so this got found just now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKx03mprvDk We can skip the ronin. This definitely saves time. No doubt. The clip shown in the video in the previous post combined with this will make Chain Reaction about 1:30. Compare that to the several minutes it takes in the current TAS. As of right now I believe we have found about 5 minutes of improvement so far. I will continue to post here when we find new tricks that save a decent amount of time.

Wow, this stuff is incredible FitterSpace! With all this new clipping stuff and even more timesavers, I would be willing to try a new TAS of this game, with your help on all this new stuff of course.

Fitterspace is onboard for starting on a new TAS this Summer, I offered to help in some levels and it'd be great to have you on as well obviously! Certain parts from the current TAS can just be hex edited over to the new one (the driving portion of Island Infiltration for example).

Yeah I would love to work on a new TAS. I was thinking about waiting until the summer to start. My reasoning is that new stuff is being found every day and i'll have more free time during the summer. I'm definitely on board with having both of you work on the TAS. My only condition is that I do Phoenix Fire and Chain Reaction (which is my favorite level). I would also like to work on parts of other levels like Night Shift but we'll have to decide that later on. I don't know if you've been following Nightfire for the past few months, Gamerfreak, but it's been crazy. Tons and Tons of new improvements have been found. If you have Discord I would be happy to invite you to the Nightfire server. I can show you all of the new stuff there. Edit: I PM'd you an invite, gamerfreak

I'm all in for this! Glad to hear even more improvements are being found. Can't wait to see it! btw, I accepted the discord chat invite.

So this got found earlier today: https://youtu.be/TEP1F_7avwg?t=21s This is a small skip you can do in the last section of Phoenix Fire. Instead of having to break that large window and hit a button to open the shutter, you can just clip around it. This means that you don't have to get the Scorpion since you don't need to break the glass. This is a rough route for Phoenix Fire so far: 1) Kill the first guy in red and pick up his frag grenade 2) Clip on the wooden door and fall down the stairwell to get to the last door in section 1 3) At the start of the 2nd section get out the frag grenade while you're going toward the locked door. Then throw the grenade into the corner before typing in the code to open the door 4) After typing in the code, the door will open and the grenade should explode soon after 5) The grenade explosion should blow up the windows in the next room (the explosion goes through walls). This way you don't have to waste any time breaking the windows in that room. You can just go right through without waiting 6) do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrKYFqaNYYU&index=5&list=LLmvxbjCmUnS8EpjXs2uTgqg 7) Skip the elevator sequence with a frame perfect clip 8) Do the clip shown in the first link in this post Overall i estimate that this whole level will take 45 seconds or less.

I love how broken this game is becoming, keep it up! And of course you already hyped me for the new TAS ^^
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

This is a short TAS of The Exchange that I made a while back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6sBxFvaMmI I have TASes for other levels with Platinum Medals but i think this one is the best.

This is a theoretical skip we could do on Night Shift: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXSRXb5-cn8&feature=youtu.be I used the moon jump cheat to get myself onto the roof earlier than you're supposed to. The great thing is that the parachute spawns up there and you can finish the mission early. This is not possible to do at the moment, but if anybody can figure out a way to do this, it would save quite a bit of time. For some reason the game doesn't check if you've completed all of the objectives at the end of the level. This is one of the few levels that's like this. EDIT: My idea to getting up there involves going up the elevator and jumping before you open the vent. Then for a brief moment you can jump on the vent again as it's opening. This is essentially a double jump, but i can't get to the top. It's so close but it's just barely out of reach. I'm gonna keep trying since the angle and timing may be extremely specific.

So the theoretical night shift skip probably isn't going to happen. At least not the way i've been trying to get it. Maybe i'll find a way later but right now i'm a bit short on ideas. Jumping from the vent is just short of getting up there. Clipping probably won't help much unless you can seamwalk somewhere. I had a lot of ideas for potential clips but none of them seem to work right now.

Link to video This is a TAS of The Exchange on 00 agent in 2:17 (according to the in-game timer). This is roughly 4 seconds faster than the current published TAS. The biggest time save is a new clip that was discovered in the party section that saves about 4 seconds. So there are a few things that I want to mention about this TAS. 1) Control Scheme Difference This TAS uses the Nightfire control scheme, while the current published TAS uses Classic Bond. I took a few extra frames in the menu to select nightfire controls, but i actually ended up saving a few frames overall because of better menuing. But that's not the biggest time difference. Classic Bond controls allow for a higher maximum speed compared to Nightfire controls. However, Classic Bond controls lose time every time you change your angle. The reason for this is because to strafe you must hold up on the control stick. To change your angle you have to move the control stick, which means you aren't holding up, which means you lose speed and momentum. This is especially true if you want to turn around a corner. Classic Bond loses a lot of time in areas where you have to make a lot of turns. This TAS loses about one second in the first section because Nightfire has a slower maximum speed. However, it ends up saving about one second over the course of the rest of the level so it's pretty much even. Other levels are different, though. Some levels have a Classic Bond advantage while others have a Nightfire advantage. I think the time difference between the two is minimal so I chose to use the control scheme i'm most familiar with. I can answer any questions you have about this subject if you have any. 2) Jumping up the slopes in the first section saves about 4 frames per jump. If you notice, i could have done 3 jumps on the last slope but I only did one. This was because doing 3 jumps meant the guards would have seen me earlier and they would have gotten in my way. Not doing those two jumps means they had less time to react and I just ran past them. 3) Mashing Y while going up stairs saves time. I saved about 10 frames on the way up to the safe room in the last section compared to just running up the stairs normally. The fastest way to go up stairs is to jump onto them and mash Y until you get all the way up. 4) Going through the window in the last section is roughly half a second faster than clipping through the painting like the current TAS does. 5) The new clip in the Party sections saves a little over 4 seconds Gamerfreak, please message me on Discord as soon as you see this. I would love to talk to you about working with aleckermit on a new TAS. I think this would make a great start for it.

Gamerfreak, aleckermit, and I have officially started working on a new Nightfire TAS! I did the first level (as you seaw in a post earlier) Gamerfreak is working on the second level now.

Ok, I finished the second level Alpine Escape: Link to video Some notes on this run: - In the beginning, I found that shooting the tower with a grenade ASAP gives you a 20ish frame boost into the next cutscene. - At 1:38, shooting the snowmobile once before and once after the cutscene starts saves a few frames, since it takes you more time to kill him if you wait until after. Interestingly enough, shooting him twice before the cutscene makes you go slower than if you kill him with 2 shots after the cutscene. It is also a few frames slower if you shoot him immediately after the cutscene ends instead of waiting a second... - At 2:08, shooing the explosive barrel just before you see the enemies saves more time. In the old run, I shot the barrels too soon, and didn't get the boost afterwards. - 2:23 shooting the doors after the cutscene gives you a boost, like I did in the last TAS. Shooting the doors before the cutscene would therefore be slower. And that's all the specifics. Now, the in-game timer says 4:03, but the video itself is less than that for some reason. The in-game timer must be including the cutscenes at full length or something.

The in-game timer in this game is not very accurate. It doesn't include cutscenes in the on-foot levels but i'm not sure about the driving levels or autoscrollers.

So I just found this today: Link to video Saves over 2 minutes of waiting in Countdown, so that's pretty awesome.

Wow, that's a great find! :) I've been wondering, how does the clipping method in this game work? I can't tell what people are doing in videos other than the fact they crouch with watch....then stand up? Could anybody be so kind as to explain what is happening?

Aleckermit has a video that explains clipping very well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKbKej1mkRs He explains it in that video much better than I could with text. Basically you can wedge yourself under an object that prevents you from uncrouching while trying to stand up. This will push your feet through the floor and allow you to fall through.

Oh ok. Thanks for link! I wanted to mess around with this myself since I actually have a copy of the game :P

Looks like now there is a way to speed up the Island Infiltration Autoscroller section: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4efFyKDchq4 This part of the level behaves just like Alpine Escape, where shooting certain enemies at different times can impact your speed. Right now I am testing different things to see what can speed you up. This saves at least 10 seconds over the current published TAS.
