I'm using that version. The error is "96: attempt to index global 'emu' (a nil value)" I tried changing emu to snes9x. It got rid of the error message, but nothing was happening. Maybe the emulator settings are hiding what the script is putting on the screen...

Well, it runs fine for me in 1.43 and 1.51. Maybe you should post about this problem on the snes9x section.

I'll try that. Thanks for your help. Also, to daylanb, I looked at your posts on Starman.net, and I think that your idea is very interesting. Do you skip the Starman Junior fight at the beginning of the game?

I don't know why Daylan hasn't posted here yet but we finished the run on console, credits and everything. I don't skip Starman Jr., I fight him as Paula and Poo! We found out how to get Poo out, only a couple things have to be skipped but after Gigyas we can walk to Ness' house as Paula and watch the credits. The Jeff method can't reach the credits since the Threed zombies are in the way.

I took the Threed tent smv and did some testing with it. I saved the game in Threed for testing purposes, and when I arrived at the tent glitch spot, it gave me the debug menu first try! But an improvement is an improvement, and it can only get better from here. I'm going to polish the run and submit is soon.

I would like to have this dialogue appear, anywhere except in Ness' house. This is the last dialogue of Ness' mother before the credits start. I want to see if the game can be tricked into playing the credits after that dialogue appears.

Is there a lua script someone has made for this game? I'm curious if there was one made for determining which frame has critical hits, successful escape from battle, what 'prayer' outcome you'll get....etc... has been done.

Yes, this page covers the lua script created by pirohiko. Make sure to edit lines 64/65 according to what version you use (J or U). It's been a long time since I used the script, so I can't even explain how to use it but it's better than nothing - I wasn't able to use it to determine critical hits, unfortunately. Not sure how pirohiko pulls off critical hits and other things when TASing.

Hi, I've been sifting through all the collected info I can about Earthbound TASing. I will say briefly that I am a huge fan of breaking games in a non-physical sense, but I myself have never made a TAS of my own nor do I have any plans to do so. That said, since this game's release on the Wii U's eShop, I have set myself a simple goal of posting a screenshot to the miiverse of being in Magicant at the lowest level possible with Ness. Naturally, this is all done on the Wii U, so no emulator tools - with the exception of a single save state I can use to at least do some modicum of luck manipulation. - With no trickery, and minimal strain (i.e. beating Titanic Ant at level 8 so I have PK Rockin for the fight) I can reach Paula by level 12. Not good enough. - If I really want to strain myself on that single save state (which is also painfully slow to open the menu, reload, close menu, etc.) I could do level 11. Not good enough. - With the skip Twoson trick, I could leave Ness at level 9 (I think?). Thats getting there, but... I want to go deeper. I want to do level 1. I have skipped Starman Jr, so I am free to roam Onett at level 1. I've successfully performed the trick where one uses a skip sandwich to pass through cliffs. In fact, if anyone was interested in knowing - I managed to trigger that debug menu nonsense in Onett's corner on the Wii U version. Of course on that note I don't know what I am doing whatsoever. Well, I have no idea how the menu works, but I suspect you may have watched this run: http://tasvideos.org/1946M.html Anyway, if you want to know about how to access the menu, you have to talk to Pirohiko or Mugg. They know about it. I do want to say that I think the chances for being able to pull it off are low, the Debugu menu likely requires frame precision, which you don't have in real-time. Still, talk to Pirohiko or Mugg.

Yeah thats what I figured. I appreciate the response though. I managed Magicant at level 9 non-TAS (or rather, single tool-assisted? after all I did have the aid of a single save state... maybe we can simply say 'on the WiiU release') so that will do for now until I can figure out a way to break Onett.

RTA? Sick Japanese runners never cease to amaze Also, since that RTA was done on Japanese, is there now a reliable way to achieve the ending on the Japanese version? If you still have our WIP done on the Japanese version, maybe we can complete a TAS on that version with little effort.

Earthbound runners seem to have stumbled upon a new bug. In Twoson bottom, lltemple walked around gathering enemy spawns. Then I didn't pay attention but apparently he touched the spawns and a battle started and it said "You encounter ." and the game froze. It was said there might be a slim chance of glitching the text pointer and e.g. bring up the debug menu. Maybe it's doable in Onett at night. There was a bunch of people that said they have gotten the debug menu but by using a cheat to make text run infinitely. Not sure if there is a chance of getting it without the cheat, but it seems worth looking into. Video might come later.

Hello everyone, what would be a good way to grind all the characters in the game? I know several points in the game there characters who under leveled (especially Jeff and Paula) and the enemies tend to target the weaker characters. What should I do? What would be a good way to grind?

In Dusty Dunes desert there is enemy called Criminal Caterpillar, and in Scaraba there is Master Criminal Worm. Those appear very rarely and I think they will run from you but if you defeat one in battle you get a ton of exp. http://starmen.net/mother2/guides/scarabatrick/

So, apparently, speedrunners have come up with some crazy new categories thanks to OoB glitches. Here are YouTube videos I've found involving those categories: Link to video This is a run that beats the game without Ness in the party, Game Theory reference notwithstanding. Link to video This is a run that manages to keep Ness in his pajamas throughout the entire game. I'm not sure if TASes of these categories would be publication-worthy, suggestion for a "special goals" tag be damned. EDIT: I forgot to mention that there's also a category where the runner gets all of the photos. Keep in mind that runs in that category also use OoB glitches.
