Hey, I want to make an Atlantis Squarepantis TAS because I have it on my real DS and I've found MANY super cool time saving tips. Also, can I use Squidward? I'll need him to make a better runthrough than with the other characters alone. I'm not gonna collect any of the treasures you actually have to search for (the ones you don't automatically collect) until I start recording, so I can actually collect them as part of the run. I'll even drain my melody shells if I have to before I start. Please let me know if that's ok (I want a judge to verify it).
Also, if you have any more time saving tips, let me know.
Your personal save is irrelevant, the emulator is not allowed to load it for the movie. The movie has to start from an empty state.
If your emulator doesn't automatically ignore save data when recording then you must move the existing save data to another location while working on the movie.
Of course, if you can present a clear need to start from saved data (like the game using unlocked content) then and only then can you use it. And if you do then you need a verification movie that creates the save.
Uh....ok?
Why do you have to ask this? If it's the fastest character, sure, go ahead.
You just answered the above question yourself. >.>
What's the benefits of using a save? If there's no real reason to, other than to "look" better, don't. It's against the guidelines.
You might as well delete your save before you start, tbh.
A judge's decision in this case won't really affect the chances of the run getting published because, well, you haven't even shown a test run or something. The goals may be entertaining, but if the finished run gets alot of "no" votes, I'm not sure how the run being verified as ok would stop it from being rejected.
i needed permission so THATS why I asked. and squidward is unlockable, so I thought I could ask. You say I need to have a verification movie for that? Well, ok, I can do that.
And Squid is fastest, at least for me. Also by draining my melody shells first, I don't need to lose Squidward by deleting my save. i get plenty of melody shells on the way, so it wouldn't really make a difference. Just so I techinically have a fresh start.
AND I'll show a Test Run. Also, with the verification movie not collecting treasures, its closer to the 'fresh start'. BTW I read the rules before posting this topic, THATS why I asked for permission first. Anything else I need to know?
Wow....
Ever heard of the edit button?
Also, you don't need a judge's permission to TAS stuff. I mean, seriously, do you think people would enjoy judging TAS's if they get spammed by like a billion PM's of people asking them "is this game ok to TAS"?
What? At least for you? So if I were to TAS this game, Squidward would magically slow down just because I'm not you? Huh?
Also, how's that a fresh start? You said that squidward is an unlockable character, and I'm sure unless you cheated, you can't start a "FRESH START" with unlockables.
Yea, how about reading the part of the rules where it states to start from a clear SRAM. I'll even post it for you to read:
Also:
How about you start a new page in the game resources, and input the tricks you already know? I mean, you have the game, so you must've at least played it before and tried to speedrun somehow to find a general route, right?
"Note that you don't have to optimize the verification movie: it only serves as a save or SRAM generator that makes it possible to claim the legitimacy of your effort."
Sheesh i was just saying that i was really good with squidward and better than with ither characters and I was asking to tas WITH the unlockable content already unlocked and im not cheating and WITH SPECIAL PERMISSION YOU DONT NEED TO HAVE A CLEAR SRAM!!!!!! Fine ill post some of the tricks if itll make you happy |:(
For example, i found that you can dance on some of the bosses with squiddys jump kick. Theres a glitch in atlantis where if you use arm extension on the cannons core at a certain place itll automatically warp to the cannon. By dancing on the cannons during the final boss, you can leap over the invisible wall and start immediatley attacking plankton. And (probably one of my best) a glitch where you can take other characters into places normally that only spongebob and pat could access. Thats only afew. I can post more if thatll MAKE YOU HAPPY! |:| ive done my homework on the subject AND the game.
You asked me to list some glitches i found.
See? Ive played it before? Your kidding right? --' only a million times FROM THE BEGINNING! Yeah, i think thats all i have to say for that.
If i use edit then if someone else wants to talk they might be confused. I only use it for mistakes i missed. Theres also a delete feature 'in case you didnt know'. I know, i know, its still alot --'
zwataketa, it really seems like you got this idea in your head of how a TAS is supposed to go and that's just not how it is brother. You've gotta follow the guidelines here or it won't be accepted. There'd be nothing worse than putting in a lot of hard work just for it to be rejected because you didn't follow the simplest of rules.
If you want to use an unlockable character in a game, Squidward in your case, you're going to have to make a verification movie. The reason is so SRAM (save file) can be generated with the unlocked content in your actual movie when it is played back. Your movie will be rejected if you either A) Try to provide an SRAM with your movie instead of a verification movie that generates the SRAM or B) Start from a savestate.
Also, no one is saying use just one post for everything. Generally it's only a good idea to double post only when there hasn't been anything said in a long time OR you're bringing some new and crucial information into the thread.
He can't create or edit Game Resources pages because he hasn't had a published run before.
Zwataketa, I think what you should do is either post all the tricks you've found here so you won't forget them, or post your test run with all the tricks in it. I haven't played the game, but I'll be happy to watch your WIPs and tell you what looks good and what looks improvable.
How much faster is Squidward anyway? If he's not much faster, then it wouldn't be worth it to start from SRAM just to run through the game a little faster.
Alright, so ill post some of my tricks (ive got em written down). And i HAVE read all the guidelines and i know how to set it up, vanillacoke. And squid is MUCHmuch faster with me since i came up with some time saving tricks for him that are WAY faster than the other characters. Also, weeell ... your gonna have to wait a bit before my test run, im grounded right now |:/ so right now im planning. Thats a smart thing to do for tas, right?
Oh and if you find any cool tips of your own, tell me and ill see if mine or yours is faster :)
One minor tip is that the easiest way to defeat the fire jellies in the volcano is (drumroll)octo copter. You can beat em in just a few seconds compared to other characters who always get burned (and i mean ALWAYS) ill post more as time flies till my test run :)
Any Character almost anywhere glitch: first save where you want to use the character. Then go to the mu continent and choose youre character. Exit and go back to the title screen. Choose your profile and, without doing anything else, go to the main game. This doesnt work in cave level, prefinal boss, and is pointless in mu continent. (on a side note, its one of my favorites.)
