This TAS is 68 frames(1.13 seconds) faster than my previous run.

Game Objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.2.2
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
  • Genre: Platform
Super Mario Forever(aka. Frustration) is a famous hack of Super Mario Bros. in which there are many very difficult and precise jumps. This hack is easier than Hard Relay Mario and MMM because it only has 4 stages and won't use many glitches to beat the hack.

Stage Comments

1-1
The long fire bar didn't slow me down because I stay away from that fast.
1-2
The trampoline saved me a lot of time, and I didn't want to get the fireworks.
1-3
The easiest stage about Katakana of Cheer Up!
1-4
The hardest stage of this hack. I didn't want to get the bullet bill because it will slowed me down. The stage saved a lot of time because I used more precise glitches to beat the game. The movie file ended at the frame touching the axe. Mario touching the axe and getting hurt at the same time.

Have fun watching!
Sorry, don't speak English...

Noxxa: Rejecting for being a bad hack, as has been mentioned in several previous submissions of this game. As optimized as the run may be, it still does not offer anything over the published run of Hard Relay Mario, a much better hack with a similar "Kaizo" style.

I don't think this is a bad hack because the TAS looks nice.

I'd love to have some kind of TAS repository for Romhacks, but the site probably isn't the right place for it. Maybe there should be a thread on the forum for it.

If only HappyLee were here, then his(?) eventual TAS of this hack would most likely be in Gruefood Delight for obvious reasons. No vote.

I'm thinking along the same lines; perhaps a forum thread would be the best place for these. As for the run itself, it looked well done. My only real criticism is the extra long countdowns at the end, which took away from the otherwise speedy pace.

Good run, MarioUniverseZone. You play well. However, hacks are judged more strictly than official games. If I'm correct, the Vault is less forgiving for hack games; a hack has to also be entertaining enough or well-made enough to gain acceptance. In this way, I'm not sure this hack is worthwhile, especially since you can skip a lot of the stages through the ceiling. On the other hand, I really liked Stage 4 a lot, and the run is short. I'm voting Yes.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

Kaizo-style hacks like this are rarely good TAS material. Dodging hidden traps perfectly is not interesting for a spectator not very familiar with the game. Also, when the route diverges from the intended one, nothing interesting happens for a while afterwards. In addition, I'm pretty sure this TAS does not showcase anything different from other Super Mario Bros. and Lost Levels runs. Voting No.

The inputs looks optimized for me, but the game... Only 4 levels? No other interesting changes in the hack.
World 1-1, go over ceiling entire level World 1-2, go over ceiling entire level World 1-3, too simple level World 1-4, better, but half of level jumping over ceiling / walls - again.
All together, that's just uninteresting to watch. Sorry, voted NO for poor choice of a rom hack. Good effort. Perhaps go for official games that hasn't been done, or obsoleting old published runs.

OK thanks to everyone who voted. But I had a question after submitting: since I put the movie file into ZIP, then the frame count was changed?

It's showing 9087 frames which is... 02:31.20 02:31.15 is 9084 frames according to your video on YouTube. But you stuffed your ending input so... 9068 is 02:30.88 Frame Rate information.

Shouldn't it end at 9084?

That's how you sent it through with extra input and no it should be the one with the shortest time. Because when you went to replay it you added a couple of frames. (See your Rerecord count) The site doesn't read files incorrectly (unless psxjin .pjm)

Gruefood Delight? There's a section specifically for hacks; this would go well there. We have stuff like Kaizo Mario World 1 and 2 there already.

Sorry. Not a good hack nor a fully optimized run, but mostly it's the first reason that doesn't make this run interesting enough. Keep working.
Recent projects: SMB warpless TAS (2018), SMB warpless walkathon (2019), SMB something never done before (2019), Extra Mario Bros. (best ending) (2020).

Yeah, but movies wouldn't have to be submitted to the site first to go there.

Huh? Yes they would, the Gruefood Delight section only lists actual submissions to the site that were rejected or cancelled.

MarioUniverseZone, I think you should work on Super Mario Unlimited or Extra Mario Bros. instead of this. I want more good hack TASes!!! This one not so much, sorry. :(
