Right now, this is the information given at the beginning of the movies:
beginning of each movie wrote:
The homepage of this emulator movie: http://tasvideos.org/ Check there for updates and information. Recorded by Bisqwit [name of game] timeattack Played by [name of player] Play length [length of fmv] Rerecord count: [number of rerecords] Created with Family Emulator "Famtasia" Ver5.1
Some people have complained that the videos are being passed off as legit, or that not enough is being done to let the viewers know how the videos are made. Some people are too lazy to go to the link given in the video, and don't know what an emulator is, and are tricked into thinking the videos are legit. Someone at the GameFAQs LoZ forums suggested a disclaimer that says "This gameplay video is fake and was made using the Famtasia emulator which allows us to savestate every half second so this video appears to be run perfectly by an expert gamer, but it is infact fake so don't get your hopes up. Enjoy!". However, for obvious reasons Bisqwit will never put something like that in the movies. Here was Bisqwit's response about the subject in a reply to an email I sent him:
Bisqwit wrote:
I have provided a website address. I have mentioned "emulator" twice. The screen says "rerecorded". I have wrote "check the website for information". If this is not enough for ignorant people, that's their problem. I will not put text like "this movie is fake". The movies are meant for entertainment, and any text that will decrease their entertainment value will be bad for the movie. Text that is honest and correct is ok, but it must not give a loathable perception. Also, I don't want to waste the screen space with excess subtitles. I don't want to embed long trailers / footers either. If you are still interested in helping the gamers, you can create a topic on the nesvideos forum to start a plan for a short footer to include in the movies to address this problem.
In this topic, discuss what information should be included at the beginning of the movies and give suggestions for a short footer to be included in the movies.

simply saying "this video was created for entertainment and is not legitamate record" should silence the critics. I don't think mentioning the word emulator is enough because you can do no-save speedruns on them.

I thought the Famtasia into screen that Bisqwit used to do was enough. If people are too dumb to figure out what that means then who really cares.

I think that's enough information. There's a link to the site where a very detailed explanation is available. It says an emulator was used and even shows how many re-records it took. People are going to yell "cheater" no matter what steps we take to explain ourselves. Hell, several posters lately have come to the forum, knowing full well what we do and how we do it, and still chose to attack us. Fuck 'em. We're not trying to prove anything here, we're just trying to entertain.

The current method of recording the movie does not allow the Famtasia dialog screen anymore. ] What do you think about this?

I don't think the re-record count is necessary. As long as people know they were used, who cares how many were used? Many people think that more re-records mean less gameplaying skill, but the two are totally unrelated, and including the re-recording count will turn the "wow, that was so entertaining" discussions into the "wow, he really sucks because he needed to use 2156 re-records" discussions. Edit: I also don't think you should use the word timeattack.

Some people want to see it, and I don't see a problem with showing it. In fact I think often a big rerecord count is a sign of a refined movie with lots of things that are practically impossible in real playing (luck, pixel/frame precision tricks).

By all means, throw a better suggestion.

Yeah it looks good and not too big. Much useful info in a small "window". However, this might just be for me, but I would like to have my name still there. Else someone can just claim they did the movie and I don´t like that thought. But it might just be me?

In your Kage no densetsu movie you have "Played by Walker Boh": Same in Cobra Triangle. In Wizards & Warriors you have the same nick, different wording. And so on. If you want some other text in next movie encodings, please email me your wishes. But let's keep this discussion in the topic. I am asking for feedback on the text in the second screenshot.

Yeah it looks good. But to me it looked like you replaced the names, time and length by that information window. That´s why I mentioned it. And im totally satisfied with my movies (your subtitles).

How about "emulator assisted superhuman gameplaying demo, usable for entertainment and education".

Sounds too complex, and the player isn't a superhuman :)

I'd prefer a disclaimer before the game starts. It takes up too much space from the game as it is now methinks...

and the player isn't a superhuman But the gameplaying is. How about "emulator enhanced speed run created for your entertainment". Edit: If you want something simpler, how about "tool assisted entertainment demo".

This is what the intro screen says currently. I don't think it needs something to add... You're right, the long disclaimer takes up too much space.

I was thinking of something along this line...

Maybe you can put it after that one?

This is what the intro screen says currently. I don't have any problems with that, but apparently some people are too stupid to know what an emulator is (despite emulate being an actual English word) AND are too lazy to go to the link. However, it's still important that these people don't think the videos are legit, and more important that people stop bugging and complaining to us.

I prefer the term "emu-movie" or "emulator movie" instead of "timeattack". I also don't think it would hurt to put a disclaimer text on the movies' intro screen that says something like: "DISCLAIMER: This is an emulator-assisted movie".

How about one disclaimer before the game starts that says: Tool assisted entertainment demo created using NES emulator Famtasia Super Mario Bros. Speed Run by Michael Fried Play Length 5:03.73 This video is not a legitimate record Check here for information and updates: http://tasvideos.org/

"DISCLAIMER: This is an emulator-assisted movie" Then people will say it's cheated, it needs to say that it was made for entertainment.

Yeah, looks great. Except it could be bothersome to change the game specific text for each game. It would be easier if you could put that on its own "page".

{60}{180}Super Mario Bros|Perfect time by Michael Fried|Play length 0:05:03.73|Rerecord count: 2156
{192}{252}This is a tool-assisted recording for entertainment purposes. Details: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/jutut/nesvideos/

Is that in addition to or instead of the current intro screen? Edit: Instead of just saying Details:, I think it would be better if you said Check here for information and updates.

People could interpret this as video editing - many people unfamiliar with the why/how already think this way.

Intro is there always.
