Very soon, both runs will be up in the submission queue! I'm not sure how to do with the submitting part though. Hotarubi, the one who I've done most parts of the runs, haven't been heard of in a long while - not been at YouTube for 2 months. And since he's not a member of this site I can't add him as a co-author, which he has done more than enough to deserve. If someone know him better than me, you can inform him that the runs are about done and that he must register here. Or if not, could I submit it as my own run at first and then, if he joins later, he could be added as a co-author?

I'm not sure if I'm the first one to find this glitch, but if you make a savestate at the beginning of Level 1, then beat the level, load the savestate when you're on the world map, the level will graphically glitch. Even though the level is still playable and this is not a timesaver, this might be a fun glitch to perform if one tries a playaround TAS of this game. I tested this on FCEUX 2.0.1 and 2.1.4. Both versions handled the glitch differently. Rom used was the (E) version.

That's not a game glitch, but an emulation or a ROM glitch.

This was found pretty recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--zp_PHhfD0 The glitch allows Yumetaro to enter ceilings and then start getting zipped inside, usually to the right. The room warp shown in the video is the only known major application of the glitch thus far, though there are some minor speed boosts you can do by jumping into ceilings in various rooms. I tested every ceiling/wall corner I could access in stages 5-7 and I couldn't find other beneficial warps. Perhaps there is a way to trigger the glitch earlier in the game. I don't think the underlying reason why the glitch is triggered when bombing the bird boss's shell is known. Just wanted to bring this to the attention of the TAS community in case Aglar or someone else wants to investigate.

Link to video Not finalized at all, but shows off the two huge timesavers.

Oh God.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Link to video If you're attentive, you can see literally 2 frames of the room I wanted to get into. I suppose I should give a progress report with this. I'm trying to at least get up through the end of the game as a test. Once I finish that, I'll go back through everything in S6 and optimize it to the best of my ability. Due to the zip glitch being active (it literally never goes away, even if you die) and the huge skips in S5 and S6 removing power-up routing ability, there are going to be some seconds lost compared to the published run in the common rooms/fights. I'm estimating the final time to be around 4:25.

For the sake of it: http://becored.hatenablog.com/entry/2016/01/23/180603 The original vid also has some insights from Cyghfer in comments.

User movie #31856721249827104 Stage 6 is still very, very rough, especially the final boss, but at the very least this is a complete test run. The entirety of Stage 6 is one huge improvement and then a ton of small time losses due to the glitch and the inability to plan out power-ups in advance. I'll give the rest of the stage another look over, if I can't find anything substantial I'll at least re-do the final rooms before possibly submitting. EDIT: 128 frames shaved off of the final boss so far using a slight variation on the strategy from the previously published run (which doesn't work because of RNG, naturally). Trying to push it down further, but I get the feeling I'm not going to be able to do much more. EDIT2: Saved another frame, run has been submitted. Woo.

So should we expect a sub-4:00 submission for the game next time around from this? :P

More like a sub-1:30. Actually, I am quite surprised that minor death warp was posted but not this total control exploit which is in the same channel.

I only posted what I saw on my twitter feed because I felt it was relevant. ACE would probably warrant a new branch.

It can't be submitted, because none of our NES amulators supports subframe input movies.

How did they make that video then? I thought that lsnes was the only emulator that could do subframe stuff right now

Lua script running in fceux, feeding it all the input the same CPU tick it asks for it. Regular movies wait for frame end, movies like this one feed input at insane rates each frame.
