Guilty Gear is a animed styled fighting game by Arc System Works that features some instant kill moves that end a whole fight, Command for charging moves, and various combos.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: PSXjin v2.0.2 svn0
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes damage to manipulate luck
  • Heavy luck manipulation
  • BIOS:SCPH1001.BIN

Comments

This run aims for the fastest time. Using an instant kill move that has a chance with luck manipulation not to miss. It doesn't seem to work well with certain characters, so these fights had to be done normally. Ky Kiske was picked because he had the fastest overall instant kill animation along with some acceptable damage combos and resets.

Stage by stage comments

I'll go over the most prominant stages where there might be some questions.

Chipp(Stage 6)

This guy couldn't be luck manipulated for whatever reason to land the move on him, so this is the first one we had to take on normally. I did a jump in on round 2 because he was going to do a different move that i couldn't interrupt.

Sol(Stage 9)

I paused at the beginning to manipulate the AI to stay in place and avoid a super jump if i were to press up normally.

Testament and Justice (Stage 10/11)

I had to change up my tactics for these two because for whatever reason i couldn't land the reset in the air combo. Again these 3 (Sol, Testament,Justice) couldn't be luck manipulated whatesoever to land the move on. We've spent days trying to crack all and Chipp too. Overall this was a pretty fair run. Although i wish we could've got them all.

  • There is cheat code for the harder difficulty but it seems to be the only way to obtain is the load the PSX boot while pressing the code. Costing at least 20 seconds of time.

Most fighting games TASes are really boring, that's because the fastest way to finish them is repeating the same combo over and over. Or in this case the Destroyer. I think showing more of the charge infinites, some clashes and the supers would be better than just finishing the game as fast as possible. Also you should totally show Baiken, since the requirements are really insane because Justice cheats like crazy. I mean spamming the laser super every time he gets in the yellow? Unfair.

Not bad. This is a cool fighting game, but running it for speed takes out most of the fun. I did like that the game displays special move lists before fights, but that's not enough to get this out of Vault territory. My vote is Meh. A playaround of this game, though, could be spectacular.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) I find it hard to believe that the Sol fight in particular couldn't be done better. There's almost a full second of just pushing against him even after the 'pause for manipulation.'

It's mainly because he would block everything until a certain frame and i didn't want to lose my position in any way. If i did other approaches it would be slower and leave a chance for him to get away. Making a wild goose chance that is not needed.

That's the beauty of TASVideos. You don't have to find it hard to believe, the emulator and the authors' movie file are there for you. Run the movie up to the beginning of the Sol stage and find the improvement yourself if you think it can be done quicker.

Sorry for the late reply. The Destroy move is an instant kill move but can be evaded if you mash fast enough.

These are called Destroy attacks. Who got hit by this skill will lose 2 rounds in immediately. Initiate one by pressing Punch+Kick when fighter is close to the opponent. The screen will turn red. Press Qcf+Punch+Kick and fighter will perform their special instant kill. The important: This's a move have 2 hits. The second hit can dodge anytime (attacking, getting hit, stuned), and it can't connect to any combos or hits,

It's important to note that in this initial installation of the series, Instant Kills can actually be countered. During that time when the screen is tinted red, the victim of the IK startup can do qcb,P+K to cancel out the attack and return to neutral state to continue fighting. During this red-screen, both players can mash their IK attack or defense command, and whoever inputs it more gets their desired result out of it. (Or maybe it's based on input speed. Never been entirely sure.) Obviously AI does it slightly differently, and I'd guess each opponent has a number of "counter inputs" to pass in order to successfully Instant Kill, and Testament and Justice can receive the IK initial attack but will always successfully counter it. I suppose Chipp is the same way, apparently! Also I second the motion for an inclusion of Baiken. This still had a pretty good showing of Ky's combo potential, so this is a Yes from me.

I don't know how about with real players (didn't play this game in real life), but with AI, I was work on per frame for make sure fastest. AI don't need press button for do actions, then they don't care about speed for inputs :D

It's true, and in fact I'm surprised/impressed that you managed to have the red screen up for such an incredibly short time when performing an IK. Back when I played the game with a friend that was always the most intense full second of any match, but it's way less than that here. My childhood is a lie!

Hello. I feel a little silly, having registered just to post this, but I adore this series and this game in particular, and felt I could add something to the conversation. (Also I kinda thought I'd already registered at some point, but apparently not.) I know playarounds are generally favored for fighting game TASes here, and I fully agree that they're more interesting to watch. Guilty Gear in particular has pretty amazing TAS potential, and a few players on Nico have already helped to realize it. Here are some playaround TASes by a Japanese player going by pifyty, to highlight the kind of things that are possible, and maybe spark some ideas for a new run that could be published here. Thanks Circuitous, those are pretty great videos! I think they're a little long for a great playaround (especially with a couple matches that knock Baiken really high in the air), but they show a lot of potential. My favorite was probably the Millia one, given all the planning and aiming of large hair projectiles. Also, the Ky video shows that it IS possible to land the Destroy move on Justice, though I don't know whether it would save time to get it to land in the way this video does.
