In this game, a terrorist group have overrun an embassy in Paris. The player takes control of a six-man GIGN team on a mission to free the hostages. “Mission Jupiter” is the most difficult mission in this game. The game is split into two distinct sections:
  • In the first part of the game, the player must bring three men into position so they can snipe the building. While doing so, the men must avoid the searchlights by diving for cover in doorways, windows and behind fences as well as rolling, crawling and running. If the player is caught in a searchlight, the sniper is gunned down.
  • The second part involves entering the building with the other three men. The player's men abseil down the side of the building to choose which room to enter from, while the snipers who were positioned earlier can be used to shoot the terrorists through the windows. Then the building must then be searched, shooting the terrorists and finding the hostages in the process.
So,in the first part, Mike, Steve and Jumbo all have to move it all the way to their sniping positions. Unfortunately, they have to walk there in full view of the embassy and its searchlights. In fact,as long as any of the three of them arrived in any sniping positions, can complete the mission of the first half. The distance from the Jumbo to the first sniping positions is the shortest. In this case, Mike and Steve have to suicide to save time. In the second part, controlling Jumbo to aim at the embassy is a waste of time. Here need to control the second half of my team, Ron, Dick and Kemco, only one of them to along the walls down into the embassy. The embassy has a total of three storeys,there are 40 terrorists and 3 hostages in it.What I have to do is to kill all the terrorists and rescue the hostages in the shortest possible time.

ars4326: Hi again fcxiaopengyou. All in all, this is a nice, quickly executed run. The pace especially picks up in the hostage building, as the SWAT member starts rapidly picking off targets, throughout the three floors.
As for the decision to run single stage (mission JUPITER), I researched on YouTube and noticed that multiple runners (e.g. a Longplay, a "no deaths", and a longplay tool-assisted run) all did the same. So that seems reasonable enough for me to warrant approving it here. And since it's the most difficult stage, I'm going to go ahead and remove "Mission Jupiter" as a branch name (leaving it as any%). Nice work :)

Nice run. It's pretty funny to see how you make two guys commit suicide in the first phase, and then the second phase feels like an early version of Doom. However, I'm curious about two things. 1) Is this game publishable with just one mission completed? If there's a different ending obtained by completing all the missions, then that may disqualify a single-mission run. 2) What does the part mean at the end about "Disaster!!"? Does that mean the game isn't actually done?
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... Thank you! 1)The Mission Jupiter is the most difficult mission in this game. The player must complete it within 10 minutes. And there are more terrorists shooting very fast who are not shown in the game map. While the other missions are much easier.Whichever mission is completed, the result will always be the same. 2)The end is not the best one because we lose two members, Mike & Steve. If all members are alive, it can be a good ending. Like that:

Glad to see a TAS for this game! I played the heck out of it back when I was a kid. I would like to suggest though that a completed/accepted run have all agents + hostages survive in order to get the best ending... mostly because I'd love to see the spotlight dodging portion TAS'd. It would make it much more entertaining, as well. Sniping is less important, though I'd be curious whether it'd be possible to manipulate it to kill a bunch of terrorists and save some time that way... strongly doubt it though.

To also address mklip's question about the single-mission category, I went ahead and researched on YouTube and noticed that multiple runners have done the same. In particular, a Longplay, a "no deaths", and a TAP (tool-assisted perfect playthrough) are all runs which also exclusively play mission JUPITER (on the highest ranking). Just wanted to add this information to support my decision to approve this as an any% category. Also moricat, you may be interested in watching that TAP run that I've linked to. It's a tool-assisted type of run which doesn't skip cutscenes, and such; which also keeping alive all of the agents as they skillfully sneak past through and dodge those spotlights :)

Just to be clear, completing any mission in this game has no bearing on completing the others -- the different missions are essentially difficulty settings in all but name, and the stage layouts, etc. are unchanged between them. So completing mission JUPITER is the right way to go; there's no reason to even touch the others. I think this is a perfect example of a game that should have two branches, one for absolute shortest time (i.e. this any% run) and the other for no deaths/best ending. Oh, and: great work! :)

I've had and lost my WIP which improved the previously published TAS by a huge margin up to the 3rd floor (1st floor we arrive after jumping in the 1st window from top). So, here's my observations: - Suicides seems to be optimized (fastest already) - Jumbo's 1st level probably optimized - Rooftop rappeling probably optimized Now for the hard part... 1. The terrorists have a "moving" priority with first moving between rooms and secondly moving between floors. There is no straightforward strategy apart from a manipulation viewpoint. The movements place is unknown (AFAIK they only move on non lag frames) 2. The game has a whole array of those terrorists, so the counts are actually legit. Each terrorist is a real entity and can be parsed in lua to get an interactive map. If the game would be easy, strategy would be something like this TAS: eliminate current floor, descend to next floor. The game is not easy and you can get scenarios like the terrorist moving up the floor while you already descended. You also need to time entering doors and rooms at the right time when the terrorist already there to avoid waiting time to kill them. This means you have the following edit: factors to build up your strategies: - Try killing everyone on top floor, while trying to manipulate terrorists to go bottom - There are 16 room per floors, terrorists can be anywhere even on stairs - Terrorists usually don't traverse stairs up, but there is a very little chance of.
