I can't figure out how to manipulate the weather effects either. There's probably some way to do it, perhaps it's a variable decided before exiting the previous level... At any rate, this looks good. If you're continuing this attempt I look forward to more. Though, you might wanna check with the administrators first, it'd sure suck if you put a lot of work into a run of his hack, only for them not to accept it. SMW:TLC opened up a lot of new possiblities, but they aren't going to accept EVERY hack out there.

I'm not going to submit this, I'm just doing this for the fun of it. If I'm still up for it, maybe I'll try making a more polished version after finishing this run.

Glad you guys brought this up. This is an awesome hack and I played it a while ago (as in a year ago). There is a lot of variety in the game, but for the most part, Magic Mario+Raccoon Mario should get through most levels quickly. I remember that in 8-7, the three coins on the far end are a trick to throw you off. I even went as far as to get them (by squeezing through the wall), only to realize that it was impossible to return. A well-known trick is that Bowser's lower half cannot hurt you. I exploited this to my advantage (by controlling to some extent where he jumps). Oh, and I'm talking about non-assisted here. Is there a restart sequence in Mario Adventure? Not that it really matters, because the SRAM functionality only works in NESticle (the author of this game said that).

Yeah there's a code you can enter to restart with a clean slate. I was stuck at 8-7 for the longest time, and only recently finish the game (finally). That final Bowser battle was really nifty, and after the previous 7 battles I was wondering how it could be made more challenging, and lo and behold... he has to be beaten with fireballs. Spiffy. Though, I wasn't fond of the palatte swap, Bowser should be green, darnit. Anyways, yay more interest.

There is a code to erase game but I was wondering about a code that emulates a power cycle. For example, if I grab a key, can I just reset and return to the world choose screen, instead of beating the whole world, and without merely choosing the emulator's reset. Emulator movies do not record resets. My strategy for the final battle is to duck at the very edge over the lava. Bowser cannot hit you when you are ducking directly under him. Not even his fireballs can hit you. By ducking at the very edge, Bowser will jump into the lava and you can unload on him. This ducking trick works extremely well for the previous Bowser battles, but I'd rather send him flying with 15 magic stars (a.k.a. hacked hammers).

Even emulating a power cycle won't work. I tried to do that the first time I played the game. On top of getting the 7 keys, you also HAVE to beat the 7 Koopa Kids. Else you can't actually enter World 8. Of course, I don't think there's a way to emulate a power cycle in FCEU, so it's a moot point as far as the run is concerned anyway...

He.. that.... um... ... Nevertheless, beating the Koopa Kids is a mandatory task, so.. yeah. ^_^;

I've picked up this game again. I would like to write a walkthrough on this game, but I'm afraid no one will accept it. There are a couple other interesting and difficult level-only hacks: SMB3 Challenge and Frank's SMB3 Hack (both at Acmlm's site). I doubt TAS would be accepted here for those hacks since, with user-friendly SMB3 hacking programs floating around, anyone can make a level-only hack. In any hack, Chain Chomps and infinite flying Cheep-Cheeps are annoying.

Looks nice, I like your creative shortcuts throughout the second world. At first I wondered why you took that hit fighting that one Boom-Boom, but I see with the positioning of the platform it allowed you to hit it immediately. Nice.

Why not reset after killing the koopa kid? Surely the following scenes waste time.

That may or may not work. It depends on when the game 'tags' the world as being completed. When Mario grabs the wand? When the King starts talking? When the Princess's letter appears? Some testing should tell us. Remember: The Key didn't register in the inventory until it stopped flashing on the screen, like any other item aquired in a level. Depending on when the game tags the world as complete it may not save much time, considering that you'll have to go through the title screen, and while that isn't a lot of time lost, it might negate any that was saved.

Call me old fashioned but I'm not really into resetting to get a faster time if its purpose is just to skip some cutscenes. I did the entire World 3 during the weekend in a single session and as I was playing the last level, FCEU crashed and, naturally, I lost everything I had made that morning. I guess I can't really blame anyone but myself for not making backups. Yesterday my computer self-destructed so you won't be seeing any progress for a while. I might be able to fix the computer problem during the week but if I'm unlucky (and lazy) it might take even a couple of weeks.

Weird, usually when FCEU crashes on me (which is a lot), i just recall my last saved state and it brings back my movie up to that. Thats too bad though, i would like to see world 3. Good luck on your next try!

Worlds 1-3 and stage 4-1. Next time I'll try to remember to put some savestates with the movie file too. There are a lot of stupid mistakes in there I just didn't feel like correcting, such as getting the fireflower in the self-scrolling level. I didn't realize until later that it stops the scrolling for a second (duh). The movie is already so riddled with mistakes that I don't have the energy to go back and redo a level just because of some minor error. Hope you enjoy it anyways.

It looks good. You said yourself earlier that you didn't intend on submitting this particular version, so don't sweat the small errors. I can't see any problems with your actual routes, so that's all good. Man World 3 has the easiest key to find in the whole game, though. One question, near the end of World 3 you takes another short-cut by going through the corner of a wall, in the process you're hit by a Koopa Troopa. Could you have killed the Troopa with a Magic Blast, or would that have been impossible?

Not right before entering the wall, because you cannot shoot while ducking, and I don't think it's possible to fire earlier either, because at P-speed mario is faster than the bullets, which means Mario would hit the koopa before the bullet. And you can't fire or use the tail while inside the wall either.

Actually, World 7 has the easiest key to find, if you insist on whistling in every world just to see what happens. It's the only key I found without looking at the hint first. It is possible to get the World 6 key while big. Yes, that means squeezing through the one-block-high tunnel! It takes some patience, and it has to be snowing.

Worlds 1-4 + levels 5-1 and 5-2. Still no savestates, sorry. Dehacked's microstorage doesn't seem to accept them. Anyway, I was pretty sloppy here, and I'm noticing myself getting lazier and lazier. I realized at the boss that I didn't have a fireflower and that I would have to redo the whole stage to get one, so I decided to just let it go. EDIT: Oh, and the level where you have to collect the coins was a disaster, a feather would have sped it up immensely.
