Super Boy 2 TAS
Super Boy 2 is a Sega Master System pirate game made by Zemina. It's a fuckin ripoff an original platformer.
  • Used BizHawk 1.4.1
  • Genre: Platform
This is a platforming game where you play as some guy (they don't name him.) I'll call him Styer.

Level Comments

1-1

Right away, we see this game is a copy of Sonyc Super Mario Bros, except with stiffer controls and worse graphics. These don't matter in a TAS, of course.

1-2

Styer is not very excited to get into that pipe. This level is a ripoff of SMB 1-2, except there's no warp zone. Running on the falling platforms wastes a few frames each time, so every time I can, I jump.

1-3

This level is very short for some reason.

1-4

The castle levels in this game suck a whole load of ass. The fireballs have humongous hitboxes, so we have to wait for them to go away before we can jump. I tried to optimize it as good as I can.

2-1

Another run right for justice level.

2-2

Cheep-Cheeps everywhere!!! AUGH.

2-3

The levels really don't get very varied.

2-4

This stupid castle level took a ton of rerecords, especially the part with the wide pit and the two fireballs.

3-1

Straightforward and short.

3-2

Like the fireballs, the Spiny Shells have far too big hitboxes. I avoid them as good as I can. This is also the longest level in the TAS.

3-3

Pretty much a rehash of 2-2.

3-4

This castle level was a bit easier, though we still had to optimize some parts.

4-1

What the heck is up with the flying enemies? They don't have wings!

4-2

Another generic level.

4-3

Spiny Shells are in this level, along with a lot of falling platforms. We simpy dodge all of them.

4-4

The final level. It's also the easiest castle level. It seemed the fireballs were co-operating here.

Ending

Fucking beautiful.
That's all folks. Enjoy the TAS. Just a note, this game is desync-prone, so DON'T use turbo or it will desync. You have been warned.

feos: Accepting for Vault.
NitroGenesis: Encodes underway.

I looked at it before on YouTube and I have to say that this game is very ugly compared with the original but I am going to vote all the same yes.

Voted no because: -You didn't beat andrewg's unassisted time of 4:58. -You didn't jam to the amazing original background music featured with this original game. -You clearly used a game genie code to let cheep cheeps hold L to levitate. -You didn't jump through any hammer streams. -This game teaches poor lessons to children about the physics and procreation of spinys. I cannot in good faith vote Yes to a TAS that spreads false information about the finest creature of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Funny, this game reminds me of something.. I can't quite put my finger on... For a SG-1000 game it would be an achievement, really, I've seen worse scrolling. But wow, does it hurt my ears. The run is good, obviously. Meh vote.
My first language is not English, so please excuse myself if I write something wrong. I'll do my best do write as cleary as I can, so cope with me here =) (ノಥ益ಥ)ノ

Bizhawk does not properly emulate Daewoo Zemmix yet. Run cannot be considered valid.

What on earth did they do to the fish levels? And Lakitu?? This is actually decent for a pirate game, but I still wouldn't play it. The run was pretty entertaining though. Yes vote.

this game is garbage. No vote and no for the vault. Yes for deleting any and all copies of the game that exist in cyberspace.

Uh, Zemina. Didn't expect to meet you on this site. I can't still believe they sold this junk to children. Not voting this time.

I love all the hate in the comments ^^ This is so bad, that it actually becomes very interesting to watch. You always wonder: How low can this go? And if we can publish Cheetahmen II, we can also have this.
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

Never played this and cannot say how optimized it was, but the video was not really enjoyable to watch. However, I would still give it a «yes» vote for looking really fast, but it’s a weak yes vote, sorry.

I find it comical how crappy this is... for the first few levels. It drags on after a while. Then I saw the really butchered Lakitu and laughed all over again. On the plus side, it doesn't look like your hero even needs to do a flagpole glitch... he just cuts through the bottom anyway, and there's no score countdown of the timer. On the minus, it's a shame to see it's not worth picking up any powerups. I'm voting Meh for entertainment, but I'd say this deserves a spot in the Vault. If the hitboxes are really as bad as you say they are, then some of the fireball-dodging jumps are pretty impressive.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

I really wonder where you find such roms. I'm jealous. Anyway, fun and silly bad game, short enough to be watched without having bleeding ears.

That level design didn't look half bad. Someone should make a SMB hack so we can play these levels in a proper engine.

This is like Super Mario Bros. high on crack. Really trippy.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Holy crap! If there's one thing I always hated about Mario games, it's that Koopas don't go down in one hit. Instead, you stomp them, and they duck into their shells, allowing you to score a 1-Up if you can kick them into enough other enemies. Lame! Super Boy II is vastly superior! Vote Yes, and vote that it obsoletes every Mario run on the site! Edit: I just realized that Super Boy II also fixes that vastly broken game mechanic from the Mario games where stomping on enemies gives you points! Good! Now players have to earn their high scores!

This must be what happens when game developers eats Mario's mushrooms. This really is so bad that it's outright hilarious. I vote yes.

Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.
