I started a save-state run of this game that I've been playing since I was a child and I found interesting enough stuff to consider making a movie so I went for it. It's an action-adventure-rpg game that takes you on a quest to claim a kingdom from some evil king, the game, if played without cheating is hard as hell unless you do certain tricks that allow you to have super strenght or being inmune to almost any attack. I will only use the super strenght one as it is the only thing you need to flash through the game, at first I tried is to get straight to the final boss without taking any quest but there's no way to do it, you need to get at least 3 of the game's quests done in order to advance, in this movie I cover about 60% of the game in 53 minutes, if all goes as expected, it won't last more than 20-30 more minutes, but it won't be in the near future. Although playing the game is fun watching the movie is a pain in the rear so use it at your own risk XD. The movie can be downloaded here:http://usuarios.lycos.es/amstradpics/

Anyone thinking doing that game? No, not me because I didn't play that game very much but I think it's a cool Genesis game.

Wasn't this discussed in another thread? Atleast I've seen it mentioned in some other thread.

Maybe someone could continue what is already done, if I recall correctly, there's only 3 things left to do, get to the last town, talk to someone, retreat a few towns, buy a 50000 kim key the slay the last boss.

Topic-bumping madness! I remember seeing a run that was basically "cursed-sword trick, get your rings stolen, get ALL of them back (despite never having them in the first place), go to final boss". It was both spiffy and short. Alas, my search-fu is too weak to find it again.

I just reuploaded it, be warned though, it's the most boring thing you'll ever watch.

Thanks Jackic. You are right, it's not the most interesting movie. The strength bug was nice, though.

A classic action RPG, where you must collect rings and kill the bad guy who killed yo' papa. Quite early in the game, there is a way to increase dramatically your strength with a Dark Sword glitch, which puts your strength at 1500 http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/70305115/Sword%20of%20Vermilion.gmv I'm right after the first cave. So far, I haven't found a way to avoid/delay fights, other than walking inside towns - I haven't found the battle RAM yet

Another classic Sega RPG with an exceptional soundtrack! Janus, as a small speed/entertainment trade-off, have you considered using torches (or the 'luminos' spell, later on) to illuminate the dungeons? IMO, the mostly black screen during dungeon scenes doesn't offer much to visually engage the viewer. Other than that, good luck with the run!

I might consider it if I get enough kims to buy it, but it wasn't the plan. I know it's not appealing, but DQ 1 did it in the dark too.

first battle mechanics found: how many foes you kill in a battle determines when is the next battle and which enemies will be there. I can just manage to get the dark sword...

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1508158439/Sword%20of%20Vermilion.gmv A (very sloppy) test run up to the first boss (fast-forward it to make it more tolerable). So it IS possible to be at low level (3 for me) and get to the dark sword alive. I just need to calculate how much money I need (by considering the death warp too) so I only fight the necessary monsters

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1200501632/Sword%20of%20Vermilion.gmv I was FINALLY able to conquer the 1st boss, after a lot of calculations and estimations. If my feelings are right, I might be able to skip the next quest as I have no ring to get. And at 1500 strength (next time I level up), I should be OK

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1405989726/Sword%20of%20Vermilion.gmv Yup, I was able to skip (for now at least) the elderly village. The death warp and super strength are very practical. I will check on rerun if I need to stop by deeptale to get the truffles (I needed to stop in Parma to get the treasure)

Looking tighter! Would it be faster to fight the Dog Kobolds (4 EXP) in the very beginning, instead of the green (1 EXP)/blue (2 EXP) slimes? Even the skeletons (8 EXP) give out considerably more, although they'd likely take longer in battle to kill. I love the visual of the Dragon being defeated in one shot. [Measures up for a big swing...BAAAAM!!]

It might be possible, but they are much stronger (and I suck at level 1). I will have to try

Ah sword of vermillion, such a terrible game, but I can't help but have a soft spot for it. That wip isn't too bad, but I have a few questions: 1) Do you get experience from killing enemies even if you escape? 2) If no, is it plausible to manipulate a lower encounter rate, since the encounter rate seemed pretty high at the start. 3) Can you explain how the dark sword glitch works?

1) yes. You will notice I level up after escaping Kobolds en route to Parma 2) encounter seems to be related to how many enemies I kill. It looks even more hellish than Paladin's Quest 3) I equip the sword/heal the curse 3 times, and for some reason my strength rolls over. After the 3rd time, I can equip the bronze sword and get 2755 strength. At the next level up, it goes down (and stays) at 1500 and increases as I equip different swords (I doubt I will). I can basically defeat any regular enemy with one hit, and bosses very quickly (let's see how the little girl in Keltwick stands it)

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/842882211/Sword%20of%20Vermilion.gmv about to go back to Stow to confirm that the doctor healed the people (I need that in order to advance). I will need at least 2 gnome stones, and probably no griffin wing (I thought I could select my village...) Maybe a death warp back to Keltwick?

Unfortunately, the Griffin Wing only lets you teleport back to the previous town. The Aries spell, however, allows you to pick your destination (though costs 9000 kim). Not sure if you're familiar with the website, but rpgclassics has a great resource for Sword of Vermilion. It could help out a bit with routing. http://shrines.rpgclassics.com/genesis/sov/index.shtml

it was my main source of information, thanks. So I will look into getting the spell.. I will also try the one hushing monsters; the ruby brooch (which I can get in the area) isn't worth much
