I'm recently experiencing a lot of boredom in optimizing Crash for GBA. TASing new levels was very exciting, but now that I am getting back at levels that I thought were already perfectly optimized, and discover that they're not, it's really frustrating, and thus TASing has become more like a job from my point of view. I really don't want this to happen, because it completely kills the main (but not only) purpose that makes me to TAS, which is to have fun.
What do you think about it? Is TASing a serious business for you or you only to it for fun? Also, what do you suggest me to do in order to make working on this run more enjoyable?
Edit: basically, my problem is that I want to both have fun and to optimize seriously my run.
You have to find a balance between wanting an optimal TAS... and your sanity. Getting burned out from TASing and giving up, is ultimately worse than finishing a TAS knowing there's still a few suboptimal parts left.
Also, if you ever TAS for anything else than fun, it's time to stop.
Current project: Gex 3 any%
Paused: Gex 64 any%
There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.
i think you should just finish it as long as it's acceptable quality, submit if you want to and reTAS it again later, finishing the TAS will give good info for the next run also
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto.
TAS i'm interested:
Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS?
i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.
Yeah, I understand that. I should really take it easier.
Oh no way! I would rather make all my Crash TASing knowledge public instead of submitting a run that I'm aware to be suboptimal; maybe I could make exception for very very hard optimizations tough.
By the way, I'll write about all the tricks I've discovered in the submission text, when the time will come.
There have definitely been cases where I abandoned games because it felt like frustrating work. The most serious case probably being Kirby Super Star. In other cases I simply lost all interest and started working on something else, which seems to be a common trait of mine..
If it's not enjoyable, don't do it.
