I've been wanting to make a TAS of Cave Story, and whenever I load a save state, the visuals of the game crashes, as I can still hear the sounds when I jump and such. I use a Windows 7 Home Premium, x86 with 8GB of RAM. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or can the emulator only run on XP? I don't think this is the case as somebody else I asked has it working on a Vista x86, and I tried it on my vista as well with no luck. Thanks.

I think it depends on your video card driver whether this bug happens. I plan to fix it, but here are some workarounds you can try in the meantime:
  • enable "Graphics > Surface Memory > System Memory"
  • or, maybe disable "Graphics > Allow Hardware Acceleration"
  • configure the game to run in windowed mode
  • disable "Runtime > Performance > Store Video Memory in Savestates"
  • disable hardware acceleration in your system display options troubleshooting settings, or maybe try changing other options that are specific to your type of video card
  • try using older or newer versions of your video driver or a different video card, if possible
If any/all of those don't help, then revert the change(s) and I guess you'll have to wait for a fix. If one of those does work, keep in mind that some of them aren't saved settings, so you might have to re-apply it every time you start Hourglass.

Well, save states work now, but when I use slowdown it does the same thing as before.

(Save states work now after doing which thing?) That's weird, are you sure it's the same problem? (If it is then some of the workarounds I suggested above might still apply to it.) Also, have you tried both slow motion and frame advance? What about simply pausing and unpausing? Does disabling multithreading or DirectSound make any difference?

Ok um. I think it works now, I think the problem was that it kept resetting the "Graphics > Surface Memory > System Memory" to let the game choose.

This is a problem for me too, Hourglass restores all settings to default whenever I shut it down and start it up the next time. Kind of annoying.

What's the one you used to make your "Cave Story" TAS? I can't seem load savestates consistently; it crashes the game 1/2 the time.
