Thanks guys. It will be a hard-type one for absolute Metroid-Masters and I doubt there are many player who would have the skill to beat it on Live conditions.
Well, now. I certainly don't consider myself a metroid-master, but I'm looking forward to giving this a try :)

Those people + practice = easy game. Then they try other Metroid games, and at first those are hard, too, but they use the skills they got here to do those. And those become easy too. It's like that with all skill-based games. So you can always get better with practice... but if you get too good, the only thing left is to create challenges for yourself like "100%" or "minimum" or "timeattack" in order to keep it hard. Having a harder game in the first place is another method.

Or maybe you get tired of the game being hard and want it easier than normal.

There are some hacks that make Super Mario World easier. The one I tried briefly was pretty funny to see - all the enemies were surrounded by unbreakable blocks, lots of new platforms and stairs bridged all the holes, and you could beat the game at full emulator turbo speed by holding right and maybe (I can't remember) jumping a few times. The only challenging thing to do was finding ways to die. A time attack of it would probably end up being a parody of time attacks.

Err.. A qick hack you say Saturn? I hope you don't focus that much time on it right now, but instead focus on the time attack. ;) I'd gladly play a super metroid hack if it's good and just not some sprites that have been changed. I want a completly diffrent world to run arround in, and perhaps other quests and stuff like that. That would be awesome.

There will be some new quests but of course I don't have the time to make completely new locations and graphics. Instead I just modify most of the existing rooms by adding more blocks that force you to go another (harder) route. I will also change some Item-Locations and doors for good rooms to not let you get the usefull stuff too early. Additionaly if it isn't hard enough that way I will maybe even increase the enemies HP and their damage to you by twice. I have to think and test everything to be sure that you don't get stuck in the game, and that everything works by plan. Maybe I'm done in a week. Don't worry, I won't lose the focus on the timeattack, but hacking is more interesting for me right now. I also got a new idea in a new route by discussing with some Metroid experts to save even more time. Now (if I'm not terribly wrong) I'm dare to believe reaching a sub 20 min run is a realistic thing!

Sub 20? Even I (a positive person) am skeptical about it but you will raise hell if you succeed!

I'm assuming that's using the game time, right? I can see that as being possible, but still a very lofty goal.

Ok.. Thats it! You are not allowed to sleep for more than 3 hours per day. You are not allowed to go outside. You are not allowed to do anything but to crunch that game now! :D A sub 20 run. Make some proof! :D I'm not mocking you if thats what you thought. This is more a way to scream "WOW!" and to give you some motivation. Damn. If you succeed with that you could easily get an award or something for best movie of the year. :)

Yes its a very risky statement, but as I said it is just a thought of me. I'm still not sure which route will be the fastest. There are thoughts of skipping the Plasma Beam at all and fight Ridley before Draygon on the way you get the Speed Booster and Wave Beam which will cut down the route immense because you don't have to return to Norfair again later, but the Ridley and Mother Brain fights will take much longer time because Spazer is 3 times weaker than Plasma and to calculations this 2 fights will be about 3 min slower that way. The question is, are this 3 minutes still faster than going the normal route with it detours but have Plasma instead. Highness: I understood what you mean, but I highly doubt I can complete the run this year anyway... It requires to much testing and with the additional route-unclearness for now there is even more work to find the best out.

Aww man.. No new super metroid run this year. :( You could probably cut down testing time if you had a savestate hacker or something?

I don't think any program could help in testings. I have to test every variation that comes in question and is hard to calculate myself, and notice the ingame-time count. I will be very busy in the next months, so there is not much time left for speedrunning but I will for sure complete his run slowly step by step and least there will be still some WIPs this year.

The hack is to about 60% complete. I break my head by planing the route and by decide where to place which items and on which time to make access to them. I will also insert some traps and instant-death situations you have to pass... It will be that hard to beat that I really doubt if someone except Smokey, Red Scarlet or any other undiscovered Genius would manage it without tools, or only after very much time spent by practising. You'll see!

Think we would in first hand look into your run/WIP rather than your hack. Dont really understand why you seem to lay more time and effort on it rather than your run.

I just need a change between speedrunning... Plus I only recently discovered this possibility to hack, and I honestly always wanted to make a Hack for Super Metroid even as a child 10 years ago already, since it was one of the most fascinating games for me. I was always very good in making labyrinths and deep Plannings, and this game gives me the perfect possibility to add them in a hack. I promise that I will continue on the run after I do this hack, just give me time.

I understand but why can't you do it AFTER your run?

Because a run for this game will take me at least 4 months to complete and a hack maybe 2-3 weeks. Faster things first especially if I got such a interest for that currently. Also for a run I need a clear mind to see/find improvements imediately which I don't have right now.

Actually I'd prefer to try the hack first, just because it'll take much more time and interest to beat a new game than to watch 20 mins of someone else's gameplay. :) Please proceed with your work, Saturn, and don't forget to inform us about the updates. Good luck tou you!

Hmm.. A hack might be good to develope because you might find out new things that you didn't know previously. But I still think you could work on both hack and run at the same time. :)

It's very bad to work at the same time, trust me. In a run I have to concentrate on every single room and its possibilities, in a hack I need to get a complete picture of the entire game and all areas it has, to see the entire route you have to pass playing the hack. I'm about to add the Grappling Beam and I'm still not sure in which location. I also have to make sure that you can't skip any mini boss like the Spore Spawn and for this I have to add items after this bosses which are required to pass to the next area and this becomes harder and harder since after I get the Missilies and the PowerBombs I can basically open every gate. That means I have to invent new blocker (not just doors) and the needed items to open them behind the later bosses. Not easy... Also you must be able to pull off the MockBall, perfect Walljumping bomb-climbing and much more hard moves over and over to pass this hack. Without them you are lost, so practise them now if you look foreward to play this hack. I also make sure that none of the glitches we know today will work in my hack, so forget passing the zebetitis, the green gate glitch, and other of this kind :-)

i watched the tool assisted run, and i was wondering just how he/she(sorry, dunno which) would do a shinespark without actually running?
