Game Discription

The Goonies II (グーニーズ2 フラッテリー最後の挑戦 Gūnīzu Tsū: Furatterī Saigo no Chōsen?, The Goonies II: The Fratellis' Last Stand) is an adventure game developed and published by Konami for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was released on March 18, 1987 in Japan, November 1987 in North America, and on December 19, 1988 in Europe. It is a sequel to the first Famicom Goonies game, which was only available in North America on Nintendo Vs. System and PlayChoice-10 arcade units. This led some people to believe that it was supposed to be a sequel to a first Goonies videogame that was widely released. The game's story centers on Mikey. His friends, the Goonies, have been kidnapped by the Fratellis, an Italian family of small-time crooks and counterfeiters. Mikey must rescue all six of his friends and free a captured mermaid named Annie who did not appear in the film.

About the run

In this run, there are big differents like change the route, there are another faster route.with this change i make this run improvement than the published run by 4454 frames(about 1m,16s)

Tricks & Informations

1-Raison for use J version: If i use the J version i can save more frames than using the U version.Why?. In the doors, the informations writing is faster in the J version. For exemple:the first door, when i get the Hammer, the time for writing information is about 1 seconde but in the U version is about 2 secondes
2-Route Discription: I changed the route in order not to go for jumping shoes because going to do that much time is lost and the route that when I use the shoes is slightly slower than the used in this run
3-Getting hit in the back by enemies: using this trick i can save 4 frames than jump over the enemies
4-Get the key holders from the enemies: to do that i need defeat 3 enemies
5-Speed jumping without hypershoes:i do this glitch in the red cave for saving more time
6-Run items
  • Glasses: Can display same secet doors
  • Hyper Shoes: this item can speed up walking.I found it in a secet door in the upward of orange cave
  • Bommerange: I use this for getting key holders by defeating the enemies
  • Diving Suit: With this item i can go to the sea
  • Key holders: Using this i can save the goonies
  • Ladder: using this item i can go to the up or down rooms

Thanks to:

  • the player on Nicovideo (i think his name is Smile)
  • Randil:for his great trick and his run
  • Walker Boh:for his knowledge about the route(maybe is slower)

Closing

Thank you for reading my submission
I guess this is all informations

This is all Comments

Truncated: Thank you for your submission. Since this is played on a different version than the published movie (which is made on USA version), we need to know how much of the improvement comes from the version change, and how much is to changes in route and optimization and such. Please supply this information.
Truncated: I see that you have added some info on the J versus the U version. We need more exact info than you have written. For example "4300 frames saved because of version change, 154 frames saved because of route change".
If you have problems understanding this, please let us know your first language and someone will probably be able to translate for you.

McBobX:My first language is: Arabic. Can I submitt the movies with this language?
FractalFusion: McBobX, use whatever language you want. But it seems you know French. I suggest using French if you can. We also have a French-language forum.

McBobX: I cancle this submission for this one: #3677: McBobX's NES The Goonies 2 in 15:07.69

I definitely enjoyed this run and the new route was a nice surprise as well. A very nice improvement. The only 2 things I see breaking this game open big time are higher jumping to save some time climbing certain ladders... and finding a way to drop off a ladder. But I am unsure if those will ever be possible. Yes vote for such a nice improvement though! Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Did you remember to read the comments in your previous run? http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13054 I guess not... seeing as this run is still 1:30 slower then the nico run.

And that run not only kills off all the lives, but then uses a Password! I personally feel that while the pw idea is faster, this TAS is much more genuinely awesome as it gets it done how a gamer who had God Like skills would do it, which is genuinely more in tune with what has been seen on this site for videos. [With certain exceptions... like Second Quest Zelda for instance] But this is my personal opinion. Granted.. another death could have been used now that I saw how well it worked in the Nico run... but still a Yes Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Well, that is your opinion. I found a TAS on the (U) version that is no death. http://winback.web.fc2.com/nicovideo/?sm7853801 It's in 15:51, 21 seconds slower then this run. If this run was done on the (U) version, how longer would it be? I think the run should be done on (U) anyway.

Site rules say to disregard text animation speed when comparing a time from the US and Japanese versions of the game. So a run of the US version that saves 1 frame during gameplay would still obsolete the Japanese version. Is the Nico run even legitimate? It dies, then uses the password it just got to save time.

I do not see a problem with that strategy.

I agree, something controversial would be if it just randomly use a password, but it doesn't, so yay. Also, some published runs use password like that, like Metroid.

It's not bad. I checked this against the US version and this seems to be done better. But, I can be wrong (and probably am).

I think most of us are waiting for an encote to view and vote. I'm personally pretty curious to see this.

I'm pretty familiar with this game - it appears that most of the time saved is from a different route. Due to the location of the items and Goonies (combined with the map layout), this game will require a bit of backtracking, or at least visiting the same area a couple of times. It just depends on how you want to backtrack (get jumping shoes or not). I agree with Dwedit (I think) and don't really like the Nico run. I already stated so in the Goonies II thread. I also don't think it's valid to compare Metroid (which uses a controller-restart sequence) to the Nico run (which resets the game, goes back to the game menu, and enters a new password each time in the password screen). I vote yes for this one. I'm not sure how I would vote if someone submitted a Nico-style run.
