Not much point. A TAS of this game is extremely hard to optimise, and the best that has been made is by David on rMC3, the simplest course. Things such as 100% or any% don't really exist in this game. You could start off from a new save file and go through all the cups several times, changing vehicles as you unlock them, but that'd be pretty boring, because firstly you'd have to tt every course to unlock everything, and even in the races against CPUs you'd just be manipulating the best item at the start and then tt'ing as usual, manipulating the cpu items so that you don't get a blue.
Basically, things are best as they are, with tasers doing track by track.
Well, the time has come. A large group of friends and I have begun planning an any% Mario Kart Wii speedrun, but with this there are a few concerns. First off, what would "any%" be? it would most likely be completing all 32 tracks in a grand prix as quick as possible, which would mean we would pick 150cc. The problem with this is that a significant amount of time would be wasted if we were to use anyone besides Funky Kong. He's not unlocked from the game's first startup, so if we were to use him we would have to start from a certain save file. Assuming that we were to supply that along with our dtm file, would that harm our chances of getting our run published?
Finally, we probably won't start until a Wii Remote TAS Input comes out. Wii Wheel actually allows for sharper turns and overall better handling for tilting and other things. Hopefully that gets done within the next few months or so, but we can only hope.
Previous TASes:
Frogger's Adventures: The Rescue
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door any% x 8
Paper Mario 64
Luigi's Mansion
Sonic Heroes - Team Sonic
Mario Kart Wii ILs

Well, we do have a published Mario kart TAS for the snes, so you could follow what it does as an "any%".
Also, the same TAS starts from SRAM to enable Hard mode, so I guess you could also make a verification dtm that has Funky Kong and Hard mode unlocked as well.
That would be perfectly acceptable according to the Movie Rules:
However, there are certain games with unlockable modes, second quests, or other things of interest that can only be accessed if a save file (or an otherwise "dirty" SRAM) is present. If you really wish to submit a movie made on such a mode, you will need a verification movie made and provided alongside it. Any input file that starts from power-on (for example, a previously submitted movie for that game) and creates the exact circumstances for your submission to sync will generally do.
I'm sure it's much more entertaining to use Funky Kong than any other character, so I don't see why it would be disallowed in this case.
I hope a Wii Remote TAS Input gets done soon too so you can start working on this.

how do you even unlock Funky normally?
if you have to unlock like half of the game just to get him, then what’s the point? using Bowser or MB+Daisy (assuming those are available at start) wouldn’t make much of a difference
and don’t forget that for GP mode you’ll have to manipulate items, it’s not the same as TTs; so even without Wiimote Input or whatever, starting a test run to see how the whole manipulation deal works would be a good idea
and, are David or Lukas in on the run? if not you’re probably gonna have a hard time manipulating RNG when you’ve never TAS’d with RAM addresses before edit: I forgot about your recent Paper Mario TAS, so I guess you got some experience with RAM watch now
Both David and Lukas are going to participate. The strange thing about ram watch for MKWii is that the addresses change for every course, so it's much harder to find all the correct values... 32 times in a row. Either way we will be doing some test runs soon to make notes about item RNG.

I assume it was already done, but did someone check for a pointer or offset to either a structure that could contain the speed value or the speed value itself?
I believe MKDasher has done that before, so I'll have to ask him later.

If this is legit, (it probably is but you can't trust this TASer) then a few flaps will look very different.
I think this type of trick should be placed in a different category.
