Did you know that the Rain Flush has an effect in PharaohMan's stage that it doesn't have in the NES game? When you use it in a sandy area, it hardens the sand so you don't sink into it (although I think it still slows down your slide), and it stops the digger things from appearing. So beginning with ToadMan may still be a possibility. We'll see. I think I'll shift plans a bit and start testing the later levels to see if Beat helps and if I'll run into any energy shortage problems, since this game doesn't refill your weapons at the ends of levels after the first four. Right now I'm working on a movie that starts with a password that takes me to the first Dr. Wily stage with Beat obtained. I think I'll use nine units of Pharaoh Shot on the satellite dish and finish the level with the Mega Buster, since I'll probably want to save some Pharaoh Shot for later.

All right, I'm just going to start with ChargeMan and see how it goes. That seems like the best choice for now.

I completely forgot about Rain Flush's effect on the sand. This might make up for the time lost in Toad Man's stage... I didn't bring up the game not refilling weapon energy (I thought of it when I was testing the 2nd wave of bosses) because I thought it was possible to manipulate energy pickups. Is that possible in this game?

Yeah, it's possible, but it's a little harder to get the bigger refills to appear. I think the main issue will be with refilling Pharaoh Shot, and I might also run into trouble with Ring Boomerang, Power Stone, Rush Jet, or Ballade Cracker. And now I'm not so sure that it would be worse to start with StoneMan. His weapon is pretty strong against ChargeMan. I think I may just do a series of mini-runs against all the bosses using different weapons to see what saves how much time.

You're serious? There's actually a weapon named ''ballade cracker''? My god. And I thought that Pharao Man, Guts Man and Toad Man were awful. The secret Robot Naming Committee strikes again.

Well, yeah. You get it from Ballade to use in Dr. Wily's space fortress. It's quite powerful. And don't forget that Freeze Man had the Freeze Cracker. I find that name much funnier.

I started a new run that currently has PharaohMan and RingMan beaten, since I still find it very unlikely that a run starting with ToadMan can save any more time. Here it is: http://www.filespace.org/BagOfMagicFood/Mega_Man_4_U.zip

I just noticed a mistake or two near the end of the level, so now I seem to be 5 frames faster: http://www.filespace.org/BagOfMagicFood/Mega_Man_4_U.zip

Oh sorry, I updated it one more time to save 3 frames... Okay, this time I'm really going to move on to ToadMan.

Actually, I just found a way to improve it by another 11 frames, but I think I'll hold off on updating until I finish ToadMan.

Well, ToadMan's level is almost done, and I think it's turning out all right. I just need to figure out how to time all my Ring Boomerang hits on ToadMan. See, he jumps whenever I press the B button, so I can try to manipulate his jump timing so that he's not as high when his invulnerability wears off.

That wasn't so bad. http://www.filespace.org/BagOfMagicFood/Mega_Man_4_U.zip (now with ToadMan) I don't have a solid plan for BrightMan yet, though. Ring Boomerang beats the gumball machines in only 6 hits, and any of the special weapons might be good for hitting the enemies earlier, but I don't know if it's worth switching. I'll obviously want to use the Rush Coil trick for the first platform section, although I don't know how soon I should switch back. And it turns out that it's actually slower to fight BrightMan with Rain Flush than with the ol' Meggy Bustor, so I may not get around to using Rain Flush at all. I might just use all my Pharaoh Shot energy on BrightMan, since it charges up faster.

Yeah, I just had to remember that his eye stalks were a platform, and I could safely land on the second one...

Is it faster to get hit by the gumball machines than to kill them?

In some cases it is. I'll need to experiment with that.

Whoa, I just remembered that I recently found a way to fire a small Pharaoh Shot while charging another one. I should test this to see if it's useful in battle.

Okay, it's saving some time against RingMan. I'll just perfect that battle, and then I'll redo ToadMan.

Hmmm... I thought I was getting close to beating BrightMan, but now it seems I won't be able to finish before leaving for vacation today. Oh well, I guess it'll have to wait.

Okay, I started working on this again. I just have to do the fight against BrightMan, and then you can all see it.

Yay, now that level's done. http://www.filespace.org/BagOfMagicFood/Mega_Man_4_U.zip There might still be room for improvement in the battle, but we can think it over while planning the rest of the game.
