Hello guys! TAS Marathon will be happening! http://juniorinc.wix.com/tas-a-thon I have a lot of work to do. I don't have a day set yet but I know it will be on a Friday starting at 5:00 PM EST and going until 9. (Or maybe a Saturday.) I have a few TASes in and ready but there is still a lot of work. It is gonna be a charity marathon BTW. [adelikat]: Edited the topic name to not mislead me when I read it.

The charity will go towards puppy610's pocket money, of course.

Whose TASes do you intend to stream? Your own TASes? TASes from people who sent them to you? Also, will you tell which games the TASes will be of?
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Also only like 3 of that list are finished and ready. Also I need some more music for in between TASes so if you have any of your own music that I can use that would be great.

I'll have you know that I alone own the intellectual property for my TASes and will cease and desist the shit out of you if you stream them

Ok so there has been a new developement. All of my current schedule is finished except The Legend of Zelda. There was a problem in which makes it impossible for me to use that movie so I will use the "all items" run done by TASeditor instead.

Something about using other peoples' work without permission to raise money for "charity" strikes me as just a little bit off. What charity is this for? How do you expect to handle donations, assuming anyone actually donates? What are the incentives for donation? Are you actually going to get permission from any of the runners whose work you're stealing using?

The money literally goes DIRECT to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. And can we please (I am trying to say this nicely) stop being so pessimistic about this.

Hi puppy610, As the representative of TASVideos at AGDQ 2014 and 2015 (and as the representative of TASBot in general), I'd like to make a few suggestions. First, your aim appears to be honorable - you seem to earnestly want to repeat the success of AGDQ but do it for only TAS runs, and you seem to honestly want to benefit charity based on the content of the site you have now. Having said that, your approach so far has been met with a fair bit of resistance because you are not asking people for permission to use their content and you have shown a repeated pattern of rushing into things without taking the time to do proper research and engage with the TASVideos community. I highly encourage you to put a hold on your plans for three months. The reason for this is that everyone just came off of AGDQ and another event so soon would not be well attended. It will also give you time to consider what you are doing, why you are doing it, how you are doing it, and whose content you are doing it with. This leads me to my next suggestion - please take some time to become familiar with the TASVideos community members and build up a rapport with them. Help contribute to an existing TAS, possibly by looking at existing Work-In-Progress and user movie uploads and looking for runs where you might be able to assist them with luck manipulation or something else helpful. Once you have proven that you are a valuable asset to the community, ask individual content creators for permission to use their runs. Then, and only then, should you attempt to organize a marathon. If you do not heed my advice and instead choose to recklessly push forward with setting up your marathon without proper planning, expect substantial backlash from people who do not understand your goals and are upset at your usage of their content. I do wish you the best of luck with your endeavors and I hope you are able to step back and take a deep breath before you do something that could further alienate you from the rest of the community.
I was laid off in May 2023 and could use support via Patreon or onetime donations as I work on TASBot Re: and TASBot HD. I'm dwangoAC, part of the senior staff of TASVideos as the Senior Ambassador and BDFL of the TASBot community; I post TAS content on YouTube.com/dwangoAC based on livestreams from Twitch.tv/dwangoAC.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to keep planning but wait and get deeper into the community.

dwangoAC pretty much said everything I wanted to say, though I do have another piece of advice to add on to it: The marathon needs to be something other than just livestreaming TAS after TAS, as that doesn't really give any incentive to watch. You need to plan something unique, add something that people would only get during this marathon and can't get anywhere else. Even something as simple as asking the TASer to give commentary on the run via Skype would give viewers a reason to tune in... But I'd recommend something a little more unique. Here's an idea I just came up with: You have people sign up to the marathon (removing the permission issue), and you give them a set period of time to TAS games that have yet to be TASed. Maybe a week or a month or so? Once this time period is up, you collect their runs and livestream them all in a row. It needs more fleshing out, of course, but I think it could be interesting if it's well-executed. If enough people sign up and finish their runs, it provides you with a wealth of material for the marathon, and all of that material is brand new, which is a solid reason to watch as even if you're heavily invested in the TASvideos community, you're guaranteed to see something you've never seen before. We're not being pessimistic, we're just being realistic. You need to put a lot of effort into planning something like this, and you may even need a team of people to help put it together and perfect it. It's not something you can just decide to do one day: You have to think about every aspect, even the stuff that isn't immediately obvious. If you want an optimistic comment, I truly believe that a TAS marathon could work, but as I said before: It needs to be well-executed and thoroughly planned out, it needs to bring something new to the table, and it needs a dedicated team behind it to ensure that it goes off without a hitch.

Thanks for the advice! Maybe we could do races of people having like a day to make a TAS and at the end of the day we see who made the best one. Just an idea.

dwangoAC organized a similar competition a few months back: Thread #15743: Speed TAS'ing competition: Make a TAS with a time limit!. It was a speed-TASing competition where the runners were given 2 hours to create a short TAS. If you want to look further at larger TAS competitions, there's currently a Dream Team Contest going on where several teams of 3 TASers are challenged to TAS one game over the course of several weeks. Additionally, there are a few games that have competitions of their own. Super Mario 64 comes to mind. Just saying this to provide you with a few resources or examples to look at.

When you submitted those runs, did you read the part of the submission page that says "By pressing "Save/Edit" you agree to publish this content under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 license." Said license says:
Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 license wrote:

You have no legal stance. You could bully someone into not streaming your TASes, but you would be quite a dick in doing so.

Hm, I thought one of the conditions of having your run published here is that it becomes part of the public domain? If so doesn't that mean they can all technically be used by anyone for whatever purpose, regardless of the authors consent and despite it being kind of a shitty thing to do without it?
Knuckles does, what Sonican't.

Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 license is not "public domain". But yes, once you submit your run to this site, you can't stop other people from doing almost anything they want with it (with the exception of removing the original copyright info). You may politely ask someone to not use the run you submitted in a way you don't like, but you have no legal way of enforcing it. You agreed to the license, so you are stuck with it.
