Disney's The Little Mermaid in 06:41.32 by McBobX

Objectives achieved:

  • Beating the game as fast as possible
  • Saving time by taking damage
  • Manipulating Luck
  • Clearing the game with only one power orb

Comments

Well, I managed to get a good RTA time in normal speedruning which is 7:00.22 as of 28th Nov 2016, but after watching the TAS by AnS and trying to inspiring some good strats from it, I found that it also needs some other improvements, and the first one which is really obvious is in Walrus, as it is possible to beat it only like 5 cycles unlike in the current run that took a full 6 cycles which saves like around 3 seconds, and that gave me the idea to do a tool-assisted for this game. Not only that major time saved noted above was found but also there are some minor optimizations here and there in the run like grabing the shell to kill fishes without shooting bubbles on them which saves more frames, and good every boss fight. Overall, this run succeded on improving the current run by 426 frames or 7.09 sec

Special Thanks

Really spacial thanks to AnS for his run which was a great resource and for his glitch that allows to shoot bubbles and turn around at the same time which I used much in this run.

Noxxa: Judging.
Noxxa: Accepting as an improvement to the published movie.
Fog: Processing.

Nice run. But is it really need to take damage in only one level from boss?

Nice improvement! I was thinking of looking at this myself, but now there is no need. Good run and voting yes!

I suggest this one officialy for the publication.
Sorry, but we're not going to accept an encode with a blatant spelling mistake in the logo. If you didn't know already, "information" is an uncountable noun and thus doesn't have a plural form. EDIT: On top of that, the encode doesn't end properly. You end it shortly after the second loop starts, when it should end at the exact moment the first loop ends (~1s difference).
Steam Community page - Bluesky profile Oh, I'm just a concerned observer.

Thank you so much for giving me another subject to search about: Uncountable nouns. I will learn more about it. And now I will re-encode the run again with good spelling, also I have to correct the game name from"Little Mermaid" to "Disney's The Little Mermaid" which I didn't take care about.

EDIT: Now everything is good, check the encode again.

Why did you collect the treasure from the first level?

Normally Ariel needs to shot two bubbles to freeze fishes and this treasure gives more power to Ariel's bubbles and reduce that number from two to one, and that saves great amount of time.

Sorry if I didn't answer it in the right time. Well, it could be damageless but it is going to waste some time, so instead, taking damage was a good choice to save it, that's why I wrote in the objectives "Saving time by taking damage"

Hey, sorry I didn't see this in the submissions earlier! I used to rent this game from our video store, and it's pretty good. It gets much harder starting with that annoying Walrus boss. Nice job with the improvement. The use of damage on the seahorse boss looked really slick to me. Yes vote, if that counts for anything.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.
