So Youtube now shows 720p60 and 1080p60 instead of the regular 720p and 1080p.
Warning: Might glitch to credits I will finish this ACE soon as possible (or will I?)

youtube added some format codes for 60 fps

299 mov 1920x1080 DASH video 3199k , h264, 60fps, video only, 2.09MiB

303 webm 1920x1080 DASH video 1493k , VP9, 60fps, video only, 993.53KiB
not every video gets both h264 and VP9 formats for some reason

The 60 fps support is poor at best. It only works in certain browsers and under certain circumstances, so don't start celebrating just yet.

I would say we should upload the videos in 60fps like we uploaded HD videos when YouTube started to support 720p and 1080p videos, which also didn't work well at the time for most people, because of browser differences. I can watch 60fps videos without a single problem with chrome and HTML5. If the browser isn't compatible yet, the videos run at 30fps, so I don't see a problem there and I'm pretty sure they're keep fixing bugs and stuff, just like it was when HD support got implemented. And someday 60fps is completely normal on YouTube just like HD is now.

I have only tested 4 browsers so far: http://imgur.com/a/PjkEs It appears Chrome 38 and Internet Explorer 11 support 60 FPS in HTML5 mode. Firefox and Opera do not support 60 FPS with the HTML5 player. And of course the flash player is limited to 30 FPS on all browsers. Tested on Windows 8.1 64bit Edit: Added Safari for Windows test! Edit2: 2560x1440 60 FPS is not supported. There is also no option for 2560x1440 30FPS since 60FPS overwrites all 30FPS versions of a video.

Another thing. Uploading 4k60fps doesn't work, did 3 versions. 30fps worked wonders. Yay, failure. I was expecting from YouTube 4k/1440p30fps and 1080p/720p60fps when uploading, but complete failure works too.

Are you sure? I've done some research and it seems it may work if you enable "media.mediasource.enabled" and "media.mediasource.ignore_codecs" (more info http://www.ghacks.net/2014/07/25/enable-mse-h2-64-support-youtube-firefox-right-now/), but for me on Windows 7, it doesn't work. Can you post a screenshot with stats on to show it?

Oh, wait, you mean the 1280/720p60 options. Yeah, they don't show up. I was talking about the 2x speed videos, and I still can't figure out whether or not it's just a placebo.

I uploaded a couple test videos. Check them out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BYpX3QNnTQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GjyvPAiZYk The first one is 1024x896, and the second one is 768x720 (slightly letterboxed). Both of them are 60fps HD, but youtube is showing them as 480p60 instead of 720p60. wut? Afaik, 480p can't even run as 60fps on that site. If my videos' height are higher than 720 pixels, then they're supposed to show as 720p60. There's absolutely nothing wrong with my videos, so it's youtube's fault. Does anyone know what's going on?

FWIW, I'm pretty sure we won't officially start relying on that feature yet, since its so weirdly implemented and still looks unfinished. Some modes don't work, some browsers don't work, etc.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Someone had also said(on reddit gopro post) that if you uploaded 60fps in the past you can go in "edit enhancement" and youtube will go in and switch it to 60fps instead you having to reupload again.

79.74% of Windows users use IE and Chrome combined. (required for 1080p60)Source 1.14% of Windows users own a 1440p or 4k monitor. (required for 1440p30/2160p30)Source 1% of people can display 1440p+. Why encode at 1440p+ at all? 80% of people can display 1080p60. Why not create an additional encode?

I've seen a 60fps video uploaded in May, so it at least applies retroactively in some cases. It should apply to the rest once Youtube works out all the kinks. So around 2016, maybe.

Youtube transcodes your uploads. The original file is gone. Saving every 1GB-100GB source does not seem economically feasible.

Do you have a link to the video from May? They released a Playlist in June: "We're starting to roll out video support for 48 and even 60 frames per second. See how high frame rates can make motion-intense videos like these ones even more awesome. Make sure you watch in 720 resolution or higher!"

Sure. I figure as much, but as some have said, apparently some have been able to retroactively make 30 fps sources into 60 fps sources. I can't reproduce that behavior. Uploading new files in 60 fps works, though.

I have not seen proof. That may change my mind.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lktmx5XhrrY Going through other TSC videos (he said he records everything in 60fps so logically there should be other retroactive updates) and found an upload from February at 60fps. It doesn't apply to every video, only a select few, but it's at least working in a small capacity. EDIT: Picture proof in case it's only on my end for some odd reason.

The requirement for IE is Win8+ and IE, so I don't think that's correct.
