Likely he had a rejection here, or knows he can't compete, as the slow run shows and he inadvertently admits in boisterous fashion. In the video he comes off as a hard-headed supreme know-it-all loudmouth whose preferences are fact. Haven't seen him anywhere else or talked with him, maybe I'm wrong.
Still, neat PoC. Likely wouldn't go anywhere here but I'd be willing to watch an optimized (edit: DS, see next post) run.
I still need a copy or a donor cart to try verifying any CT runs...
DS version . .. is not . . . .Chrono Trigger tho .. . so . .. . that wouldn't count :p
I was considering a level 1 run, which is how I stumbled onto his video.
I linked the video here before I really watched it, so I didn't realize there were a bunch of errors through out :p
And I skipped the intro. . . so I'm just rewatching it now and I see what you're saying, he talks about adelikat and knocks on LUA and the new emulators.
Still cool.
Actually I didn't get that impression at all. He states his goals and TASVideos' (and SDA's) goals, and notes that they just not align.
An optimized level-1 TAS (without his extra requirements) would be very interesting to see.
You are not asking me and I know you don't like the DS version, but I thought about doing this on that version and defeat Lavos at Ocean Palace, if it's possible.
so basically, this:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes/563538-chrono-trigger/faqs/40169
that was the guide i found a few years back when i first took interest in low level Chrono Trigger.
I thought it was funny, as the community general bans the use of Magus in the Lowest Level Possible run, since. .. he's OP. So i thought it was funny Lorerunner opted to use magus (jokingly calling it "magus trigger")
I'm actually very interested in this branch, but i don't know anything about LUA/memory/RNG so I don't feel suited to approaching a fully optimized TAS of this or any RPG. otheriwse, I could start right now, as I have a console level 1 run up to Magus from years ago.
Magus is hard x.x :p
Fighting Magus at North Cape surely will make the run more unique. Is it still literally impossible to defeat Lavos at Ocean Palace at lowest levels even with Green dream and the equipments from sealed chests?

I wouldn't be surprised. Ocean Palace Lavos spams the "destruction rains from the heavens" attack every other turn, if I recall correctly, and it's a full party wipe's worth of (I think) non-elemental damage even if you're at normal levels. The Green Dream could keep one party member alive through one of those, but I don't think there's enough time to set up Lifeline like that Let's Play does with endgame Lavos. Mostly because you won't have had the chance to get the Speed Tabs you need to get actions fast enough.

lavos's "rain destruction from the heaven" deals damage inversely proportionate to your magic defense. low level defense = massive damage. in that fight he would deal 4000+ damage to crono. NOT possible at level 1.
I don't know about the other site that was linked, but to the best of my knowledge, the lowest-level possible community has put all their hard work into this guide here:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes/563538-chrono-trigger/faqs/40169
if someone can correct me feel free, but if I were going to TAS LLP, I would use this guide, as it is what I have stuck by for all my LLP console attempts :p
"As of now the lowest levels currently possible are:
Crono: 1
Marle: 4
Lucca: 15
Frog : 15
Robo : 16
Ayla : 20
Magus: 37
And this FAQ will explain how to achieve this.
As a rule for sake of maximizing the difficulty of this challenge and
for certain sentiment. Magus should be excluded from any fighting
party and Chrono included wherever possible."

That is such an arbitrary rule.
Not entirely. Magus is OP (he starts at level 37) and Crono always being dead at the end of the battle means less XP earned. Excluding Magus reduces the average level of all the characters. Also, XP is not split up per character (get 1000 xp = 1000 xp per alive character), so more dead characters = less XP earned overall. Placing Crono outside of the party would also easily level him up once (you gain 75% of earned experience out of battle, but with a cap of one level up).
Additionally, if you wanted to make Crono useful during endgame, you would have to pump a lot of XP into him and raise the average level. Other characters start at higher levels, so it makes more sense to pump them up just enough to finish the game.
Starting levels:
Crono: 1
Marle: 1
Lucca: 2
Frog : 5
Robo : 10
Ayla : 18
Magus: 37

Excluding Magus reduces the average level of all the characters.
What does that even mean? Just because you don’t use him it doesn’t mean your average level is lower. So long as he’s unlocked and part of the party, he’ll be a part of the average level.

I believe he means fighting Magus at North Cape instead of befriending him. You can choose to kill him.
I don't know if I should say it again, but getting Wallet at the beginning of CTDS can make this branch much less arbitrary.
