As my avatar suggests, I'm most definitely going to do a time attack on this one. Pretty straightforward platformer, basically a cute superdeformed version of the arcade/Turbo/PCE Splatterhouse with references to every horror movie under the sun. Really entertaining to watch, not really a super hard game but not an easy one by any means. I'd do time attacks on the other ones in the series but alas, Magic Engine and Gens don't do re-recordable movies. Anyone else play this great game?

Someone already did a timeattack of this at speedruns.org, check it out if you can (you have to register to download anything off of there, but it's real quick). Would probably give you a very solid base to work with, seeing as it's such a simple game and all... Oh yeah, and Magic Engine? Funk dat, you should be rooting for MAME rerecording. Turbo/PCE Splatterhouse just ain't the same as the arcade... -Josh

Ah crap, was hoping I could do a speedrun of the game... :( My other idea was Mighty Bomb Jack but I'm sure someone has already done that as well. Also thinking of Omster In My Pocket although it'd be kind of boring to watch, as all the bosses are pattern-based and have invulnerability periods...

Monster in my Pocket is a tough one. The game is too straigthfoward, and the constant barrage of non-stop regenerating enemies makes it difficult to do without slowing things down a lot.

Virulent: Dude, you can still do your own timeattack. I'm sure the one on that site can be improved...from what I remember he loses some time to not get hit in certain areas... -Josh

Including the secret crystal ball. The movie is done, but I'm new and I am not sure about how to submit. Bracey J

The exact running gameplay time is 22:19 This is my first real movie, so I decided to start with a bang and choose the hardest game I've ever played. I hope you all enjoy it! Now how to submit the damn thing...

http://tasvideos.org/ A big "submissions" link is right on the left you silly goose. After clicking submit your own movies, make sure you've paid attention to the guidelines on the top of the page. Look forward to seeing it.

Yea, I see that, but I don't see anyway to upload my FCM or any link to send it to. Here, I'll just link you off my webserver: http://24.211.239.191/Super%20Play/braceyj-splatterhousewg.fcm

Three whole threads for this game! Let's revive the earliest and most sensibly titled one. Link to video User movie #23466553175470218 Most of this was actually done a couple years back, I just finished it up to the start of that first miniboss. I don't know if I'll continue it as of yet. If I did, it wouldn't be right now, but maybe reviving a topic that was started nearly half my life ago will kick up someone else's interest.

I've tried TASing this game before but it puts me to sleep. How much frames have you saved over Diman's published run? When I tried I think I got around 40-something frames before the sewer level where I just threw my hands up and declared defeat.

I haven't actually checked. I think at this very early point there's not much difference between the two runs, if any at all. I'll try to finish the first stage and see how much time I'm gaining from there. It shouldn't be hard to compare the two: Diman's run syncs fine when converted to FM2. There's actually another run someone started from a couple years ago, and I'll admit I only remember it existing because I'd started my own run shortly before seeing this on the Userfiles. It syncs on Bizhawk 1.4.1 if you wanna watch something more up to date than the published run.

Yeah I think the first improvements come from the bookshelf fight where Diman lost a few frames. I thought there was improvements to be found in the thriller dance sequence by killing the enemies faster, but I later discovered its a set timer. No use there.

Yeah, I just finished working on that and I'm 48 frames ahead after being completely even with Diman going into it. At least there are bigger improvements to be had. I remember when I started this, I was going in thinking it would just be a straight re-do with better entertainment and maybe a few frames saved... But I've proven my initial thoughts wrong several times before. EDIT: Wow, this game is a chore. I never realized how many long, forced waits there are even though I've played through the game a few times. Improvement total is up to 58 frames at least. Currently redoing the knife fight in Stage 2 for the fourth time because I'm losing about a second compared to Diman and I have yet to figure out why.

Checking in nearly a month later! I'd have a WIP but I ended up finding a pretty substantial improvement and now I have to resync pretty much half of what I completed I'm lazy. Also that "improvement" ended up making the facehugger fight about 200 frames longer, cancelling out not just the improvement itself but the entire rest of my savings. ...On the plus side, I don't have to redo the entire movie anymore! On the minus side, I still had to redo the facehugger fight. On the plus side, the facehugger fight actually looks good in this version! I'm around 2.5 seconds faster than Diman in comparable areas up through Stage 3. I'm going for the two secret stages and the "best" ending in this run, so this run will be ultimately be a few minutes slower than the published run... But 99% of the published run's route will be in this one. I think maybe 2 rooms in Stage 7 are omitted, and one of them is a direct copy of a room in Stage 3. So there's that. I'll try to have this out by the end of the month, by which I mean I'll procrastinate until the 30th and then finish it all and submit it on the 31st. Then maybe I can get back to other, more interesting projects! EDIT: On second thought, I'll probably have this submitted tomorrow. Maybe later tonight, but most likely tomorrow. Actually most likely still on the 31st because all the rest of the stuff I have to do is about 3-4 minutes of trying to make this game entertaining and that's about as fun as it sounds.

Run complete, currently writing up the submission text. I might submit it with unfinished comments and without an encode if I get too tired before I finish everything up. Final time is 19:11.25, which is a couple minutes slower than the published run, but remember that the secret areas are included in this run. Offhand, I think it's around 300 frames faster than the published run in comparable areas? I'll have a more accurate number in the submission text.

Way to go! I'm not sure if this would obsolete the published run if this one attains the best ending, but it sounds like it'll be a nice addition to the site nonetheless.

Would you like me to encode it for you, to save you the work? I can PM you the link when it's up and you can include it in your original submission text.

I honestly think this would obsolete the published run. I asked in IRC and that seemed to be the consensus there as well. The differences are minimal at best, as I explained a couple posts ago, so I don't think it's enough of a change to warrant having both published.

I've already got it encoding on my end. Thanks for the offer, though! Much appreciated!
