Sorry for triple posting, just wanted to point out I uploaded this yesterday for any confused minds wondering why a 0 keys TAS isn't doable at the moment: Link to video Also, for anyone interested there is a new SM64 TAS competition that has recently began and there's still plenty of time to enter task 1! Check that out here: https://youtu.be/hziLcFYPpF0

I noticed that the 120 TAS collects the 100 coin star closer to the redcoin star than the newer TASes do. Is that something that could be improved or would it be slower overall to get the closer position?
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

The SM64 Shindou Edition can also be used for "BLJ-less". I advise against using the PAL version due to it being barely slower. The screen transitions and cutscenes are slower by 16.67% on PAL. Some (but not all) speed tweaks have to be applied for conversion. For example: Mario's normal running speed is about 32 units per frame in NTSC, it would've been tweaked to make him go approximately 38 units per frame in PAL. Maxed out coin record TASes can take a while. Do the cork box glitch in Bob-omb Battlefield, Whomp's Fortress and Shifting Sand Land, the moneybag glitch in Snowman's Land, the piranha plant glitch in Tiny-Huge island, and coin cloning in Dire Dire Docks, Wet-Dry World, Tall, Tall Mountain, Tick-Tock Clock, and Rainbow Ride. No infinite coin glitches exist in Jolly Roger Bay, Cool, Cool Mountain, Big Boo's Haunt, Hazy Maze Cave, and Lethal Land. You'll end up with the maxed out coin records and 16 stars. There are 18 coins in Bob-omb Battlefield that can only be gotten with the cannon. You need to complete Star 1 in Big Boo's Haunt to do Star 2, and 12 stars needed to enter. Route: SSL, LLL, HMC, BLJ to BitFS, DDD, WDW, THI, TTM, SL, BoB, CCM, JRB, WF, BBH, TTC, RR, BLJ to BitS. Can the "1 key" run be done in the US version?

Yes. Slower thanks to Peach. As explained in the submission text.

There's a specific version of mupen that replicates a bug seen in the Wii Virtual Console version that allows Bowser in the Fire Sea to be completed with 0x A presses. Has anyone been able to do the alleged upwarp in Tick Tock Clock? Pannen is waiting for you to do so for $1000.

I'm trying to make a TAS of super mario 64 but I'm having trouble skipping past lakitu because I keep losing speed. I have a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuI8vP6X-bM&feature=youtu.be

I don't have enough knowledge to tell you what's wrong but it looks like you are playing the shindou version of the game am I right ? I know this is the worst version possible to run the game, so if I'm right, if you should switch immediatly
"Lol as far as I'm aware no distinguished TASer gives a f*ck what's accepted. I certainly don't like Bizhawk but I'm glad to hear at least some TASers are picking up the better emulator" a distinguished TASer Working on: -OoT No RBA/WW -Zapper 100% _______________________________________ Follow me on http://www.twitch.tv/amateseru :)

Can't all the tases that aren't 120 and 0 stars use the 1 key strat to optimize it more? It is faster than doing the bowser fight, right?

70 star bans BLJ as part of its category definition, so not there. 16 star bans just side BLJs, but I think that's already enough to make it so you don't want to use the 1 key strat? I think 1 star only exists as a real time category (to give any% players something more consistent than 0 star) so it doesn't make sense to TAS it in the first place.

On Bob-omb Battlefield on the part where there are those rolling balls go there with really low health, go near the cannon and line yourself right to kill yourself on the rolling ball and be pushed inside of the cannon while dead, you're now dead inside of a cannon, when you touch the ground you die instantly, if you shoot to a star you just pass right through it, you can go cannon to cannon, the coins don't give you any health and the HP will always be on the screen. Is this new?

It was new in like 1996 I guess. :) I definitely did that, too! It, uh, has absolutely no benefit for a TAS though.

This glitch exists in the DS version too, and it's that version where you can collect stars even if you're dead. Also, getting a star then landing on the death barrier skips the 100-coin star dialog in the DS version. This isn't viable for speedrunning in general.

On DDD if you get a coin for the 100th coin while grabbing the moving pole, and grab the 100 coins star while still grabbing on the pole, you will downwarp to the bottom of the water and when you exit the text you will upwarp to the top of the water. Not useful and probably already known.

nice discovery Th3Re4l! I did not know about it. Maybe it can be used?

If you like bonk on the DW moving platforms and wallkick while the moving platforms make you like switch facing left and right directions for some reason, if you wallkick while on the direction of the moving platforms (left) you will wallkick to the moving platforms instead of the opposite direction. Edit: This can actually be done in a moving platform that does that facing left and right switch.

Apparently there's a couple of people TASing ABC stars for a possible 70-star 1xA route. Iwer Sonsch and fifdspence have been posting some videos, this is their latest one: Link to video

Correction: this is for the upcoming 70 Star 0xA TAS. BitFS 0x on N64 has been in development for the last year or so.

Oh right, I remember Tyler Kehne did a video on a potential strategy using squish cancel and a bully push. Has there been more progress on that?

With the release of the game's source code and a PC port, can any improvements be done?

The best ABC Trials score just got lowered to 3. Are we going to get to 0 by the end of the competition? EDIT: Well, that was fast...
