What I ended up watching this season. Ongoing Re:Zero is gradually becoming better, though it has already started on a high note. Mild harem notions aside, it's one of the few successful attempts to deconstruct the premise of an everyday person ending up in a fantasy-themed world. And it doesn't pull its punches when showing the less desirable traits of the protagonist! Not on NGE's level of psyche exploration, of course, but good enough to be believable. Mob Psycho 100. Clever and insightful satire from ONE, as expected, and amazing animation from Studio Bones, even better than expected! Well done all around. Amaama to Inazuma / Sweetness & Lightning. It's much like Usagi Drop, except with blood-related father and daughter, and focused on... making food. Likable characters and their very natural interaction makes it one of the better SoL shows I've seen recently. 91 Days. A gritty Prohibition-era mafia drama from the studio that made Baccano and Durarara. Seems well-written and not at all insulting to the intelligence. I expect a nice plot twist coming up soon, so if any of you is going to watch this, better start now lest you get spoiled. Shokugeki no Souma S2. It's exact same as S1, except with no characterization and more monster-of-the-week approach. If you like your cooking showdowns, you're going to have a blast, but if you're looking for more substance and less shounen porn, you probably won't find that here. I wouldn't bother, had I not liked the previous season. Orange. Very slow and girly. I'm not sure if I like it, but there's nothing really bad about it except the glacial pace. Onara Gorou. A brilliant short-form series straight from the bowels of Takashi Taniguchi, the man behind such acclaimed masterpieces as Mr Ando of the Woods, Salaryman Man, and, of course, Mukidashi no Mitsuko. Bananya. Another short-form about a cat that lives in a banana peel, and his friends, who are also cats living inside banana peels. It's exactly what you'd expect from a description like that. Berserk. A very, very poorly made adaptation of a best-selling manga that pales in comparison even to one made 19 years ago. I'm not even sure how you can fail so badly. But since it's the only adaptation of my favorite manga, I still have to witness it destroyed by the incompetent hands of whoever comprises the production committee. There's no excuse that Mob Psycho 100, a manga that barely anyone outside Japan knows, receives incredibly well-done animation by one of the premier studios, yet a worldwide phenomenon Berserk only gets low-budget 3D with unremarkable music, laughable sound effects, and... censored nipples (yes, in an R-rated series where 90% of the cast eventually gets tortured and/or brutally killed). Older stuff Monogatari series. I've watched all of it up to and including Kizumonogatari movie 1. Loved it! Great humor, very confident sense of style to the point where it becomes the substance, infinitely lovable and well-written characters, entertaining dialogue, extreme fanservice executed in such a deliberate and confident way that you can only applaud and say, "fucking this, THIS is how you do it". Kizu is more subdued in the latter regard, clearly more suited for cinematic experience. Can't wait for the other two parts and the final TV season. Umineko no Naku Koro ni / When the Seagulls Cry. I'm about halfway through, and I still don't get what some people like about this show. In some rare moments it appears like an intelligent mystery series, but it takes only a few minutes to wash that impression away with how annoying and unnatural everyone and everything is.

The Censorship of Tokyo Ghoul TV vs BD (Spoilers Duh): http://imgur.com/a/tvt2r http://imgur.com/a/3TE2T http://imgur.com/a/LwwuP http://imgur.com/a/1TchP Tokyo Ghoul √A Episodes 5 & 6: http://imgur.com/a/D2VRz The important part about Episode 5 is the event that occurred before airing... I won't discuss about this event. Knives were heavily censored, and only 2 animes were affected which had knives. Tokyo Ghoul √A (Additional Censorship) and Assassination Classroom (chose to delay). It's fairly apparent on which censoring was done this way as it's very inconsistent. Also, never forget the first 3 episodes of Terra Formars: http://kotaku.com/as-far-as-anime-censorship-goes-this-is-pretty-ridicul-1645599166 There's also the Nippleless on Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou (Everyday Life with Monster Girls) which saw the life of nipples on release. Nippleless, Assbeams, Panty-aww, Full Fog Machine Roaring, of Prison School which was all uncensored on release. I mean it could've been worse. You could be paying Funimation for some of the high stuff and you see "DxD" on some ass and tits, or extra fog on the Valkyrie Drive. Where it was uncensored on the TV broadcast. Let's also not forget the time where Funimation literally stream a version which censored fog in Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai (Unbreakable Machine-Doll). So, Berserk will get that R rating. As there's also some scenes that were darker fade suggesting/showing that more was censored out.

It's that time of the year again! The time of unending disappointment and a new round of stomach-churning mediocrity to be consumed and digested by yours truly. But before that, a couple more notes on the previous season. • Mob Psycho 100. My intuition didn't fail me: this was indeed the AotS. Lots of incredible trope subversion and the most impressive visuals I've seen since about Redline, too. • Re:Zero. Still very decent but panders too hard to the shounen audience and loses the grit established in the first cour. • Souma S2. Gets some enjoyable character development near the end... for like three episodes. Oh well. • Orange. The protagonist girl has the personality of a doorknob and ruins an otherwise genuine show. Almost dropped it. Let's move on to my new picks. From what I gather so far, there will be some genuinely fun stuff this time around. Drifters. Saw the pilot; this is the raw action anime people have been waiting for—the real deal, none of the whiny boys nor limpdick zombies. Only swords, guns, fists, gore, and lots of general badassery. Knowing the author, I have reasons to believe it won't be dumb, either, which is a step above the typical action show. Natsume Yuujinchou Go / Natsume's Book of Friends 5. I haven't yet caught up on all the previous seasons, but if it's as good as any of the first three, that's already excellent. Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku / Magical Girl Raising Project (yes, sounds very cringeworthy). Started it because everyone said it tried its hardest to be like Madoka. But trying to imitate Madoka is silly, so it'll most likely either turn into an hilarious trainwreck or, less likely but not impossible, an unexpectedly good show—either of which is fine with me. Bungo Stray Dogs S2. I know it's unfounded, but let's hope it'll be better than S1 because that one felt like it wasn't making use of its potential at all. Nanbaka / The Numbers. Fabulous in all senses of the word. I expect some legit good comedy from this. TO BE HERO. Nabeshin, the director of Excel Saga and Puni Puni Poemi, returns with a better superhero genre parody than the audience deserves. This will likely be the funniest short-form of the season. Gakuen Handsome. Another short-form, this time an incredible yaoi parody. That teacher reveal... not for the faint of heart. 3-gatsu no Lion / March Comes in Like a Lion. Hasn't aired yet, but it's a seinen/SoL directed by Shaft's powerhouse Akiyuki Shinbou, and that guy knows his shit; I have no doubts this will be good. Fune wo Amu. Not sure what to expect from this yet, but the premise seems good, and it's based on a novel (not light novel—actual novel) which is typically a good sign. Here are the sub groups who have expressed the will to do these, if you're one of those retrogrades like me who generally prefer fansubs over official translations.

Thank you again dearly for your recommendations. I will check out Drifters since your description fits my taste :D Still dying to see continuation of Shigurui or something remotely similar.

I blame Crunchyroll for adding this onto my list. Ninja Girl & Samurai Master / Nobunaga no Shinobi It's one of the shorts for this season. To me it's perfectly fine, and stays its welcome for long enough. But as usual, your tastes/interests may be different.

It's been suggested to me to start getting into JoJos but I am curious to know which is better, anime or manga? I am hearing good things about the anime.

I've only seen the OVA series that was at that point chronologically first with regards to the story (was released second though), and it was so-so—fun at times but not too captivating. But then again it is also the lowest ranked one on MAL and AniDB. People say the series keeps getting better, so I intend to catch up one day as well. I think you should go with the anime because the fights get quite ridiculous at some points.

I feel like making a list of all Anime and Manga I every watched and read, regardless of whether they are my favorites. If I can remember them all, that is. Here goes: Detective Conan/Case Closed/Meitantei Conan [Anime] [Manga] - I watched the German localization as a kid, but now I'm only checking out the important episodes and chapters. After the Bourbon arc I kind of lost interest but I'm still looking at this series every once in a while. Doremi/Ojamajo Doremi [Anime] - I have not really watched through this series, but I remember some of the more important episodes. Naruto [Anime] [Manga] - I watched most non-filler episodes of the regular anime, but stopped at some point in Shippuden. I did watch many of the important episodes after that, though. Neon Genesis Evangelion [Anime] - I can't really remember this series well. I only started watching it because it was said to be one of Gainax Studio's finer works. The last few episodes really lost me. Heard the movie was good but never watched it. Oruchuban Ebichu [Anime] - Hanamaru Youchien / Hanamaru Kindergarten [Anime] - I don't really remember anything from this series but it was ok. I only watched it because I had been on a trip to watch some Gainax Studio Animes. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann [Anime] - Pretty good Anime for what it is. I considered this my favorite for a long time. One Piece [Anime] [Manga] - This series has a place in my heart and I'm always eagerly following new episodes and chapters. The Anime unfortunately suffers from slow pacing and the story-telling is quite clichéd. The Dress Rosa arc sucked. But I appreciate the author foreshadowing and thinking through things and every single character has his own story and background. Hajime no Ippo [Anime] [Manga] - There have been 3 Anime adaptions and the Manga is still ongoing after 1150 chapters. In the Manga, I hate the battles (which is strange for a Manga about boxing). The battles just get dragged out for like 15 chapters each time and I can't get invested in them. The plot points and funny/emotional moments outside of the battles I can really appreciate, though. Especially in regard to Ippo and Kumi. Sooner or later, Ippo will have to choose between Kumi and boxing. Dragon Ball [Anime] - Dragonball and Dragonball Z are the shit of my childhood! Dragon Ball GT I stopped watching midway through because it sucked. Dragon Ball Super, which is currently ongoing, I'm interested, especially in the current arc. But the animation quality sucks compared to Z and the "funny moments" sometimes kill the mood. The current few episodes (63~65) have been lacklustre, unfortunately. Overall, Dragon Ball Super is ok but could have been much better. Super Kickers 2006 - Captain Tsubasa [Anime] - The only Tsubasa series I watched. Can't really remember how it ended. Was meh. Megaman NT Warrior [Anime] - The only Megaman series I watched. Can't really remember how it ended. Was meh. Hamtaro [Anime] - Have not really watched through this series, but I did catch a few episodes as a kid. Ranma 1/2 [Anime] - This was also one of my favorites from my childhood. Unfortunately the German voice of Ranma had died and so the German adaption was canceled after 80 episodes or so. But I did continue with the English sub. Too bad the Anime didn't adapt all of the Manga. The Promised Neverland [Manga] - This is an up and coming new Manga series that I rather coincidentally started reading. I really love it so far. Hoping this gets an Anime adaption later. Golden Boy [Anime] - Fist of the Northstar / Hokuto No Ken [Anime] [Manga] - Pretty good stuff. I marathoned through the Anime and then read the remaining non-adapted chapters. Was a pretty good experience. Death Note [Anime] - The first half of this series was good, the second half was bland and meh. Overall, too much dialogue. I never really could get invested in this series as much as it seems everyone else could. Sword Art Online [Anime] - Someone recommended this to me and I watched the first few episodes, but then stopped. Maybe I'll pick it up again later. Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt [Anime] - This is filled with Awesome. Quite unique animation style. Sucks how it ended in a cliffhanger Spirited Away [ Movie] - Good movie Pokémon [Anime] - I played Pokémon Yellow and watched most episodes from Gen 1. Everything after completely lost me. Digimon [Anime] - Was also something I loved from my childhood. I watched everything except Tamers and Data Squad. Kill la Kill [Anime] - I watched the first episode only... Somehow I didn't get hooked. Maybe will pick it up later.

EoE is much better than the end of the series, imo. ...and there's also the Rebuild movies.

Maybe this would be the good time to rewatch it. Part of Eva's enduring success and relevance is its surgical inquiry into the feelings and behavior of troubled young people without resorting to just being edgy as many modern series opt to be in their failure or refusal to be more inquisitive. It doesn't only show characters that have problems, but also elaborates on the reasons of these problems and the way they affect the characters' development and everyday life. It's a deeply psychological show masterfully disguised (lol) as a monster-of-the-week mecha anime. In my opinion Eva portrays the turmoil, anger, agony, and the feeling of being lost one experiences when confronted with sensitive matters and speaks to the inner pathetic parts of ourselves that everyone has. Which is also why so many people hate the show and its protagonist so much: they really don't like to be reminded of these parts. The last two episodes and the movie are, in a way, two sides of a coin. The TV versions indulged in the psychological aspect of the final part of Shinji's coming-of-age character arc; i.e. they basically animated his inner monologue. The movie (which is, by far, my most favorite anime movie of all time) opted to focus on the events that were going on outside Shinji's head at the same time as the last two TV episodes. The movie is certainly better and is a complete experience, but that's not to say that the TV episodes are meaningless or skippable; I believe they are anything but. The Rebuild movies I consider to be Hideaki Anno's elaborate attempt to troll the hardcore fanbase in the same manner as the original series "trolled" the general audience by continually and violently pulling the rug it was standing on. In a sense, it a meta-Eva for Eva fans who didn't get the "grow the fuck up" memo the first time. On one hand I wish he'd just fixed everything that was wrong with the original series instead of going onto metatext excursions, but on the other hand, I'm also interested to see where this line of thought takes him. The third movie felt both incomprehensible, inconsequential, and appeared to be a setup for something much greater; possibly something just one more movie wouldn't be enough for without being over two hours long. I'm genuinely curious as to how it will end, considering the third movie already seemingly takes place in a post-Third Impact world (which basically means the events of EoE basically took place offscreen between the 2nd and 3rd movies, and thus won't be reiterated).

I'm afraid only disappointment awaits you if you decide to continue. The series just keeps on piling up the stupid in every possible sense (more so than the second half of Death Note). If you've lost the interest naturally, that's probably for the better.
MUGG wrote:

It's a divisive series alright. It poses a lot of interesting and unexpected questions and has excellent humor, visual style, and soundtrack (and is generally mad fun if you end up enjoying it), but its inconsistent pacing, budget-related animation shortcuts, and controversial themes puts a lot of people off. I'd encourage you to give it another shot; imo it's worth it even if you don't get all the historical/linguistic/theological/pop-culture references and allegories (of which there is a metric fuckton; this list only covers the first half of the show). In a way it's a lot like Gurren Lagann (as both of them are made by the same team and continue the long legacy of Gainax's action-oriented coming-of-age stories); though where TTGL rigorously explores numerous aspects of a particular theme (that is main character's arc) from its very beginning to its very end in what is pretty much a mythical fashion, and focuses on masculinity because its MC is male, KLK opts for exploring a broad range of themes unified by the idea (and its subversion) of duality in various aspects of people's lives, and, naturally, focuses on femininity because its MC is female. Similarly to Eva, a great many people who dislike KLK for its themes and/or their presentation are typically those who fail to embrace the duality it presents in any meaningful way.

I prefer Gigguk's version: Link to video His rendition of that silly "UHHH-EHHH-UHHH" sound effect makes life worth living. Btw, recently watched Planetes (ΠΛΑΝΗΤΕΣ, 2003). Now this is cool. Basically this is a show about garbage men in space, e.g. astronauts who clean up space debris (remember the movie Gravity? Well, it's about that, except with less forced disaster feel), and it's much better than it had any right to be. Well-developed, believable, stereotype-free characters; methodical narrative structure that starts out slow but tightens up with every episode keeping things fresh and unpredictable; sober and restrained visual style and sound design 100% dedicated to realism and attention to detail. The last time I saw a sci-fi show that took itself so seriously was Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and Planetes is perhaps the closest thing to LotGH in a lot of aspects. Fully recommended to everyone who prefers more adult-oriented and/or sci-fi shows.

2 Things. 1) Read my post subject on my one (since it's the date on when the video wad made and my delayed posting). 2) Gigguk's version is literally the entire story summarized into 8 minutes and DEEsidia avoids the story and straight into a joke.

Forgot one on my list. Heidi, by definition, is also a Japanese Anime. I rewatched all episodes in German not too long ago, mostly for nostalgia than anything else. @moozooh, thanks for your elaborate write-up. EDIT: And Hoshi no Kaabi (Kirby of the stars / Kirby right back at ya).

If I understand correctly, in Japan all animated cartoons are "anime". It's just their word for it. Thus (and again, if I'm not mistaken) even western cartoons are called "anime" there. It's just their loanword for "animation" (ie. animated cartoon). In the west, however, "anime" tends to have a much more specific meaning. Usually it not only means animated cartoons made in Japan, but more specifically ones with a certain style. In other words, it's a word that refers to a style or genre, rather than just being a generic term for all animation. With Japanese cartoons like Heidi, this western definition may become a bit blurred. Some might consider it "anime" while others don't.

I watched jack shit last year... Welcome to 2017... I guess belated post and all. Where the anime is made up or just failing to follow the Manga or Novel. AniChart shows the latest anime that's out this year or you can bring up something you watched in the past, you can use MyAnimeList to assist. Anything marked in red has been rated M (or higher). Anything marked in blue means I just picked it up late during the season, it will be purple if rated M. It will return to default when I catchup. Backlog? What is that? Anime that have come out so far in 2017 (That I've watched & Completed): Eromanga-sensei - "This show is trash and so am I" Anime of 2017 that I will be watching: Winter '17: Akiba's Trip The Animation Chaos;Child Drop Out - I just found out this has to do with idols... unless I'm mistaken by a scene. Fuuka - Actual Spoiler: Can't wait for the truck. Interviews With Monster Girls (Demi-chan wa Kataritai) Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maidragon) Little Witch Academia - Movies - Digimon Adventure tri. 4: Soushitsu Kizumonogatari III - Reiketsu-hen Spring '17: Alice & Zouroku (Alice to Zouroku) Armed Girl's Machiavellism (Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism) Attack on Titan Season 2 (Shingeki no Kyojin Season 2) - Somehow watch, as I'll prefer this one over the first season... this goes for a few shows I watched. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations - HE PICKED IT UP!? THE ABSOLUTE MADMAN! Clockwork Planet Seven Mortal Sins (Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai) What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us? (Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desu ka?) Summer '17: A Centaur's Life (Centaur no Nayami) Compulsive Gambler (Kakegurui) Fate/Apocrypha My First Girlfriend is a Galr (Hajimete no Gal) Owarimonogatari 2nd Season Summer '17: Land of the Lustrous (Houseki no Kuni) Pingu in the City - Noot! Noot! Other (Alphabetized): Cowboy Bebop - The first rule of combat. Shoot them before they shoot you. Mars of Destruction (Hametsu no Mars) Mysterious Girlfriend X (Nazo no Kanojo X) - When best girl is the female protagonist... Feels like it ends too short, which is backed up by the Manga's length being longer. Mysterious Girlfriend X: Mysterious Summer Festival (Nazo no Kanojo X: Nazo no Natsu Matsuri) - The OVA is rated PG. Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma (Shokugeki no Souma) - Totally didn't move this from my post in 2015. (Totally did that) Everyday Life with Monster Girls (Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou) - For those wondering if it's 100% fanservice. Yes... it is. Later in the manga it goes serious. Anyways... Legs. Strike the Blood - "This is my fight!" "No Senpai. This is our fight!" - Someone throw them the "Book of Idiots" and tell them to turn to Year 2013. Thank God there's no sequel... what's this 8 Episode OVA? ...shit. Vividred Operation - No. Just... avoid it like the plague and shit.

I've been getting into Anime a bunch lately, after not watching since my very casual days probably 10+ years ago. So I decided to post what I've watched so far, and what I'm planning to watch. The gist can be found on myanimelist: https://myanimelist.net/profile/RisingFog Going into a bit more detail about the shows I've watched thus far: Mob Psycho 100: This was the first full series I watched, mostly because of the English voice actor of 9S in NieR: Automata was starring in it (yes, it was NieR: Automata which got me curious about anime's again). I'm glad I started with this series, as the animation and the story is simply great, with a relatively unique art style. Highly anticipating the second season. One Punch Man: Because I enjoyed MP100, I decided to also check out OPM as ONE created both shows. I didn't really enjoy this as much as I did MP100, but it's still a great show with great art and animation. I'm a bit concerned for the second season as the animation studio and some staff have changed, but I'm still looking forward to it. Attack On Titan: The hype anime of 2013, this was absolutely going to be on my plan to watch list. Definitely a lot darker than the previous two anime's I listed above thus far. It took a little bit to get into the groove, but now I'm fully on board. The four year gap between the first and second season seems to not have affected the anime, at least not something noticeable to me. My Hero Academia: The hype anime of 2016, this has become one of my, if not the favourite show from what I've watched thus far. Everything about this show has been excellent so far, and I'm eagerly awaiting to see the third season animated. Little Witch Academia: I was recommended this show by a few people, but this is probably the only anime thus far that I've put on hold and possibly will drop. I'm about 9 episodes in, and it's just not my kind of show. Maybe I'll finish it soon, but I moved on to other shows for the time being. Tokyo Ghoul: I picked this one up on my own as the visuals drew me into the show without knowing anything about the plot. Just about tied with Attack On Titan as the darkest shows I've watched. I went through this show over a few days, and really enjoyed what I watched. From what I understand, √A (the second season) completely deviates from the manga, so I'm putting the second season on hold until I read the manga. Yuri!!! On Ice: A complete departure from Tokyo Ghoul, I decided it was best to jump into Yuri On Ice after watching that. I had some faint ideas of what this show was going into it, but this show defied all my expectations (in good ways). The story was great, and the relationships between the characters are not over the top, and feels real. The French-Canadian skater is a douche though (not surprised by this). Looking forward to the movie and possibly second season. Death Note: Currently in the process of watching this show, 7 episodes in. I'm reading the manga simultaneously with watching the anime, so it'll probably take a bit for me to finish this one. The adaptation is relatively accurate thus far, haven't noticed any major differences. I've got a lot of shows on my plan to watch list, so I won't bother with writeups for those shows. I also picked up reading a bunch of manga too, which can also be found on myanimelist. As I keep going through shows, I'll post updates on what I've watched in here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crayon_Shin-chan the anime version is pretty good as well
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

LWA also has some short movies. The TV series can go quite low in the art department and the story of some episodes can feel very much like filler, but by the end it is (imo) better than all previous episodes. You might just want to marathon the series.

I'm about 40 episodes into Ranma 1/2. It's mostly met my expectations, which is unfortunate, since my expectations were rather low. It has its moments. The manga was an absolute blast, though. Highly recommended, and I'd argue the anime would be difficult to watch without already being familiar with the manga.

It starts very interesting, but in later seasons succumbs more and more into lack of new ideas, and introducing tons and tons of new characters who have little to no relevance (it's almost like they replaced coming up with new, original, interesting ideas with just introducing the thirtieth-or-so new character that has never been seen before.) Still some good episodes in the later seasons, but more rarely. After the series proper, the OVAs are a good watch.
