Submission Text Full Submission Page
I'm afraid that submitting this run on April Fool's day might lead people to believe that it isn't genuine, but I'm so excited for everyone to see the finished product that I'm gonna take the risk. Another branch name that I considered for this run is "Finishes A Different Game".
Please refer to bortreb's submission text for a comprehensive explanation of how the Pokemon Total Control Hack works: #3767: bortreb's GBC Pokémon: Yellow Version "arbitrary code execution" in 12:51.87
My run essentially replaces the contents of Pokemon Yellow's RAM with the data necessary to play the entire end-of-game sequence from GBC Link's Awakening, i.e. beginning immediately after the wind fish fade-out and continuing all the way to "The End". Not surprisingly, it takes a substantial amount of time to write all of that data; the total payload is about 690kB, and as we're only able to do 1 byte per frame, 690kB / (60 B/s) = just over three hours.
All input up to the payload delivery is copied verbatim from bortreb's submission; special thanks go out to him for making this run possible.
(I'll insert further details here later)

Nach: Judging.

Wouldn't this be a copyright violation? You are effectively encoding a good portion of game code into your submission file. Might fall under fair use, but I'm no lawyer. Yes, it's cute that you start out in one game, and beat another, but I think the whole we can do anything once we can input code onto the stack is getting a tad old.

it's just bortreb's input and the encode has a pony gangnam style stuck to the end of it

I have no explanation for this. My youtube account must have been hacked. Rest assured I'll remedy the situation immediately.

If this is real, it's what I have been hoping for since the RAM rewrite hack was documented. EDIT: boo hiss someone should do this for real though

Has anyone watched the input file to the end? I'm playing it back now but it could be a while even at 1000% speed

In a real one, the payload would have to be significantly less than 690kb, as the system only has 32kb of RAM.

Not 100% true. If you could rewrite the ram as the ending was being played out you would need more space. Also I don't think there is a 1:1 of record file size to ram. I'm not sure of the internal format, and how the game but I assume that the annotations take up space in some way (seeing as there are 8 gb buttons).

By the way, the actual VBM file crashes VBA at frame 44077, around where execution of the payload would normally begin in bortreb's TAS.

I'm curious, has anybody attempted to add a decompression algorithm so a compressed (and hopefully much smaller) payload can be sent as input instead?

Well, you're doing something wrong then, probably interference from antivirus software or something. Check your firewall settings, and make sure all of your speakers are plugged in.

Holy crap. If a brony can be pissed off by something with ponies in it, then I sure refuse to watch! I refuse to accept anything that isn't pi. Only irrational numbers exist.

The fact that not only can you skip forward, but youtube actually shows a thumbnail image of the video at any point by hovering the timeline bar kind of spoils the joke...
