I second that!
Many times in the middle of levels, it fades to this black computer screen and back. These constant interruptions basically kill the pacing of the run. I don't think that's star material.

Ratings are surprisingly good. Will check this in a few days (after 4 years).

I want to bring attention to this run that has been recently accepted: [3415] SNES Donkey Kong Country "101%" by Tompa in 41:18.37
In my opinion, it has all the requirements for getting into the Stars tier: game quality and notoriety, goal choice, run lenght, optimization... And it's not just me, other people suggested it in the relative submission thread.
Edit: also note that this run took 10 years to be made.
#5730: The8bitbeast's PSX Crash Bandicoot: Warped "105%" in 1:54:18.52. Right now, it is currently being published in Moons.
Crash Bandicoot: Warped is one of the most popular games for PSX of all times, and the branch of this run features very extensive optimization and huge entertaining value.
I would like to nominate http://tasvideos.org/3553M.html Zook Man ZX4 for the Stars tier. It shows every example of impressive gameplay you could ask for. Fast pace, entertaining and abundant glitches, and complete abuse. I honestly didn't see any part of the run that was unimpressive or unentertaining. The amount of work and effort put into this by ThunderAxe and FatRatKnight after DTC6 was over is tremendous, and of course the fact that it was part of a contest originally means a lot of effort on many parties was put into it to begin with. I think it truly deserves to be seen as an example of what TASVideos is capable of.

I'm having very little time lately to evaluate the suggestions. Probably I need to start looking for a successor.

I was told to post here to recommend the new 007: Nightfire TAS to be on the list of movies recommended for newcomers. The old TAS, published in 2013, was really good for its time considering the clipping glitch was still new. But as the years went on, it became more and more obsolete due to new glitches being found and better optimizations being worked on. There were a few speedrunners who actually beat the old TAS due to all the new tricks that had been found since 2013, and that's including the TAS' highly inaccurate load times.
The current published 007: Nightfire TAS is almost 10 minutes faster than the previous one when comparing the gameplay only. Newer builds of Dolphin have more accurate loading times. The old TAS was recommended for newcomers so I think it would be a good idea to also recommend the new one since it's a much more optimized run.
Current TAS: GC 007: Nightfire (USA) in 33:42.82 by FitterSpace, gamerfreak5665 & aleckermit.
Old TAS: GC 007: Nightfire (USA) in 39:55.45 by gamerfreak5665 & aleckermit.

S3K has the same branch starred. That run only got a single vote during its year of existence. Even if it's more optimal, it's clearly less attractive for some weird reason.
SNES DKC2 is starred. How many people want its star to be moved over?
http://tasvideos.org/Movies-Group25-RatingE.html
The 2 best rated runs are very recent and have low amount of votes. I want to give some Crash game a star, but I need more people to vote (or post here) first.
http://tasvideos.org/Movies-Moons-Stars-GBA-Group21-RatingE.html
The situation is mostly the same as with Crash, just here one run is very recent, and another one is being published. Some GBA Mega Man game might have a star, and I'd like to know how well Zook stands compared to official candidates.
RE4 will follow soon.
And it's finally starred. Sorry for taking 4.5 years.

Now that there are 100 starred movies, I think that 100 should be a hard cap. For every new star added, relegate one of the old stars down to moons. Some movies can't hold up as star quality after 5-10 years pass. Many of the ratings are dated to the time period when the movies were made. And 9 out of the 100 starred movies have a rating that starts with a 7.
I honestly think the Crash 2 run should be starred instead of Crash 3. For one it's shorter, and does not beat the same level twice which bored me personally.

Arc the limit has always been 10% of Moons. Right now it's 100 x 1117. We have 10 vacant places.

It doesn't have to be that way, though. Every starred movie should be kino (absolute highest quality) according to today's standards, rather than something that helped fill a quota.
I'll do it.

I agree about the level, but it's not like we were simply filling in space. Lowest entertainment ratings might get dropped if we need vacant places, but I'd rather not drop just because they are outdated, but rather because they are not that entertaining in the end.
And 10% of Moons is the best quota we might have, having hard coded number isn't wise.

My friends, I never advocated removing a star solely because of the movie's age. And if I were a starman, of course I would post my thoughts about adding or removing stars and open it up for discussion before taking action.

Is it not true that SOME movies do not hold up as well today because of advancements in tools, scripts, and game knowledge, in addition to potential changes of taste in entertainment? Older movies should be examined from a modern perspective to see if they are still worthy of the star designation. Is that a controversial statement? Relatively newer movies should be subject to the same auditing process, too (e.g., a movie may not be star-worthy anymore if real-time runners found a method that's faster). It's about ensuring that all of the stars are the highest quality entertainment for someone watching today, in the current year. We want to avoid staleness. And I feel that before we expand beyond 100 stars, we should make sure that we have at least 100 movies that are unquestionably star-worthy, necessitating further growth of the stars.

I feel those that don't hold up in terms of entertainment sure should be demoted for sure, but those that are just dated should be a motivator for people to attempt to obsolete them. It appears that somehow the motivation isn't there though which is kind of depressing.
[16:36:31] <Mothrayas> I have to say this argument about robot drug usage is a lot more fun than whatever else we have been doing in the past two+ hours
[16:08:10] <BenLubar> a TAS is just the limit of a segmented speedrun as the segment length approaches zero
Here's my audit. In an ideal world, there would be 100 stars that are kino or cinema (because people would debate whether some cinema TASes are actually kino). But today the focus is on whether the lowest-tier joints (13, by my count) deserve their stars. The list is what I think is the consensus view, not my personal favorites. The parentheses after the TASes are (publication year) and (entertainment rating).

I'm not saying that all joints must go back to moons, but they might not be star-worthy. I think that they need to justify their stars. But it's a discussion, and perhaps something that I consider a joint is really a flick. At least one of these criticisms applies to each joint: (1) it was starred solely for system diversity, (2) it got an NES bonus (21% of stars are NES), or (3) there were low expectations of a decent game and so it got an overreaction star.
Now let's contrast with some TASes that aren't starred but could be. I wouldn't star all of these (just some of them), but I think that a lot of them are better than some of the current joints:
1. N64 Super Mario 64 (USA) "70 stars, no BLJ" by 16 People in 42:58.52 (2012) (9.5) - It has the 3rd-highest entertainment rating of all TASes. Absolute kinography. There should be an exception to the 2-star limit rule if all 3 TASes are kino.
2. SNES Super Mario World (USA) "arbitrary code execution" by Masterjun in 02:25.19 (2014) (9.2) - Evidently good enough for AGDQ but not a star because of diversity.
3. Arcade Metal Slug 3 (World) by zk547 in 24:27.8 (2017) (9.1) - Metal Slug X has a star with an 8.4. That star could transfer to this TAS, if not a star for both.
4. DS Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (USA) "all souls" by Kriole in 35:08.59 (2012) (9.1) - Only 4 Castlevanias have a star and 2 are rated lower than this DS game.
5. FDS Super Mario Bros. 2 (JPN) by HappyLee in 08:04.83 (2017) (9.0) - It's classic Mario with a 9 rating.
6. N64 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (JPN v1.0) "All Dungeons, Temples & Ganon Trials" by homerfunky in 1:42:29.53 (2017) (8.9) - There is no OoT star.
7. SNES Metroid Super ZeroMission (v2.3) "100%" by Hoandjzj in 1:19:30.64 (2013) (8.8) - Super Metroid hack kino.
8. DS Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (USA) "Richter mode" by mtbRc in 16:57.28 (2017) (8.8) - Another worthy DS Castlevania.
9. GBA Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (USA) "all furniture, best ending" by hellagels in 13:45.57 (2017) (8.7) - There's no star for this Castlevania either. Replace Super Castlevania IV if "too much Castlevania" is a problem.
10. NES Super Mario Bros. 3 (USA PRG0) "100%" by Lord Tom & Tompa in 1:04:36.9 (2015) (8.7) - Another run snubbed for diversity.
11. Wii Mega Man 10 (USA) "Mega Man" by diggidoyo in 33:42.37 (2011) (8.6) - Not that more MM is needed, but this 'system diversity' entry is above the MM flicks.
12. NES Super Mario Bros. (JPN/USA PRG0) "warps" by HappyLee in 04:57.31 (2011) (8.6) - The real SMB branch. Higher rated than the walkathon.
13. NES Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (USA) "warpless" by Arc, FatRatKnight, Inzult & Rising Tempest in 45:26.04 (2016) (8.5) - There are 3 Zelda II TASes, all 8.4+ rated (top 100), yet none starred. FRK's solution to get 2 fairies in the Valley of Death is a shining example of achieving the impossible.
14. Arcade Final Fight (World) by £e Nécroyeur in 13:31.15 (2016) (8.5) - Brought up earlier but still it's one of the highest-rated Arcade games.
15. NES Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (USA PRG1) by McHazard in 17:39.45 (2013) (8.4) - Undeniably one of the NES classics. Good sport TASes are rare.
16. NES The Battle of Olympus (USA) by Arc & nesrocks in 09:55.37 (2017) (8.3) - Impossible hyperspeed maneuvering and luck manipulation.
17. Genesis Streets of Rage 2 (USA) by Sonikkustar in 22:58.57 (2012) (8.2) - This debate happened earlier but I don't know how SoR3 beat 2.
18. GC Crazy Taxi (USA) in 06:02.76 by solarplex (2014) (8.2) - Zany driving.

I do not agree with removing Warcraft II from Stars. It's our only starred RTS TAS, and in my opinion is a perfect example of RTS TASing, with AI mockery and playaround.

And people were asking for it.
Also, it's interesting how STAR KINO almost matches http://tasvideos.org/NewcomerCorner.html
EDIT:
Are you saying diversity is a bad requirement?
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.
That's hardly surprising. Regardless of how often people say that it's not (or not supposed to be), the Newcomers tag is effectively the tier above star tier.
Are you saying diversity is a bad requirement?
Personally I think diversity is good, and that all game platforms and genres should ideally be represented among Star tier (as well as Newcomers category) (by 'ideally' I do of course mean that a quality movie must exist). Arc suggests that the NES is overrepresented; I'd like to suggest that the Mario franchise and the Platformer genre are similarly overrepresented. Yes, I get that they're among the most famous of video games ever; I'd just prefer greater variety in the top tier.
As Warepire states, we really should not un-star Warcraft. It's from an underrepresented genre and platform, in addition to being an excellent run.
