Yesterday, August 11th, 2014, we lost a comedy legend due to an apparent suicide. He played many great roles in many great movies such as Good Morning, Vietnam, Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting, and so on. R.I.P.
So yea, how's it going? Currently TASing: Nothing

That's really sad. Loved Jumanji, and also Insomnia, where he played a real villain.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

When I first read this I was so shocked I was speachless for minutes. Always been a huge a fan of his serious roles. RIP. :(

At 9:30, American TV network MeTV plays Happy Days. Ordinarily, they air shows in the same order they originally aired, but last night, they silently changed plans and aired the episode that introduced the world to Mork. This news, more than almost any other celebrity death I remember, saddens me the most. He truly was fun.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

It's sad that someone who brought so much fun and joy to the world would suffer from drugs and depression. He deserved better.

On Network Ten Australia they played Mrs. Doubtfire from 7:35 to 10:07 (AEST). This pushed back Under the Dome and they removed Save with Jamie and NCIS. The Project dedicated their time talking about Robin Williams. Asking others what their best memory/movie/other of Robin was they brought it up to other people during different segments, like talking to the latest Doctor from Doctor Who. and asking Peter Capaldi at the end of his segment what his favourite thing was. Genie, you're free. Edit: Also during The Project they mentioned a few times within the show if you are thinking about committing suicide or graving depression to call Lifeline. Lifeline is suicide prevention number (for the uninformed).

And also Mork & Mindy. I just hope that it wasn't suicide.

Much as I liked the deceased, this is the correct stance to take.

Of course people die. Everybody knows that. Nevertheless, it can be tragic. Let's be rational, but also sympathetic. I think it is a good thing to talk about death occasionally and spend a moment to rejoice the life of those that have passed. I remember seeing Hook as a kid. The movie made me cry once or twice, which is always nice.

So when does the discussion about how to treat depression and alcoholism begin? Are we done waxing nostalgic and ignoring things of actual, potentially life-saving importance?

Please read this article then, if you haven't yet. It's one of the best, if not the best, Cracked ever put out: http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/robin-williams-why-funny-people-kill-themselves/

Thank you for posting that. That is exactly the response I want to see from a death like this: A rational explanation for what happened and why it happened, informing a wide group of people on the possible circumstances so that they can go out and hopefully prevent further tragedies from happening in the future. You're free to be sad, to cry, to look back fondly on his work, or even to shrug and say "Death is inevitable", but you absolutely shouldn't overlook what happened and how it can be prevented in the future.
