Alyosha has earned his first 1500 player points in record time through his insane ability to pump out optimized movies like there is no tomorrow. He has tackled several platforms and collaborated with a few players, beating adelikat's previous record of 20 movies published within a calendar year. All of this with a humble spirit. Thank you very much for creating such an incredible amount content for our enjoyment, Alyosha. We all know you deserve 2015's newbie of the year award even though you aren't eligible.

Hmm, the submission date for most (if not all) of those movies is 2007. We had a conversation on IRC the other day about who held the record. Part of the reason I made this topic was so someone who is willing to do the grunt work finds who has the actual record.

I wanted to chime and say that Alyosha has done just outstanding work this year with all of his submitted runs. Granted, it didn't beat the all-time annual submission record; but from a more current day optimization standpoint, that's still a big achievement. Congrats to ya, Alyosha! It was a pleasure teaming alongside you and Samsara, earlier this year. Maybe Mission InTASible™ can reunite someday down to road for another big run!

Many of these movies predate the automatic submission system that is in use today, which is why the submission date is only later (and by NesVideoAgent instead of the actual author). The movies/publication dates are correct, so they are indeed all from 2004.

Kind of rude to the person that will actually get it, don't you think?

Shouldn't this thread be moved to general or something? It's in topic, isn't it?

Nah, this year's contenders are clever enough to understand what I mean by that.

It's hard to compare submission amounts in 2004 compared to 2015. While some people did indeed a lot of commendable work back then, the TASing world was rather different back in those days. There weren't but just a handful of TASes published, and plenty of unTASed games for the NES (and a bit later to other platforms), so you had a lot to choose from, and almost no competition. Standards and rules of admission were not as developed back then as they are now. While some principles remain, it can arguably be quite different (something that was accepted then might well not be accepted today. Although to be fair, also vice-versa.) Tools were also a lot different back then. It's easy to look at the raw numbers, but the circumstances were a bit different. (Again, not to undervalue anybody's effort and work. I'm just trying to be pragmatic.)

If the topic were about comparing TASing/TASers from a decade ago to TASing/TASers of today, that would be more suited to General. Warp's post actually brings it the closest to General. I guess if people continue following that discussion, I can re-title the thread and move it back to General to live as a legitimate discussion thread.

wow, thanks for the show of support Zeuper : ) much appreciated! I pretty much agree with Warp on this one, comparing now to 10 or even 5 years ago isn't particularly meaningful, especially with the emergence of Bizhawk and TASEditor. About the only way someone could beat the submission / publication record nowadays is if they specifically set out to so and planned maybe 2 years in advance, at which point it would be a pretty artificial record. But anyway, onward to 3000!

I agree, considering the standards of 2004 the sheer amount of output Alyosha's been having is crazy. You've done good work this year :)

NES TASer of 2015 for sure! It's really amazing how many games you optimized, Alyosha. You should try to go for handheld stuff as well! Also, shoutouts for naming yourself after the main character from one of my favorite books :)
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

Congrats Alyosha. I’m here since 2009 and haven’t even submitted a single solo TAS yet.
