Some progress. I picked up Lua last night to help with the run. Unsure if the sprite hitboxes are correct, but I'm just using the addresses found in the actor data and they seem to match well. I don't know if there is additional 'origin' data that I am missing (see #5 in the image).

Found the hitbox stuff. Added more info like invulnerability counter, exact HP amount, and run counter (need 12 for a dash move)

Got hitboxes and enemy health. Here's the Lua script for the HUD if anyone wants: http://pastebin.com/ckBCNGGG It does everything I need it to, so I will probably be starting the actual run soon.

Thanks! I am using the video link you posted earlier as a reference (the routes are very well planned). Without a source input file for that video it's hard to tell if I am saving any frames, or if there are techniques that I am not aware of that were being used. So far, I have found a few places to save a few frames based on what I can observe. Goliath's hitbox is tiny compared to his sprite :)

In the process of doing a bit of path optimization. I think there's a potential for great time savings from what we've already got. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1919612037/Gargoyles%20%28U%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv I really wish the input was posted for that YouTube video so I could compare and maybe learn something :)

I remind about wall climbing trick in the Forge, that wasn't used in some rooms by that YT TASer, but is possible. For example, you can pass the tank part in the 1st room, all the rest rooms must also be tested..

I ripped the spriteless maps here: http://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#Gargoyles If you need very much, I can rip all enemies and items, but it'll take time. SaxxonPike?

Thank you! Will definitely use these for route planning. Just curious, how'd you do it?

How 'would' I do it? Or 'did'?

How did you get the rips? Did you screen capture or dump them directly?

I recorded a movie then switched off some layers, then recorded avi, then used autostitcher. The main trick to record a movie was using a code to fly through all the map by pressing A B С. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGR5PbvFY10&list=PL56690DF60ECAD041

Hi SaxxonPike, are you still plan to make this run? If yes, send me PM - i will uncover you some esoteric knowledges which will help you to create an excellent TAS for this game.

Actually in this TAS the routes are very poorly planned, in many levels tasgensnes not use various timesaver opportunities, a lot of beautiful shortcuts was missed. So it would be a mistake to take this run as a basis. Better take me as advisor, with using proper routes - you will able save at least 2 minutes ahead of this 12:01 TAS. Sub 10 guaranteed.
I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Current projects: NES: Tetris "fastest 999999" (improvement, with r57shell) Genesis: Adventures of Batman & Robin (with Truncated); Pocahontas; Comix Zone (improvement); Mickey Mania (improvement); RoboCop versus The Terminator (improvement); Gargoyles (with feos)

Since SaxxonPike stopped to visit the site, i suppose that he is abandon of this project. So i proposed to feos to pick up this project and together with me make TAS for this game. And he agreed. Here test-run WIP up to 2-3: Link to video And the same video with showing wonderful script by feos: *I use slightly modified "old-style" places for HP/Run/Inv counters. Link to video

Wow, as a Genesis fan I can't believe I've never heard of this game. It looks nice and great for speedrunning. Was that glitch at the end useful or just for showing off? Either way, looking forward to seeing this when it's done.
Current thoughts: Hachiemon (J) for GBA.

It about 3 seconds faster over standard route. So yes, it useful.

Heartless glitch lovers! Yes, in last level is possible to abuse glitch with camera position.

Cool movie for one of the hardest (by boring monotony of acrobatic tricks) game. Glitches makes long level more surprised. Can they be retry in last level?

I second this. This habit is anything but good.
