He still has to go through that door to load it, so the second Bowser key is needed. Unfortunately. You should check out the moat skip if you want to see the best chance of a Bowser skip. However that currently needs the wing cap.

You can't open that door, even from the back, without the key.

Is a new 0 star run in the works? It's really sad that the newest one is over three years out of date. The only runs since then have just been done by a few people, and I don't think there's been as much work in the camera angles.

I agree :/ For some reason people are more concerned with not pressing the jump-button

People can be interested on whatever they want, when they want, quite honestly.

It's not even like people are doing ABC instead of TASes. Two of the three main ones doing it don't even do tool assisted speedruns.

I'm curious what's the progress so far for the moat skip. Did anyone managed to make it faster, or is it still faster to kill bowser twice atm?

Hey, there's nothing wrong with that! Just because a new trick was found for 0 star doesn't mean everyone is just going to drop what they're doing and work on it.

Yesterday night I found something interesting by messing up with the spot http://imgur.com/a/eAwDv I definitely didn't know lag frames could've been graphically (and not only I think) different from the previous input frame. Shoutouts to Biz
Looks to me like it swaps and draws the buffers every frame, but doesn't update them if it's a lag frame. So it's just temporarily drawing the previous frame.

So I've still been casually testing out things related to this glitch. I have a couple of questions that might be relevant, maybe some of the more technically knowledgeable people know the answers. If I stand right here on any of the platforms, basically at the peak of the triangle, and stand right up against the wall, mario gets into a state where if I jump, I can't move in any direction while in the air. Also mario can't double jump, and does his diving animation while mario is in the air if you hit B. So why does this happen? Do those small peaks have special properties, like slipperiness? Here is something else I noticed. If I jump from that position and 2 frames later hit B, I will eventually fall off the platform and collide with something behind me that turns Mario around, any idea what this could be? It seems like its in the same spot where the wall above mario at the top platform is. Any ideas what is going on here? I saw some theories about Mario colliding with the peak of the platform above him when he jumps in the glitch video, they do seem to give him some funny properties.

The middle of the boards acts as a slope, so you will not be able to double jump or anything on any of them.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/2s2u6hb3cdkqsql/Super%20Mario%2064%20%28J%29%20%5B%21%5D.st6?dl=0 Here's a savestate, just jump for 2 frames then press B. I noticed something similar happens on the top platform, and Mario gets turned around after he passes the floor. It looks like what is happening is that the game thinks Mario both hit the inside of the wall that represents that section of vertical grating that lines the floor, AND needs to be put on the right side of that wall, but it does the moving first and the collision second. Maybe this type of order of operations error is related to the glitch?

I think you're onto something. If you watch the video, it seems that mario gets ejected from the wall after being vertically warped. He gets ejected into the level, facing inwards. For this to happen, I think the behavior you identified makes a lot of sense. This combined with the ceiling collisions may be what's causing this behavior. *edit* just realized he is ejected while still facing outwards. I still think you may be onto something though.

Does anyone have a Mysterious Mountainside 0x A Presses video other than this one? Link to video Because I believe the one I just made: Link to video is faster. Also, is pannenkoek putting together a run with minimal A presses? Because I'd like to get in on that.

Nice! That looked pretty good! But I don't believe pannenkoek tries to make all his 0xA videos optimal. They're more for just showcasing that it can be done. To quote his ABC route page, "This is by no means the most efficient route; it just shows one potential way to do it." I'm not to sure if he's actually making a run but I hope somebody does it!

Ah I see. Well I'll play around with more levels and see if I can't get some other fast routes. I'd bet that the fastest way to beat the game without the A button would have to collect 70 stars unless there's some glitch I'm unaware of to get through star doors without BLJing. And even then, I'm not sure if you can beat all three bowsers without the A button so I'm not sure it can even be done. But if it can, I'm sure we could all figure it out.

I did one level decently so you could try and beat that.[/shameless self promotion] Sonicpacker did a bit, Plush did a few plus there's the 20 star run. Of course coming up with optimal routes when that hasn't been done before would still be useful for a full run.
