing around before but it's cool to see in a run).
Yes vote for sure, would make a good catagory that will look different enough than the 120 star run in progress and the 0 star run. I think "no major sequence breaks" or whatever is a well defined goal.
I like the third screenshot the best, where Mario is diving to the Island in the Sky.
Also, how will the N64 movies page handle a run with this many authors?
how can I vote Yes?
the run was awesome, the best stars were (IMO)
Inside the Ancient Pyramid
Boil the Big Bully
Watch for the Rolling Rocks
100 Coins & Secret in the Shallows & Sky
Chill with the Bully
100 Coins & Stomp on the Thwomp
Ps: I guess I have the WR of: THI - Pluck the Piranha Flower
:)
Yes. I've been waiting for a complete-ish TAS for quite a while. While I'd still tend to think that a 120-stars run should replace this, it'd have to be a 120-stars BLJless run.
I really feel bad because there's obviously a lot of work in this run and there's so many authors involved, but I've got to vote no. First, it just collects 70 stars instead of 120, so the run feels incomplete. But most importantly, I don't see the pertinence of a BLJless category, especially when I compare it to the currently-published 120 stars run which barely uses BLJ inside levels. They're way too similar.
As far as I know, BLJ is not a bug that destroys normal gameplay, so this run just feels like a step backwards for me. I could be wrong though, and if I am, I'd like to see a run on TASVideos that completely abuses BLJ to collect all the stars in the game. Until then, I'm sticking to my no vote.
I've waited a long time to see an optimzed 70-star run and I wasn't dissapointed. The amount of optimization is incredible and I especially loved the small details, like how you entered TTC in a different way after each star.
Obvious yes vote, that's star material!

There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

That's because the minimum amount to beat the game without a major break (BLJing) is 70 stars. It's not some random number.
Rikku's currently published 120 star run is a horrible comparison to what an optimized 120 star run of today would look like. I wouldn't use that as an example to support your "no" vote.
Heh, you'd be surprised what it can destroy. Trust me.
