I am no master of finishing what i start either, but I'm pretty sure you can do it if you want to. Don't let yourself get dragged into the "i'm worthless and this will never work and i can never finish it..."
I hope someone else will pick this up in any case. Any takers?
The run has clearly been abandoned, just look at the the previous posts from 2 years ago, aside the runner hasn't made a post in any part of the forum for nearly a year.
:-(
no good!
i know the game is crap (but the tas isn't) - never liked it (back in schools time) and always preferred the predecessor (that's why i don't even try to finish this).
greetings of the season
SoR3 isn't so much crap as it is misadjusted. The Japanese version is much more reasonable difficulty-wise. American "Easy" is Japanese "Normal" except the game ends after Robot-X. American "Normal" is Japanese "Hard" and it really is quite hard.
Mind, I'm not a huge fan of the music in SoR 3, especially compared to 2.

Ehrm .... can't get it to run on any Gens version I have .... which ROM is being used? It looks screwed on Bare Knuckle 3 and on Streets of Rage 3, but both start the game in an optimized way O.o
EDIT: now I could see, and it's so incredible, someone HAS to complete it ._.
I think the difficulty selections of different releases aren't comparable. SoR3 scales damage depending on difficulty level, and BK3 doesn't. That's why BK3 on hardest is a cakewalk, SoR3 on hardest is very difficult.
Oh yeah, the TAS. Someone please finish it. atro city already said it was okay to continue off his run.

I think, for fun factor that:
- For fun factor, Zan should get all chickens and fruits, people just love when the energy and life they need while playing is completely wasted =P
- In 4-2, they should show off the bug when you're stepping into the cabin but get hit by the train for no damage =P
- In the end of 4-2, one of them should pass by the car =P
- I think the WIP is missing one motorcycle guy on 1-2...
Anyway, this is EPIC, it's one of the best and funniest TASes I've ever seen, and it's not even complete yet, it simply NEEDS to be done! @___@
That part on 5-2 where all the enemies get going to the middle of them is extreme! @___@
I think the time will be around what, 35 minutes? It's not THAT long for a run, .. I've re-played Bare Knuckle 3 yesterday, and I can finish the game in 58 minutes, and this one is played in the hardest version, I just can't see how someone would give up on this project! @___@
Man, I'd forgotten just how much of a slog level 4 is. And it doesn't get better. Ninjas everywhere.
Thanks for the encode, though. The sequence where Zan was casually tossing enemies into the pit one after another was quite amusing.

You're welcome, Derakon! The score stars allow you to perform the upgraded blitz attacks on a 3-Button SEGA Genesis Controller. With a 6-Button Controller, you can input the X Button and then a certain sequence to do a special blitz attack. Streets of Rage 3 is just too hard for me to figure that out by heart.
You get the stars after scoring, I think, 50,000 points without dying -- each time you die, you lose a star. The stars give you upgraded blitz attacks, as Lorenzo mentioned. For example, Blaze's forward flip attack first gains more horizontal range, then turns into a backflip that hits more times, then gets a sliding dash added onto the end of it. I think all of the blitzes follow that formula -- first a faster/better-reach version of the basic blitz, then a brand new blitz, then the new blitz with an extra move on the end. Axel's Grand Upper transforms into a roundhouse punch and then a combination roundhouse-uppercut, for example.
As Lorenzo mentions, if you have a 6-button controller then you can execute any blitz attack at any time with the right button combination; it works a bit like street fighter games.
Streets of Rage 3 is honestly nowhere near as good as Bare Knuckle 3 (its Japanese counterpart). The increases in difficulty are completely over the top; not only is the Japanese Hard mode the American Normal one, but the enemies get even more health and deal more damage when they hit too. And of course you're required to play on "Normal" to proceed past the fourth stage! Playing Bare Knuckle 3 is fun; playing Streets of Rage 3 is just a slog.

I think the score stars are at least a multitude of 40,000 points, as far as I know.
Bare Knuckle III? I find it easier than Streets of Rage 2. In fact, I even have an entire playthrough on YouTube, using only one of my continues. But Streets of Rage 3, on the other hand...
Also, I wonder why none of us seemed to simply make an encode of this WIP...
Derakon, Lorenzo_The_Comic, ....SorR is even better. But of course, it isn't a Genesis game =)
And it's got a couple bugs. And way too many Jets. And the Ninjas are way too cheap. But it's a blast.
Hope this run is finished soon.
Yes, SORR is better. Has anyone investigated running it in Hourglass? Of course, it doesn't have the original SOR3 route; the best you can do is approximate it.

Though I played about 3x SoR2 as a kid, have to agree...disappointed that the original route isn't available. Gotta tickle that nostlagia. Good question with Hourglass; if I get some time next week and nobody else does it first I'll try it.
I used to run SORR under VirtualBox and had absolutely terrible loading times until I moved the program from a "shared drive" (between the host OS and the VirtualBox OS) to the virtual OS's C drive. Something similar to the shared-drive issue may apply when running in Hourglass, even when virtualization isn't an issue. No idea why; other programs didn't have similar issues. I'd guess SORR is doing something funky with disk accesses.

Here's my Hourglass test. I wish gsaurus would get back into TASing so he can help finish the movie.
While Streets of Rage Remake (only V5) can run on PSP, it's very slow, the color palette appears inverted, and I can't play any stages. So I guess I'd give it a "Yellow" in terms of compatibility. Such a shame that SEGA put a stop to their work on the conversion.
I played through Bare Knuckle III again recently, and I died only 7 times without using up any of my continues. The enemies I died against, as far as I remember, were the 3rd Yamato, one of the Electra's before you fight Robo X, Jet, one of the Lasers and secret agents at Round 7B, and Neo X (messed up the simple tactic where he jumps at you then you neutral jump attack him, rinse and repeat).
Stage 5 is done.
Link to videoI'm still not sure exactly what makes the robots explode, so I'll have to see what I can do. (Edit: Apparently they explode when their health reaches a certain value [just over a lifebar])
Also, how do you copy a block of input in Gens? In the interests of actually finishing the run, I'll probably copy the input from switchboard room #1 to #2 since they're identical.
Hooray, this run is still alive! And man, those enemies do not have good survival instincts, do they? They keep wandering into the Handshake of Death!
Afraid I can't help you with your Gens question, but I wish you luck with the rest of the run!
Also, cripes Robot X has a lot of health!
