Would I want to TAS Paper Mario 64? There's a possibility. It's a totally different game in term of glitches and mechanics I guess, so I might not. But anyway, let's just focus on TTYD for now and worry about PM64 later :P

Lua support for the Dolphin emulator itself WITHOUT the need for cheat engine would be nice. Same thing for Ram watch.

Nice! Now that you guys are on Chapter 5/6, there's cannons there, right? Do you think it's possible that with careful positioning, the cannons can be skipped without changing into paper form?

Wow you guys are whizzing through this. I've been getting so hyped I thought I'd play through the game again so I could actually remember what happens in the cutscenes, but you're actually TASing the game faster than I'm playing it.

I've just remembered something. You know the badge shop keeps the badges you sold to it, right? Well, how many badges can it keep? Also related is how many badges can you own at one time?

As far as I know there is no limit to the number of badges you can own. If there is I never hit it, but I never really went badge farming either. On the first approach to Creepy Steeple you use Flurry to blow down a haystack (~4:38 on YouTube), then switch to Yoshi while you're going through the 2d path on the next screen. My question is, would switching in the background (like you do after pushing the rock) be better, or does it not matter?
<Zurreco> if so called professional players cant adapt to every playing field, theyre obviously not that great

I'm not sure where Kirby got that number from (probably when getting the Ruby Star), but we are 32 minutes and 5.16 seconds ahead of the WR from entering chapter 5. I do believe cannons can be skipped without going into paper mode, but I can't say for sure yet. kwinse, There's actually a reason I don't switch Yoshi right away. Using him immediately in the room with the Dayzee isn't faster. So, it actually doesn't matter. But, I switch partners after I come out of the crack because it actually cancels out Mario's transition out of it, if you understand.

Great stuff here... one of the most enjoyable TASes I've seen in a while. Chapter 4 is probably my least favorite to play, but going that quickly makes it tolerable, and the second half of this video is probably my favorite part yet... kept me guessing. Question: why do you transform into a roll in the section with the three goombas before the fallen tree? I would have assumed jumping through that screen would be faster (though I'm sure it's not :D).

Jumping gives a max speed of 2.6775 whereas rolling will give you a speed of 3.09/3 (it alternates every other frame lol). Therefore it's faster to do it earlier.

So then why don't you roll more often? Is there an overhead in the transformation? Harder to avoid enemies?

If we have Yoshi (we didn't when we lost to Doopliss), it's much much faster to use him instead. The transition into paper mode takes much more time as well. Most of the time, if the room is small, tube mode will lose time because it starts off at a slow speed and gradually goes up to 3.09.

@25:32 of the encode, what was the issue with going off on the previous gap before it?

Still looking great. Out of curiosity, do you know how many of those Crazy Dayzees could spawn Amazy Dayzees? And how would you go about manipulating them to spawn if you wanted to?

We're able to jump the 1st frame Mario unfolds. This gives him a speed of 2.25. If we go through the gap before it, we have to wait for Mario to entirely unfold or walk to the pipe and jump in paper mode at a speed of about 1.19. Otherwise we cannot do the 1 frame jump and make it to the pipe.

I am not quite sure how to manipulate them, sorry.

Sorry about that. We've been debating getting Flavio: If you talk to Flavio midway through Chapter 5, he'll come with you on a sidequest. If you continue the main game instead of completing the sidequest, he will follow you for the entire game, with hilarious results. But we ended up deciding to go for fastest time instead, since getting Flavio takes about an extra half minute. The 100% WR for the game (13:02:56 by Almolicious) collects Flavio, so if a 100% TAS is ever made, I think it should collect him as well (since 100% won't be nearly as interesting as any%). Anyway, we've finished the first part of Keelhaul Key.

My bad, it wasn't a sidequest. I'll elaborate. Our route sails to Keelhaul Key and gets Bobbery as a partner and then leaves through the blue pipe, which we opened up with the Fish Glitch right before leaving Rogueport. But before leaving Keelhaul Key through the blue pipe, you can take a small detour (which takes about half a minute) to go to the main area of the Key to talk to Flavio about helping open the way to the Pirate's Grotto. At the end of this series of speech bubbles, Flavio joins your party "for a short time!". However, the game programmers never expected you to leave the island with Flavio in your party, so you can freely take him with you through the pipe and throughout the rest of the game. Among the "hilarious results" are Flavio being randomly pasted on the screen in certain cutscenes, following Peach and Bowser, and falling through the credits at the end.

^ Given the TAS is completely incomparable to non TAS times right off the bat due to the TAS-only movement, why not have some fun~?

I should also add that it appears that he lags several cutscenes. Go for it if you want to, it would be hilarious :) Here's the highlights from the 100% run, in order to prove that it's hilarious: (1) http://www.twitch.tv/almolicious/c/2893347 (2) http://www.twitch.tv/almolicious/c/2893446 (3) http://www.twitch.tv/almolicious/c/2893412 (4) http://www.twitch.tv/almolicious/c/2893484
