It's coming up on a year since Rachel Bryk passed, and I was thinking that it would be a wonderful gesture if we could possibly organize some kind of... something or other to send to her family to help them out around that time. I once messaged Rachel's mother on Facebook a couple months after it happened, just to say that I was thinking about Rachel and how much it effected me even though I couldn't even call her an acquaintance of mine. Her mom said the thing she fears the most is that Rachel would be, or already was, completely forgotten.
I can't say I can even imagine exactly what it's like to go through that sort of event. I would take a guess that it doesn't really go away, it's just better or worse at different points. And there's not really anything we can do to take it away entirely. I'm sure that it'll get worse in April. That's why I think that, no matter how big or small, it would be a great thing to say "TASVideos has not forgotten Rachel." The fear of her being forgotten is one thing we can do something about.
I messaged adelikat about this privately first (I basically copy-pasted this from that message), and they'd love to see this happen but worry that they're too busy to manage it. So I'm bringing this to the forums. Maybe we can set something up where we can send a care package of some sort. Or donations, some flowers, whatever works. I've never really done anything like this before and I'm pretty much a nobody in this community, so I figured it'd be better to pose the idea and see what kind of interest there is rather than lay out a fully-fleshed idea myself. I'd definitely love to contribute and help out with something like this, though! I'm just not sure I could be a sole leader on it.
Anyone interested?
I got an idea. How about you collect loving posts from people on the site, then compile them together in an image?
For example, you could use a big picture of a corkboard, place it in photoshop and put people's thoughts as notes on it, amidst Rachel's work and life.
Then, you can present that to Rachel's parents. Maybe they'd like it.
Yes, also last time I checked the topic I believe Rachel had a special interest about a Harvest Moon TAS.
So, not sure how relevant it is here, but few years ago I started a "one-day" TAS about "HM:Back to the Nature"(on PSX). I was interested to see how much money you could exploit with the "in-door time" feature and get as much money as possible with "a single in-game day"(basically using in-door mining) rather than a typical complete 3 years run. I believe that kind of "challenge" would be more interesting and shorter than what the game expects you to do. Sadly, recently I lost the movie due to hard disk failure, so the idea may not happen. Yet I guess someone else could come up with specific challenges about those kinds of games.
Another idea I can throw here: Get someone to play or TAS a game that Rachel liked on livestream(or anyone missing here, on TASVideos) to raise funds for charity/special cause...

I could never properly dump the ISO, otherwise I would have at least started it back when I said I would. I may have to give it another shot at some point, just not anytime soon.
