I want to make a thread that gathers currently published TASes of games that are slower compared to RTA world records. This could be useful for those who want to update outdated tases and the such. Also, if a specific reason can be provided as to why these movies are slower, it would be helpful to know. NOTE: this thread will not count movies that don't use faster strats if they are still faster than the world record, only for movies that are slower than the RTA world record. Here's list so far: [318] SNES Kirby Super Star by nitsuja in 41:56.17 7 minutes slower than RTA WR https://www.speedrun.com/kss#Any [1851] N64 The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask by MrGrunz in 1:29:32.02 due to outdated tricks and routes. RTA WR. (NOTE: WR was done on WiiVC, so timing or some tricks may not work on original N64) [2076] GB The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening by Bobmario511 in 03:48.55 can be improve with ACE, WR [2180] NES Who Framed Roger Rabbit by tool23 in 05:08.28 due to a slower route. RTA WR [419] SNES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time "1 player" by nitsuja in 18:55.00 a wrong warp using a 2nd player can skip stage 4 and go directly to shredder. [2373] NES The California Raisins: The Grape Escape by MESHUGGAH in 04:51.50 faster route in the first level. WR [2717] NES Silent Assault by MESHUGGAH in 05:26.91 a death warp in the 3rd stage will skip the entirety of the level. WR

Good idea! Even more, i think it is even worth creating new movie flag to mark all such outdated movies. May use turtle shell from Mario as icon:
I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Current projects: NES: Tetris "fastest 999999" (improvement, with r57shell) Genesis: Adventures of Batman & Robin (with Truncated); Pocahontas; Comix Zone (improvement); Mickey Mania (improvement); RoboCop versus The Terminator (improvement); Gargoyles (with feos)

I'm pointing out those that haven't been obsoleted by RTA but methods have also just improved over the TAS on Single Stages for example. By extension, methods found that haven't been implemented (which hasn't been obsoleted by RTA) is included here. Game's Broken. (Person working on it stalled/disappeared.) [808] N64 Gex 64: Enter the Gecko by Mukki in 49:59.93 [1237] N64 Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko by Mukki in 54:16.25 New Methods. [2051] PSX Croc: Legend of the Gobbos "100%" by RingRush in 1:18:35.43 (Duping is banned for TASing from what the author chose in what's best in entertainment.) [1523] PSX Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! "14 talismans" by lapogne36 in 28:11.70 (Proxies. Requires time to work on and a lot of routing and management.) [1862] PSX Spyro The Dragon by lapogne36 in 41:38.30 (Person working on it disappeared. Hidden Proxies. Requires time to work on and a lot of routing and management.) [3072] PSX Bubsy 3D by solarplex in 22:50.32 [1462] GBC The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX by SwordlessLink in 1:00:02.68 [2628] GBC The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX "warp glitch" by Bobmario511 in 05:39.06 A submission showed it was suboptimal, which was rejected due to bios. [1876] PSX Resident Evil "Jill" by arukAdo & Uroboros in 57:42.62 Framerules [1715] NES Super Mario Bros. "warps" by HappyLee in 04:57.31 Clean up on isle input. [1498] DS Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars "save glitch" by jlun2 in 03:42.93 (Cleaner Driving Lines. Luck manipulation to get rid of cars. jlun2 tried initially, but splicing input on DS isn't fun.) [2076] GB The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening by Bobmario511 in 03:48.55 [2709] PSX Samurai Shodown II by NhatNM in 17:10.02 (Sloppy) [2540] PSX Guilty Gear by Cooljay & NhatNM in 07:11.58 (Sloppy, Incomplete) --- I know that some of the NES Mega Man games have hidden improvements that have been dabbled on, just not touched/implemented for the latest TASes, first one that comes to mind that has this is Mega Man 2.

Resident Evil 4 TAS is outdatted too. Despite the loadings, new methods and tricks have been discovered.
TASing is like making a film: only the best takes are shown in the final movie.

+1 for making this thread. I've got two PMs about my TAS improvements from RTA runners, Silent Assault death warp trick and California Raisins hidden passage. Already started investigating them. Will make a new post about my finds for other TASes.

[318] SNES Kirby Super Star by nitsuja in 41:56.17 (SB, GR, DB, MKR, GCO, MMW any%) is 7 minutes slower than RTA (GCO, DB, MKR, MMW any%). You could do a 100% all modes TAS in less than 42 minutes probably. AntyMew worked on this game in 2015 but no new run was finished so far.

http://tasvideos.org/1378M.html Crusader of Centy. Even taking the different starting points into account, the RTA run is slightly faster. https://www.speedrun.com/Crusader_of_Centy/run/9mr9l42m

[419] SNES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time "1 player" by nitsuja in 18:55.00 is a minute slower than the current WR. Reason: With a second player, you can perform a "wrong warp" early on stage 4, skipping directly to Shredder (a.k.a boss). Also, the Slash battle is very different on RTA (much faster), since was posted (or discovered) back on 2005, two months after the publication. McHazard was working on this game in 2017 but no new news so far.
My homepage --Currently not much motived for TASing as before...-- But I'm still working.

[3019] SNES Super Mario World "warps" by BrunoVisnadi, Amaraticando in 09:57.10 is slower than the current RTA record for 11-exit by about 12 seconds. The RTA run glitches a cloud into the item box and uses it to glitch out Bowser's AI, but TASVideos rules prohibit that because the glitch can also lead to ACE, and if you can do ACE with a glitch then the only acceptable movies using it are demos and game-end-glitch.

[946] N64 Diddy Kong Racing by xenos in 2:03:02.08 Since this was made, a wrong warp glitch was discovered which greatly reduced the time this takes. As such, this is now way longer than any real-time any% run.

I have found that [2630] Genesis Ecco the Dolphin by Itresad in 20:44.95 has been beaten by RTA due to a new camera glitch skip that allows you to clip more easily in most walls.

About Ecco (original) yeah... I believe if I wasn't mistaken there's actually TASOnly methods in that game that arandomgameTASer swam into.

You must compare the TAS to the 'orb' category of 11 exit speedruns (there is a leaderboard for it in www.speedrun.com/smw). The TAS is ~36 seconds faster.

IIRC both nitsuja and itresad knew about that glitch and deliberately avoided using it as it would render the movie too repetitive to watch.

In this case "Contains speed/entertainment tradeoffs" should be added to them to avoid confusion.

Any reason why RTAs with new techniques are not counted? Especially that the list you have already lists mostly new techniques or at least route change.

Not sure I understand your question. If you mean why I don’t just list new techniques, it’s because it’s specifically for tases that are severally outdated to the point where RTA is faster than the current publication. Granted, I need time to update this list at some point.

I think I misinterpreted your sentence in the OP starting with NOTE. According to your last post, my post with the 2 NES game should count in your list.

My note is basically saying it’s not for games that have known skips that aren’t used in the published tas, but for movies that are so outdated that RTA has surpassed the tas. If a new skip in a game makes it so the RTA world record is faster than the published tas, then it’s included in the list.
