Interesting find. I always suspected you could get over that wall in Dragon Shores, but I never did spend much time trying. So, permanent super flame can be gotten as soon as Spyro reaches Winter Tundra. Since Dragon Shores isn't necessary for 100% completion, we have to factor in if the time spent getting it is worth it. Most likely it is, since the time it will shave from the Ripto fight alone might make up for it, plus the benefit of having super flame for the Winter Tundra levels and the two Autumn Plains levels we have to backtrack to. I am not convinced it will save 6 minutes, though. That is a lot of time, and the amount of uses super flame has on the remaining levels isn't enough to save that much in my opinion. Still, it is most likely worth it.
I started watching Cypryss' 100% run, but the video quality is poor and it has some stuttering issues. Still, it is the fastest 100% run with a video that I know of so I will study it.
1. You can purchase the swim ability before entering Colossus quite easily without sacrificing time since you will already have 400 gems from Glimmer alone (from skipping Money Bags). It is faster to enter Idol Springs first anyway since you would otherwise have to run to Idol Springs and then run back toward Colossus again. You should collect all of the gems outside Glimmer (except the ones near the water tunnel) and collect all of the gems in the pit and on the stairs in the next room (running down the stairs and taking the whirlwind is the fastest). When you enter the area near Idol Springs, collect all of the gems around Idol Springs counter-clockwise, including the gem worth 25 nearby. Ignore the gems near Hunter for now. By then you should have enough gems to purchase the swim ability.
To me, this doesn't exactly make much sense. I guess I will try and draw a picture to clear up why I think it doesn't make much sense. You would have a bit of a problem with the gems after colossus. I also hope you know about the skip through the roof. Also about the swim you were mentioning, we already use this in the current route. I also think the tas could go below 1:55.

Best Moneybags picture ever (but where is the bag ?).
I agree that Crash41596's route is faster, but isn't it better that after Hunter's challenge, you directly double jump to the next orb, then go in the water to go back to the start of summer forest, then swim in the air to clear this area a little bit faster ?
If you guys are ever in need of a more accurate map for two very close alternative routes, I recommend, if possible, to swim in the air up high and and then taking a nice accurate screenshot.

Hey now, I quite enjoyed Crash's very artistic paint picture :)
OT: I've never fully tested myself what is fully the fastest, mostly because there is always faster routes being found and kinda kills my motivation til i know what the fastest route is fully, for that I usually just check up on rta runs P:.. But I think Crash has. I'll ask him. (And update you when I figure out).
Also, Ponies <3>.> .. Spike nice subject "Zeupar you're a potato" :p

You have to keep in mind the gems in the castle, and underwater at colossus. We use swim later in the route after sunny beach.
Just wanted to say we will be making a "Test run TAS" of the complete route without major optimization coming within the month (expect it as a teaser Christmas present?). Although it wont have major optimization it will look great regardless. Can expect the full TAS itself within the first 3 or 4 months of 2013, hopefully :p.
Updated original posts with new information and cleaned it up to look nice.
No real progress has been made in a while, but new tricks are being found every now and then. If the gulp skip (or skip to gulp really) is not found soon (as in a month or two), I might as well give up for now on finding it and start the real run when summer vacation begins. But finding it has been a priority of this run in general for a while now with the finding of the early super-flame. It'd save a lot of time and it would be a pain to find a method to make it possible half way through the TAS, or even near the end.
I've spent roughly 200-300 or so hours since about 9 months ago trying to find how this would be possible.. with no luck. Progress will be slow of course either way.
Just to give a quick update for this project. The actual tas has started. We kinda gave up on the idea of a test tas, because it was pretty much pointless. So there should be a wip in a week or 2 of the first 3 levels.
Get your ass online Cody!!
We're currently at a slump with Idol Springs fishes trying to get a good time for that, after we got a good time, Idol Springs will be completed probably within a day or two. So expect a WIP by at least next Saturday for Glimmer, Colossus, and Idol Springs.
Alright, since the gulp skip has been found, the tas will have to be re-done. This really sucks since I will have to redo idol springs fish. The route would basically be Glimmer > Ocean Speedway > Crush > Crystal Glacier > Gulp > Fireball > Robotica > Canyon Speedway > Summer Forest > Autumn Plains > Finish Zee Game!
In the meantime I will work on an any% tas which will probably be sub 10 minutes.
