You know, actually I think Raphael would be fastest for a 1 player run: He has the strongest special, and his dash+special will quickly fly through groups of enemies instantly killing purple guys and robots, and he walks faster than anyone else (walking being required at least for up/down movement). So he should get through levels more quickly and also be faster at killing all bosses except for Baxter.

Perhaps, but Donatello has the best reach and I usually just dash when I have to go somewhere. I'll have to see if raphael's special attack hits the bosses TWICE like the donatello does.

The dash+special does as much damage as the regular special, and doesn't reduce your own life, and I think it lasts as long as Donatello's special so can hit the boss twice. It can be done anywhere pretty much instantly anywhere, except the surfing stages where you can't run.

Yeah, except for up/down movement. Also, you can double-tap a direction to dash immediately, so you can do a dash-attack/special or body-slam without needing a running start, if you set dash to manual. Also, I think Donatello has a move you never used that's even stronger than his special, press jump while dashing then a few frames before the somersault ends hit attack.

I dont find that practical anymore, in the age of frame advancing... Unless you're planning to play without frame advance, which would be bad. Its better to have one person controlling everything, there can be someone else to "assist" in strategies, or in "hold this button for me please. ok let it go now", but two people thinking at the same time just won't work.

2-player of this game would be fun, but I think it would be considerably slower so I'm not so sure anymore. Also, like FODA said, you don't need 2 different people to play a 2-player game - it's easier (in time attacks) with 1 person controlling both players.

Actually I noticed a HUGE flaw in this movie, and its the fact the player plays and beats all the enemies/collects all the pizza's he could have skipped to save time on the bonus counter, a good 15-20 seconds on each mini-game. And don't say its because "To beat everything" because there is several parts in the game you use the games scrolling to push enemies off the left side of the screen (The Wild West for example)

I pointed it out before too. But I actually like it better this way. Looking at someone failing minigames and missing bonuses for half a minute instead would be pretty boring.

Yeah, for the bonus stages I did the same thing mazzeneko did because it would have been boring otherwise. Plus it wouldn't have saved 15-20 seconds each - I timed it and it would only save 6 seconds total (about 3 seconds each) to miss all items/kills in both both stages (unless there is a special case for skipping the entire score display when you get 0 points, which I doubt).

I have the latest version of Mplayer, and that plays most of the movies on this site. However, this one I cannot get to play no matter what I try. I have the storm codec pack and I tried that too, nothin'. What do I do to play this? Also, what the heck codec are you guys using? It makes almost every video player freak out.

Even better if you can read the FAQ since there's always updated information there. I've got problems with people saying that are using Mplayer under Windows because I don't know if they are talking about real Mplayer or M$ windows mplayer.

Are you sure the 5 damage one with the different animation wasn't simply the start of his attack sequence again? That's what I assumed it was, because it only seemed to happen when I waited longer than a certain (short) amount of time between the 2nd and 3rd hits.

yup, i'm sure. i just tested again, and got his 4th, sai-spinning hit after his 3rd, 5-point-damaging one. besides, neither of his 3rd hits have the same windup as his 1st hit anyway. i used the Geiger Snes9x emulator to put a watch on an address involved in choosing whether to swap Raph's 3rd attack, and it's constantly incrementing, so it's probably a timer of some sort. in particular, the bottom bit of it ($00:003A) is used in the decision. given how you crazy speedrunners weep over lost frames, you may've been reluctant to wait. ;)

have you determined what makes you throw a Foot at the screen versus bashing it into the ground? the instruction manual and some FAQs talk about holding down the control pad or pressing it in different directions, but i've yet to find something that works consistently, even after exploring in slow motion. and curiously, i seem a lot more likely to get the bash in slow-mo (probably, i'm doing something small differently i'm not aware of).

Yes; you have to: - push into the stunned foot soldier in any one direction for at least some number of frames - still be within grabbing distance afterward - try to throw it while still holding the direction you were pushing This must all happen before the stun wears off, and it won't work if you try doing this at a time when the game has disabled the screen throw.

what i do when playing normally is: - hold forward and press Y = throw the enemy at the screen - release the d-pad and press Y (close enough) = bash the enemy on the ground.

thanks both. nitsuja: i am able to replicate it consistently using those instructions, but what do you mean by "in any one direction"? like i tried letting a purple Foot get directly above me on the screen, swatting him, pushing up for 8-12 frames, then holding up and pressing attack, but i'll only do the bash move. likewise for moving downwards after hitting a Foot below me. obviously, i'll be moving left or right if i want to play the game well, but i'm curious how flexible the throw is.

I am pretty sure I got it to work a few times with holding up instead of left/right (and might even have left an instance or two of that in the movie), but it was much less reliable in most situations. It could be that you have to still be on the same side as you started, and that pushing up for enough frames usually puts you too high on the screen for it to work, especially if using a fast-moving character like Raphael. Either that, or I hit left/right at the last moment to do the actual throw and forgot I did that. Also, I seem to remember needing to be offset somewhat to the left/right (instead of directly below) for it to work.

i'm still having no luck with up/down. i neglected to mention in the last post that i had the same results while being below and offset to the left from the enemy.

hmm.. there may be something to that second part. i'll try and figure the minimal frames you have to walk left/right to trigger the throw, then apply that to walking up/down. you don't have to be on the same side as you started, however. i tried this: stunning an enemy (who was to my right) with my weapon, walking towards it and ending up almost on top of it (but slightly to the left), stunning it again, then walking several frames to the right (which took me past the right side of the enemy), turning around and walking several back to the left, and successfully performing the throw (pressing left + Y).

Hmm, I must have been wrong about it working with up/down. That always seems to result in a ground slam even on the same frames that left/right would cause a screen throw.

Hey folks, Two things. First, an insignificant contribution to Raphael's melee attacks. While I haven't been monitoring any values, I can tell from experience that the damage dealt is not always the same, with the same enemy sometimes withstanding a number of attacks that would in other cases destroy him. Second, a faster way of beating Slash ^.^ http://s63.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3K0OQ32MPO37H2F8CZHK8KDPP7 I apologize for size, quality etc, for it was pasted together with primitive tools and a just as primitive user. It uses the everyday windows media codec, and was recorded with Snes9x and then given a less-than-perfect cut and paste job with Movie Maker. Basically, keep headbutting him (or whatever the ramming move is called), and get the timing down right which isn't THAT hard to do when playing in less than realtime. Notice that some headbutts hit twice, too.
