Another team update: dekutony dropped out of team 10 (ars4326, dekutony, Samsara), to be replaced by Alyosha.

Today is the 30th day of the competition, which means we are soon approaching the halfway point of the contest. Teams should keep this in mind with regard to the progress of the contest - especially if they at this point have not yet cleared mission 3.

hegyak and BSBIsLeet both dropped out of the contest. Their remaining team member Truncated has joined forces with TehSeven and thelegendarymudkip, filling in the replacement position of Team 7. This means Team 9 is no more. (I'm really hoping the trend of inactive team members having to be dropped out of the contest will go to a stop now.)

Reminder to all teams that the deadline for the contest run is at the end of this month - to be precise, January 31th 23:59 UTC. You have 30 days left to complete your run.

Team 8 (solarplex, arandomgameTASer, Spikestuff) has dropped out of the contest due to internal struggles within the team.

LOL. Can I mention that the time frame for this DTC was a terrible, terrible idea? What with AGDQ and all the other stuff going on this month.

To be exact. Our group fell apart within the first week of the game being announced. Thanks arandomgameTASer Edit: Now since it's over, time to explain stuff. So if you noticed what I wrote above it's "Thanks arandomgameTASer" in tiny text. Why? Well it starts all the way back at week 1. Our team was formed and we started to go through the first level, separately just to see stuff. Solar was busy at the time so he was unable to provide any of his input, only look at mine and Random's. Now by the first week Random was done with the first stage and I was about half way, I found a couple of tricks which Random didn't know about then all of a sudden Random disappears. 3 Weeks in with no contact from Random apparently level 1 was meant to be done, I was still halfway of first level and Solar was still busy. I contacted Mothy-Moth and informed him about a member disappearance with no actually notification about this and we basically waited for his return. Solar was curious on what was happening but didn't hang around long enough. Finally on the 11th Random and I had a dispute on IRC

[2015-01-11 17:06:36] <Spikestuff_> Now I wished I logged that from the start of the convo
[2015-01-11 17:06:46] <Spikestuff_> because of the amount of times I closed out of that convo
Basically after that our team was disbanded and we were out of DTC Here's my input and here's Random's Input TL;DR: 0/10 Would not recommend Random for a contest.

AGDQ was one week long. This contest is roughly 10 weeks long. I can understand AGDQ and such taking off some working time, but I still based the time frame on making sure there was plenty of time to work with. My initial time frame idea for this contest was 6-7 weeks, so the contestants already have nearly a month's worth of extension to compensate. (And Masterjun, who had been doing a lot of AGDQ work both prior and during AGDQ, actually mentioned to me that he liked the time pressure AGDQ added to his DTC work). And yes, I can agree the timing of the contest is not ideal, but at the time I started laying out the groundwork for the contest, it was in a sort of 'now or never' situation where if I didn't do it right then, there wouldn't be any DTC in the foreseeable future, as nobody would host it or even think about it anymore.

The 'team SAD' name has been obsoleted. We now call ourselves...

Speaking as a participant in the contest, I haven't seen the time frame as an issue. Watching AGDQ live was a choice that people consciously made, so they don't really have a right to complain about the timing of the event, especially with VODs being available to watch literally any time they want. The only people who can use AGDQ as an excuse are the people who actually participated in it, so if anyone has the right to say DTC5 has terrible timing, it's them. Actually, I can't really think of any unsuitable time frame for a DTC as long as it's a decent length. I even feel like there could be multiple contests a year as long as someone's willing to run them: Something like 2 months per contest, then a 1-2 month break in between each one? That may be a bit optimistic, though.

<mugg1991> if you climb down a ladder, there's a chance that every 128th frame, if you get hit by a projectile and there are 3 enemies loaded on screen one of which is one of those blue sliding guys, and you happen to have 6 health and haven't paused yet since you booted the game, and you haven't finished a level yet, and you make a somersault and shout "METAL FORCE" and if you paid Nach $100 and if you have brown hair, that the game will glitch up and become ACE-able. Maybe.
Warning: Might glitch to credits I will finish this ACE soon as possible (or will I?)

A final reminder for the DTC5 teams: submission is due Saturday of next week! You have a bit over a week left to finish your TASes. Remember to read the TAS Movie Rules in the first post for information on the ways you can submit your movies. (Really though, just do whatever you want as long as I receive at least one valid movie, and do so in time. The rules are just formalities.) Tips for submission: Make sure you know what Saturday 23:59 UTC translates to in your local timezone, so that you don't end up being inadvertently late. For that matter, just try to ensure to get your submission in early, well in advance of the deadline. There's no need to risk being late unless you really have some work to do still. Also remember that you can resubmit as often as needed, with the last version before the deadline counting.
