I just personally find them very stimulating and I get frustrated when I cannot solve them. =( For those unfamiliar with these types of tests, the concept is very simple, there is a grid of nine squares and one of them is missing. You have to pick the right one out of six choices at the bottom. I simply can't find the logical next pick for this one question. Maybe it's one of those questions where you simply "see" it or you don't, no matter how long you spend looking. For some reason this was the first place I thought of to ask. =)

Since most of these question rely on the fact that you have to "add" the first two in a row and the third one is the solution, I just went ahead and assumed this:

Annoying trying to do that test in another language, but I got "Älykkyysosamääräsi on noin 119 , joka on korkeampi kuin 89.7 prosentilla väestöstä"="Intelligence is about 119, which is higher than 89.7 percent of the population". Pretty good. For that particular puzzle, I say Top Right. "Reason": I notice the 2 smaller squares for columns 2/3 are in the same location for a given row, yet always different from column 1. Applying that to the bottom row seems to work, as we have column 1/2 having different small square locations, so we should have column 2/3 matching their locations; which would place them in the bottom right. There is only one such picture with that, the top right option. That would only partially explain it though, so to explain the rest, we can consider the initial squares in the first column, as 'growing', with the adjacent pictures showing progress. Nothing initial in the first row, thus no growth. In second row, we have 1 left square grow, then the other. In the third row, we have the slice of the 2 smaller squares, then 2 larger ones, so we'd need a halfway point, thus a picture with 1 small 1 large, both still pointing downwards. Curiously, the top right option. Feel free to come up with a better solution, but that's what I've got.

Yeah, looks like I'm a little late to the party, but I recommend anyone who is interested in this puzzle try the test themselves. Without that context, it's hard to figure out how they "think". Edit: The below paragraph is kind of wrong. Not entirely though. The cards should be read in three separate rows from left to right. I initially tried to be creative and read them top to bottom or as a grid. Nope. The first two rows establish the pattern and you're supposed to deduce the last card of the last row from that. Edit: I'm not deleting the above text because it's usually right. It doesn't apply to at least one of the questions. It's kind of dumb to strongly establish a pattern and then say, "Aha! Tricked you! This one isn't horizontally based." Most of the questions rely on the following concepts off the top of my head: - Rotations - Reflections - Exclusive or (lines/shapes that are present in one card or the other but not both) - Addition (in the arithmetic sense) - Precedence in overlapping My reasoning on the question posed by NordicAnomaly is along the same lines as Masterjun's and Flip's. I don't think anyone so far has a good explanation for what's going on on the left-hand side of each figure.

Thank you, the upper right one was my initial choice as well. Shows that I'm not completely crazy. My reasoning was that the pattern is vertical which would mean that the lines with squares "flip over" in each step downwards and the squares are somehow added/subtracted or something similar... and that would mean that the top right answer would give the second and third column the same value since it is the mirrored version of the very center square, with the middle right and bottom center being mirrored aswell, and the top center and top right being the same. Dunno if that made sense. But, I made a test just now. Since there is no way to see the right answers, I redid the test with exactly the same answers apart from this one question to see if the result would change. The top right answer gave me a score of 138, while the BOTTOM CENTER gave me a score of 140. Which means that either the test is wrong, or we all are. I can't fathom why botton center is the correct choice though. The square in the very center with uneven big/small squares messes up any sort of calculation I get going (tried counting the squares below the line as negative and the squares above the line as positive and adding them). I guess you can't rule out some sort of diagonal pattern... though that's probably overthinking it. Ugh... I'll try sleeping on it. =)

I guess finding the answers should be part of the test as well... =) Thanks for this though, now I able to see which ones I got wrong... and I understand why they were wrong too. I now understand all of them except number 34, which remains a mystery... 131. It really helps if you understand the xor operation (which most programmers do). I think this is one of the problems with most IQ tests: Your experience affects the result a lot. A person with the exact same IQ but with less experience on such things would score less.

Agreed. It is hard to find a good way of measuring it though. Reading up on the xor operation (which I had no prior knowledge of), I see similarities between the walsh matrix featured on the wikipedia page and question 34 of the first test: Notice the diagonal pattern. Does anyone else see this? Am I completely off or is it a similar system? Edit: Tried making it more obvious. Dunno if successful.

Got 31/35. Feel like I "got" the first 31, and the final four were tough, so that's probably where I went wrong. Didn't double check the answers though.

Got 30/35 questions, or 133 as reported by the test (but you shouldn't believe IQ scores you get online). Got stumped by the same question as everyone else it seems.

a lot of superposition patern + some "turn the paterns"... but the 29 - 32-33-34-35, those fried my brain... still can't figure those.... never thrust an IQ test.

I've finished the first one, result is "Älykkyysosamääräsi on noin 130 , joka on korkeampi kuin 97.7 prosentilla väestöstä". My Mensa HungarIQa test result (offline/IRL) is 130~135, 98% better than others. These online tests used to avoid very complex logic patterns that I saw at offline tests. I also know that official IQ test questions (the very hard ones) have multiple acceptable answer (the exact number wasn't shared with me).
