Hi, I know in some games there is a difference of speed between the PAL and NTSC version. I would like to know... How to deal with this ? For example, I recently found that Billy Hatcher PAL was running faster than NTSC, so should I TAS the PAL version of this game ? I saw there was a "PAL" run of Metroid for example, so I'm confused.. Need your help please !

Well, it depends. For example, MUGG's "PAL" version of SMB was unpopular (with near identical amounts of Yes/No votes). That, and it caused a shitstorm.

In this case, there was already a huge history behind SMB speedrunning and TASing. Billy Hatcher doesn't have an any% run published yet (which is what I'm planning to do). The arguments in this thread are pretty clear : Not enough difference between PAL and NTSC to justify a new category or to put it with the US version, but in my case there aren' t any US version made. Does that make it different ?

Found it: http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#UseTheCorrectVersion
Due to the lower frame rate (50 Hz) and the fact that games are usually not modified in order to compensate for this, PAL versions of ROMs are generally not preferred, unless there are significant technical and/or entertainment merits to using this version. See Rygar and Blaster Master for examples of good usage of the PAL ROM.
Is the only difference in speed? No other glitches or anything? Btw, what language is the NTSC version of the game if there's no (U) version?

The only diffrerence is speed, and there is a NTSC/US version, it's the one I used for the All Level run. I guess I will use it again for the any%, thanks for your help !

Keep in mind that - more people will be familiar with the 60Hz version - 50Hz doesn't really work well with most displays these days (you'll get very choppy scrolling), unless you still use a CRT monitor
